History
India has a rich and diverse history that dates back to one of the world’s first urban civilizations, the Indus Valley civilization. It was followed by the Vedic period, which laid the foundations of Hinduism. India was home to several ancient empires and kingdoms, including the Maurya, Gupta, and Mughal empires. The country was colonized by the British in the 19th century and gained its independence on August 15, 1947.
Geography
India’s geography is as diverse as its culture. It features the towering Himalayan mountain range in the north, fertile plains, desert regions, coastal areas, and tropical rainforests. The country is divided into 28 states and 8 Union territories. India’s major rivers include the Ganges, Yamuna, Brahmaputra, and Godavari.
Politics
India is a federal parliamentary democratic republic. The President is the head of state, while the Prime Minister is the head of government. It has a multi-tiered system of government with powers distributed among the central government and the states. India follows the dual polity system, i.e., federal in nature, that is, the powers are divided between the central government and the states.
Economy
India has a mixed economy, with agriculture, manufacturing, and services sectors contributing significantly to the country’s GDP. It is the world’s sixth-largest economy by nominal GDP and is classified as a newly industrialized country. However, it continues to face challenges like poverty, corruption, malnutrition, and inadequate public healthcare.
