Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson was a Founding Father of the United States, serving as the country’s third president from 1801 to 1809. He was born in Virginia in 1743 and attended the College of William and Mary. Jefferson was a lawyer, farmer, and politician who played a pivotal role in the American Revolution, drafting the Declaration of Independence in 1776. He also served as the governor of Virginia, held diplomatic posts in Europe, and was a member of the Continental Congress. Jefferson was known for his belief in individual rights, religious freedom, and the separation of church and state. He founded the University of Virginia, which he considered one of his greatest achievements. Despite his accomplishments, Jefferson was also a slave owner, and his legacy remains a subject of debate. He died in 1826, leaving behind a lasting impact on American politics and society.
