Organization 10 points
Ideas are logically sequenced with clear transitions between paragraphs. 10 points: Response is well-organized and easy to follow.
Support 10 points
Includes specific examples and details from the text to support ideas. 10 points: Response provides strong textual evidence to back up claims.
Sentence Structure 10 points
Varied sentence structures enhance the flow and clarity of the response. 10 points: Response demonstrates a variety of sentence structures.
Word Choice 10 points
Precise and vivid language is used to convey ideas effectively. 10 points: Response includes rich and appropriate word choices.
Mechanics 5 points
Response is free of major errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling. 5 points: Response demonstrates strong writing mechanics.
Use of Text Evidence 5 points
Effectively integrates at least one piece of quoted textual evidence to support analysis. 5 points: Response includes well-selected and properly cited textual evidence.
