We’ll do it all
Everything
On our own
We don’t need
Anything
Or anyone
If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
I don’t quite know
How to say
How I feel
Those three words
Are said too much
They’re not enough
If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
Forget what we’re told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that’s bursting into life
Let’s waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads
I need your grace
To remind me
To find my own
If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
Forget what we’re told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that’s bursting into life
All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they’re all I can see
I don’t know where
Confused about how as well
Just know that these things will never change for us at all
If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Song Meaning
Meaning 1
Like any good songs, I think the lyrics are open to multiple interpretations, but for me the song reminds me of those beautiful summer evenings getting to know someone, hoping they feel the same way about you, but feeling like you could live in those moments forever. Without question an amazing song, hopefully, a single as well.
Meaning 2
I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself when someone claimed this song was about having a dog. Each to their own, I suppose!
It’s about insecure teenagers being in love.
It’s about being scared to say “I love you” as your parents have told you that every day and you want what you say to mean something.
It’s about being frustrated because of the insecurity (and inexperience) of articulating your feelings. The fear of being misinterpreted, and perhaps, spoiling what is, is too much to risk.
It’s about enjoying the moment with that special person and enjoying their presence without the need to talk. You’re free to imagine happy places with them, and so long as they are next to you, it could even come true.
It’s about growing up and finding things out for yourself – ie making mistakes before you’re too old.
A beautiful song, which sums up the innocence of young, and/or naive love.
