❄️ Let’s Read Together: SNOW by Cynthia Rylant and Lauren Stringer

Hello, my reading friends! I’m Ani, and I’m so happy to have you here with me. Today, we’re going to read a wonderful book called “Snow.” If you have the book, go get it so we can read together!

About the Book

The book “Snow” is written by Cynthia Rylant and illustrated by Lauren Stringer. It’s all about the magical and fun things that happen when it snows.

The Magic of Snow

Snow can be like a quiet friend who visits at night. It waits outside until you see it, bringing a peaceful feeling. Sometimes, snow falls in big, happy flakes when you’re away from home. It might even help you get home early to the place you love the most!

There are different kinds of snow. Some snowflakes fall gently, making trees and lights look extra special. Other times, snow falls so much that it covers cars and makes trees bend. It even makes your pets want to stay cozy inside!

Fun in the Snow

Kids love snow more than anyone else! They put on their red boots and mittens, ready to catch snowflakes on their tongues and roll down snowy hills. Snow loves kids too, giving them snow angels and new friends to play with.

Enjoying Snowy Days

Snow reminds us that special moments don’t last forever, but we can make happy memories. While the snow is here, let’s take a walk and see how beautiful everything looks. Then, we can go back to our warm homes, have a nice drink, and maybe read a book or play a game together.

Snowy Surprises

While the snow falls, the flowers and the sun are resting, waiting for their turn. Now, it’s snow’s time to shine, and we can watch it fall and enjoy the magic it brings.

Stay Warm and Have Fun!

Playing in the snow is so much fun! Just remember to wear warm clothes so you stay cozy and safe.

I hope you loved our snowy story today. Come back next time for more fun stories. See you soon!

  • What is your favorite thing to do when it snows? Can you think of a special memory you have of playing in the snow?
  • How do you think snow changes the way everything looks outside? Have you ever noticed how quiet it gets when it snows?
  • If you could create your own snow day adventure, what would it be like? Who would you want to share it with?
  1. Snowflake Observation: Next time it snows, go outside with an adult and catch some snowflakes on a dark piece of paper or fabric. Look closely at the snowflakes and see if you can spot different shapes and patterns. Can you find two snowflakes that look the same? Talk about what makes each snowflake special and unique.

  2. Snowy Art Project: Create your own snow scene using cotton balls, glue, and colored paper. Use the cotton balls to make snow on trees, houses, and even snowmen. Think about how the snow changes the way things look and try to show that in your artwork. Share your snowy picture with your family and tell them about the different kinds of snow you learned about.

  3. Snow Story Time: Imagine you are a snowflake on a journey from the sky to the ground. Write or draw a short story about your adventure. Where do you land? Do you meet any other snowflakes? What fun things do you see happening in the snow? Share your story with a friend or family member and ask them what they would do if they were a snowflake.

The best snow is the snow that comes softly in the night, like a shy friend afraid to knock, so she thinks she’ll just wait in the yard until you see her. This is the snow that brings you peace.

Then there’s the snow that begins to fall in fat, cheerful flakes while you are somewhere you’d rather not be—maybe school, maybe work. This snow tells you as it falls that it will send you home early. Don’t worry; home is where you need to be, and this snow will take you there. It will send you back over slippery white roads to the rooms you love so well, and it will say that it is all right to be happy.

Some snows fall only lightly, just enough to make you notice the delicate limbs of trees, the light falling from the lamppost, a sparrow’s small feet. And some snows fall so heavily they bury cars up to their noses and make evergreens bow and keep your kitties curled up for a while.

Children love snow better than anyone does, and they never complain as they pull on their red boots and mittens and make plans to catch wet flakes on their tongues and roll their small bodies to the bottom of a hill. The snow loves them back; it gives them angels and new friends.

While the snow is here, it reminds us that nothing lasts forever except memories. So, while the snow is here, in this brief moment, let us take a walk and see how beautiful the world is. Then we can come back to our white, quiet homes and make something warm to drink, and maybe read or play a game or tell each other all that we’ve been thinking.

The snow is falling while the flowers sleep, and the sun sleeps, and the soft green gardens are waiting. It is the snow’s turn now. We’ll watch it fall.

Playing in the snow can be so much fun! Just make sure to wear warm clothes so you don’t get frostbite.
