???? Kids Book Read Aloud: IT’S CHRISTMAS, DAVID!

Hello, my reading friends! I’m Ani, and I’m so happy you’re here with me today. I want to say a big hello to my friends Henley, Madison, and Erin. I hope you’re all having a fun holiday season!

What’s David Up To?

Have you ever wondered what our friend David is doing during Christmas? Do you think he’s being good? Let’s find out together as we read “It’s Christmas, David!” If you have the book, you can read along with me!

David and the Lump of Coal

At Christmas, people say, “Look at what David has!” It’s a lump of coal! Santa gives coal when someone is naughty. Oh, David is trying to peek at his presents! No peeking, David!

Yummy Christmas Cookies

Look at those yummy Christmas cookies! David can’t wait to eat them. But wait, those aren’t toys! They’re ornaments for the Christmas tree. Be careful, David, they can break easily!

Santa is Watching!

Santa is watching David! Silly David, don’t run outside without your clothes! Be patient, David. There’s a long line of kids waiting to see Santa, and David is at the end. Hurry up, David!

David’s Long Wish List

Wow, look at David’s long wish list! I see a bicycle, candy, a Ferrari, a lightsaber, and a rocket. What do you see? Oh no, David! You can’t go outside instead of using the bathroom!

Oops, David!

Oh no, David broke a window! Don’t start yet, David! Remember to sit up straight, use the right fork, and keep your elbows off the table. Look how cute David is in his Christmas clothes with his bow tie. He’s really trying to be good!

Waiting for Presents

No, David, you can’t open a present early! Go to sleep, David! He’s looking out the window. Do you think he’s looking for Santa Claus?

A Sad Note from Santa

Oh no, David got a note from Santa that says, “Sorry you were naughty. Love, Santa Claus.” Poor David, he’s so sad with a tear on his cheek. All he has is a lump of coal under the tree.

It Was Just a Dream!

Wake up, David! It was just a bad dream. Look how happy he is now! It’s Christmas, and he got a bike and a book. I love books! And he gets to eat the Christmas cookies.

A Happy Ending

Here’s the real note from Santa: “Merry Christmas! Love, Santa Claus.” David did enough good things to stay on Santa’s nice list. Hooray for David!

I hope you enjoyed our story today. See you next time for more fun stories!

  1. What do you think David learned from his dream about getting a lump of coal? Have you ever had a dream that taught you something important?
  2. David had a long wish list with many different things. If you could ask for anything for Christmas, what would be on your wish list and why?
  3. David was trying to be good by the end of the story. Can you think of a time when you tried really hard to be good or helpful? What happened?
  1. Christmas Kindness Jar: Let’s help David stay on Santa’s nice list by practicing kindness! Find a jar or a small box and decorate it with holiday stickers or drawings. Every time you do something kind, like helping a friend or sharing a toy, write it down on a piece of paper and put it in the jar. At the end of the week, count how many kind things you’ve done. Can you fill the jar by Christmas?

  2. Design Your Own Christmas Cookies: Just like David, let’s create some Christmas cookies, but this time on paper! Draw and color your own cookie designs. Think about different shapes and decorations you can use. Share your designs with your friends or family and ask them which one they would like to eat. Remember, these cookies are for looking, not eating!

  3. Santa’s Watchful Eye: Imagine you are Santa’s helper. Look around your home or classroom and find someone doing something nice or helpful. Draw a picture of them doing this good deed and share it with them. How does it make them feel? How does it make you feel to notice good things happening around you?

Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

Hello, my reading friends! It’s Ani. Today, I want to send shoutouts to my friends Henley in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Madison in Louisiana, and Erin in Memphis, Tennessee. Hello to all of you! I hope you’re all enjoying this wonderful holiday season, and thank you for being my reading friends.

You know, I’ve been thinking about our little friend David. What do you think he’s been up to this holiday season? Do you think he’s been behaving himself? Let’s find out as we read “It’s Christmas, David.” If you have a copy, go get it so you can read along with me.

At Christmastime, everyone always said, “Wow, do you see what David’s holding in his hand?” It’s a lump of coal! A lump of coal is what you get from Santa when you’ve been naughty. Oh, David sure is sneaky trying to peek at his Christmas presents. No snitching!

Ooh, they made Christmas cookies, and they look so yummy! It looks like David’s having a hard time waiting. Those are not toys! Do you know what those are? Even though they look like toys, they’re ornaments that you hang on the Christmas tree, and sometimes they can be very fragile, which means they might break if you drop them.

Santa’s watching David! That silly David always seems to be running out of the house without his clothes. Be patient! Wow, that’s a lot of kids waiting to see Santa, and David’s at the very end of the line. Hurry up!

Oh my goodness, look how long David’s list is! Let’s see… I see a bicycle, candy, a Ferrari, a lightsaber, a rocket. What do you see? Oh no, naughty list! Do you see what David did? Instead of using the bathroom in the house, he went outside. Uh-oh, Santa’s going to bring you a lump of coal!

Oh no, it looks like David broke another window. Don’t start yet! See your grandmother? No yawning at the dinner table! That’s the wrong fork. Sit up straight, don’t reach, put your napkin in your lap, and get your elbows off the table. Oh, look how cute David looks in his Christmas clothes with his hair combed and his little bow tie. I think he’s really trying! There are just so many etiquette rules to remember.

No, David, you may not open one early! David is so excited to see what’s in those presents; he wants to open one early. Go to sleep, David! He’s looking out the window. What do you think he’s looking for? Do you think he’s looking for Santa Claus?

No Christmas for you, David! The note says, “Sorry you were naughty. Love, Santa Claus.” Oh no, look how sad David is! He’s got a little tear coming down his cheek, and under the tree, all there is is a lump of coal.

Wake up, David! You were dreaming! Oh, look how happy he is; it was only a bad dream. Yes, David, it’s Christmas! Look at that! He got a bike and he got a book. I love books! And now he gets to eat the Christmas cookies.

Here’s the real note from Santa. It says, “Merry Christmas! Love, Santa Claus.” Ah, it looks like he had a very Merry Christmas! David ended up doing enough good things to stay on Santa’s nice list. That could have been a close one!
