This little guy is Nexus, my youngest grandson. And here’s my oldest grandson. Can you say your name?

“My name is Noah.”

And this is Lil, my second youngest grandchild. She’s three years old. Now, let’s meet two more of my grandkids!

What’s your name?

“Blake.”

Blake, can you tell everyone what book we’re reading today?

“We’re going to read ‘Human Wanted’ by Olivia Orr.”

Great! If you have the book, grab it so you can read along with us!

Let’s Start Reading!

The book is called “Human Wanted” by Olivia Orr. It’s all about learning fun things about humans!

Let’s see, what do you eat? You can say your answer out loud!

Every time we see a red stop sign, it’s time to answer a question. If you need more time, just pause the story.

I like to eat sushi. What about you?

Yum! That sounds interesting. Do you have big teeth to eat that?

What Do You Like to Play?

There are so many fun things to play! I love board games. What do you like to play?

Wow, you must be really good at that! Do you have any work to do?

I have chores at home, but my favorite job is reading books to you. Do you do any work?

That’s what I thought! What do you love the most?

I love my family and my reading family too. How about you?

Oh, we love that too! What’s your biggest dream?

My dream is to fly all over the world and meet all my reading friends. What’s your dream?

That’s a wonderful dream! We’re cheering for you! And finally, what do you think is the cutest animal?

I think it’s a bunny! What do you think?

Shout-Outs to Our Friends!

That was so much fun reading with all my grandkids! They did a great job, didn’t they?

Let’s say hello to some of our reading friends: Rosalie in Georgia, Winnie in Vancouver, Washington, Olivia and Kaia in Katy, Texas, Kayla and Reagan in New York, Kate, Ally, and Maddie in Mississippi, Kristoff in Oroville, California, Luke and Finn in Columbus, Ohio, Conrad in Rhode Island, Kyla in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and Delilah in Houston, Texas.

Hello to all of you! I’m so happy you’re part of our reading family. I hope you enjoyed the story today. See you next time!

  • What is your favorite book to read, and why do you like it? Do you have a special person you enjoy reading with, like Ani and her grandkids?
  • If you could have any animal as a pet, just like Ani thinks bunnies are the cutest, which animal would you choose and why?
  • What is something fun you like to do with your family or friends? How does it make you feel when you do this activity together?
  1. Draw Your Favorite Part: After listening to the story, take some time to draw your favorite part of “Human Wanted” by Olivia Orr. Think about what made that part special to you. Was it something funny, exciting, or maybe a character you liked? Share your drawing with your friends or family and explain why you chose that scene.
  2. Human Observation Walk: Go on a short walk with a family member or friend. As you walk, observe the people around you. What are they doing? Are they eating, playing, or working? Try to notice something new about humans that you didn’t know before. When you get back, share what you observed and how it relates to the story you read.
  3. Role-Play Your Dream: Think about the part of the story where you talked about your biggest dream. Now, pretend you are living that dream! If your dream is to be a pilot, make a paper airplane and fly it around. If you dream of being an artist, create a new piece of art. Share your role-play with someone and talk about why this dream is important to you.

“Human Wanted” by Olivia Orr.

I’ve always wanted to see one. Stay bigger, and I got… what a funny nose! We have so many things we want to learn about humans. Can we ask you? What do you think, reading friends? Do you want to answer their questions with me?

I say sure! What do you eat? Answer out loud so we can hear before you turn the page.

Okay, reading friends, so every time we see a red stop sign, it’s our turn to answer the question. If you need more time, make sure to pause the video.

I like to eat sushi. What about you?

Interesting! That sounds dangerous. You must need big teeth!

Okay, this one: What do you like to play? Hmm, there are so many things I like to play. One of my favorite things is board games. How about you?

You must be very talented! That sounds like it has a lot of rules. Do you do any work?

I have lots of chores I do around the house, but my favorite job is reading books to you. Alright, reading friends, do you do any work?

That’s what we thought! What do you love the most?

I just love my family, and I love my reading family too. How about you?

Oh, we love that too! What is your biggest dream?

I’ve got a really big dream. I’d like to fly all over the world and meet each one of my reading friends. Okay, reading friends, your turn!

So admirable! That’s a great dream; we’re cheering for you! And lastly, what do you think is the cutest animal?

I think that one’s obvious! That was rhetorical. That was the first time I’ve ever read a book with all of my grandkids at the same time, and I loved every minute of it! Didn’t they do a great job?

Alright, let’s do some shout-outs today! They’re going out to Rosalie in Georgia, Winnie in Vancouver, Washington, Olivia and Kaia in Katy, Texas, Kayla and Reagan in New York, Kate, Ally, and Maddie in Mississippi, Kristoff in Oroville, California, Luke and Finn in Columbus, Ohio, Conrad in Rhode Island, Kyla in Saint Paul, Minnesota, as well as Delilah in Houston, Texas.
