Hi there, my reading friends! I’m Ani, and I’m so happy you’re here with me today. Are you ready for a fun story? Let’s read about a little bear who’s going to school for the first time. What do you think will happen? Let’s find out together!
In our story, Little Bear is getting ready to start school. He’s a bit scared because he doesn’t know what it will be like. Have you ever felt scared about something new? Little Bear’s Mama is there to help him feel better.
The night before school, Little Bear couldn’t sleep because he was worried. But Mama Bear had a special surprise for him! She gave him an envelope with a note and two bracelets inside. One bracelet was for Little Bear, and the other was for Mama Bear. She said, “When you wear this bracelet, remember I’m always thinking of you!”
With his bracelet on, Little Bear felt a bit braver. Mama Bear walked him to school and gave him a big kiss. She told him, “You are strong and brave!” Little Bear was ready to start his new adventure.
School turned out to be fun, but making friends was a little hard. That night, Little Bear told Mama Bear about his day. He wanted to make new friends. Mama Bear had an idea! She gave Little Bear more bracelets to share with his classmates.
The next day, Little Bear gave a bracelet to Mary Lou. He said, “Let today be the start of something new!” Mary Lou smiled, and they became friends. But when Little Bear tried to give a bracelet to Wolfie, Wolfie was not nice and pushed him away.
Little Bear was sad, but Mama Bear told him to try again. The next day, Little Bear saw Wolfie looking sad. He went over and said, “Let’s be friends!” Wolfie was happy and said sorry for being mean. They both wore bracelets and became friends!
Little Bear learned that sharing and being kind can help make new friends. Even if it doesn’t work the first time, it’s always good to try again. Making bracelets is a fun way to show you care!
Thank you for reading with me today! I hope you enjoyed the story about Little Bear and his new friends. Remember, you can always make new friends by being kind and sharing. See you next time!
Friendship Bracelets Craft: Let’s make our own friendship bracelets just like Little Bear! Gather some colorful yarn or string and beads. Help the children create simple bracelets by threading beads onto the string. Encourage them to make one for themselves and one to give to a friend or family member. Ask them to think about how it feels to give and receive a bracelet and how it can make someone feel special.
Role-Playing New Situations: Set up a small play area to mimic a school environment. Invite the children to role-play being Little Bear on his first day of school. They can take turns being Little Bear, Mama Bear, and classmates. Encourage them to express how Little Bear might feel and how he can make new friends. Discuss how trying new things can be scary but also exciting.
Kindness Jar Activity: Create a “Kindness Jar” in the classroom. Provide small pieces of paper and crayons. Ask the children to draw or write one kind thing they can do for someone else, inspired by Little Bear’s story. Collect these in the jar and read them together. Discuss how each act of kindness can be the start of something new and wonderful, just like Little Bear’s bracelets.
Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

“Let Today Be the Start of Something New” by Jaya Soma.
In Brenda’s summer, with friends about to end, soon school would begin. Little Bear was afraid. What if school wasn’t all that great? The night before school started, Little Bear tried to sleep. He closed his eyes, but he was scared and started to weep. Mama Bear held Little Bear tight and said, “Oh my dear, school will be so much fun! You’ll see.” And with that, she kissed him good night.
That night, Mama prepared a surprise that she was sure would bring joy to Little Bear’s crying eyes. The next morning, Mama Bear gave Little Bear an envelope. Inside, he found a note and two bracelets. “Let today be the start of something new. Here are two bracelets for your first day of school. I’ll wear one, and I’ll think of you. You’ll wear the other and think of me. Look at it while you work and play, and you’ll know my heart is with you throughout the day.”
Mama Bear tied one bracelet around her wrist and the other on Little Bear’s wrist. “No matter how far away we are from each other, you’ll know deep down in your heart that we’re never apart.” Taking Mama’s hand, Little Bear walked to school. Mama Bear gave Little Bear a big kiss. “You are strong and brave, and I know you will do great. But if you feel scared or a little bit blue, hold this bracelet to your heart and know that I am thinking of you.”
It turned out Mama Bear was right—school was fun! But making new friends was easier said than done. That night, Mama Bear held Little Bear close as he told her all about his day. “I would like to make new friends, Mama. Can you show me the way?” Mama Bear held out a handful of bracelets. “Try sharing these with your classmates,” she said. “When you offer affection, you can make a connection.”
The next day, Little Bear held out a bracelet to Mary Lou. “This is for you,” he said with a big smile. “Let today be the start of something new.” Mary Lou smiled back, happily accepting his gift. Soon both were wearing their new bracelets, and a new friendship was born.
Then Little Bear offered a bracelet to Wolfie. “Let’s be friends,” he said. But Wolfie didn’t want to be friends. He pushed Little Bear and shouted, “Leave me alone!” That night, Little Bear told his mama what had happened. He didn’t understand why Wolfie had been so mean. “Not everyone can be your friend,” Mama Bear said, “but it’s always good to try. Try again; I’m sure you’ll be glad you did.”
The next day, Little Bear and Mary Lou were playing when Little Bear saw Wolfie sitting by himself and looking sad. Little Bear walked over to Wolfie and said, “Why don’t you come and play? I’d love to be your friend.” Wolfie apologized for pushing Little Bear the day before. “I thought you were making fun of me,” he said. “Everyone I tried to make friends with treated me unkindly.”
Little Bear thought of Mama Bear’s words: “When you offer affection, you can make a connection.” Little Bear smiled and held out a bracelet. “Let’s start over. Wear this bracelet and let today be the start of something new.” Wolfie smiled back and said, “A true friendship for me and you. It’s love that keeps us all connected. Let the invisible thread of love warm your heart and let connection start.”
Homemade bracelets are a great way to make new friends! I love homemade bracelets!
