share us on:

In today’s Story Time, Ryan shared the tale of Strega Nona, a kind old lady with a magical pot that could cook endless pasta. The story highlights the importance of listening and following instructions, as Big Anthony learned when he accidentally let the pot overflow. Ultimately, it teaches us about the value of understanding, sharing, and helping one another in our community.
  1. What did Big Anthony forget to do with the magic pot?
  2. Why do you think everyone loved Strega Nona?
  3. How did the townspeople help each other at the end of the story?

Welcome to Story Time with Ryan!

Hello, friends! I’m Ryan, and I’m here to share a wonderful story with you. Today, we have a special book that was sent to us by a class from Texas. Thank you so much for sharing this book with us! Let’s dive into the story together.

Meet Strega Nona

Our story is about a kind old lady named Strega Nona. “Strega Nona” means “Grandma Witch” in Italian. She lived in a small town called Calabria a long, long time ago. Everyone in the town loved Strega Nona because she was very wise and knew how to help people with her magic.

Strega Nona’s Magic Pot

Strega Nona had a special magic pot. This pot could cook delicious pasta all by itself! All Strega Nona had to do was say some magic words, and the pot would start bubbling with yummy pasta. But there was one important rule: you had to know how to stop the pot, or it would keep making pasta forever!

Learning from Strega Nona

Strega Nona had a helper named Big Anthony. One day, Strega Nona went out, and Big Anthony decided to use the magic pot. He said the magic words, and the pot started making pasta. But oh no! Big Anthony didn’t know how to stop it! The pasta kept coming and coming, filling the whole town!

The Lesson

When Strega Nona returned, she quickly stopped the pot with her magic words. Big Anthony learned an important lesson that day: always listen and follow instructions carefully. Everyone in the town helped clean up the pasta, and they all shared a big pasta feast together.

What We Learned

This story teaches us to be careful with things we don’t fully understand and to always listen to those who know more. It’s also about sharing and helping each other, just like the townspeople did with the pasta.

I hope you enjoyed the story of Strega Nona! Remember, learning and listening are important, and sharing with friends makes everything more fun. Thanks for joining me for Story Time with Ryan!

  • What do you think would happen if you had a magic pot like Strega Nona’s? How would you use it, and what would you make?
  • Have you ever tried to do something by yourself without knowing all the steps, like Big Anthony? What happened, and what did you learn from it?
  • Why do you think it’s important to listen to instructions carefully? Can you think of a time when listening helped you or someone else?
  1. Magic Pot Experiment: Let’s pretend we have our own magic pot! Gather some playdough or clay and shape it into a pot. Now, think about what magic words you would use to make your pot create something special. Share your magic words with a friend or family member and take turns imagining what your pot would make. Remember, just like Strega Nona, you need to know how to stop your pot! Discuss with your partner how you would stop it and why it’s important to know how to control your magic pot.

  2. Follow the Recipe: Just like Big Anthony needed to follow instructions, let’s practice following a simple recipe. With the help of an adult, make a simple snack like a fruit salad or a sandwich. Pay attention to each step and make sure you follow the instructions carefully. After you’re done, talk about why it’s important to follow instructions and what could happen if you don’t. How did following the steps help you make a tasty snack?

  3. Pasta Cleanup Game: Imagine your room is filled with pasta like in the story! Set a timer for a few minutes and pretend to clean up the “pasta” (toys or other items) as fast as you can. Work with a friend or family member to see how quickly you can tidy up. After the game, discuss how working together made the cleanup faster and more fun. How does helping each other make tasks easier?
