Hello, my wonderful reading friends! Are you ready for a fun story? Today, we are going to learn about an egg with big dreams. Let’s see if this little egg can reach his goals as we read “Humphrey the Explorer.”
Hello, I am Humphrey Dumpty. I am an egg, and I dream of being an explorer, just like my grandpa. Grandpa Humpty was a great explorer! He even rode with the king’s horses and the king’s men. But one day, he sat on a wall and fell. I don’t want to fall like that, so I have to be very careful.
No one else in my egg carton wants to be an explorer. They think it’s better to become a yummy cake or a colorful Easter egg. But I want to go on adventures like Grandpa Humpty! To do that, I need to be strong. Maybe I should try some exercises!
I try swinging swords with a spoon, boxing with a fork, and even doing the freeze challenge in the freezer. It’s so cold! But after all that, I still feel like I might crack. My egg friends say I need to stay hot for 10 minutes to be strong. So, I sit in the sun, but it doesn’t help.
I wonder if a dragon’s fire or a volcano’s heat could make me strong. But where can I find those? Oh no, it’s baking day! I don’t want to end up in a cake before my adventures!
I need a quiet place to think. The bath looks perfect! It’s warm and relaxing. I dream about sailing the ocean and having adventures like Grandpa Humpty. When I get out, I feel different. My friends notice too. “Humphrey, you look stronger!” they say. I am hard-boiled now!
Now, I am strong and ready for my adventures. I am Humphrey, the egg explorer! I don’t know where I’m going, but I’m excited to find out. My adventure begins!
I hope you enjoyed our exciting story today. See you next time!
Egg Strength Experiment: Let’s explore how Humphrey became strong! With the help of an adult, hard-boil an egg and compare it to a raw egg. Gently tap each egg on a table and observe what happens. Which one is stronger? Talk about why Humphrey felt stronger after his bath and how heat can change things.
Adventure Map Drawing: Just like Humphrey, imagine you are going on an adventure. Draw a map of the places you would like to explore. Include fun landmarks like a dragon’s cave or a volcano. Share your map with a friend and tell them about the adventures you would have there.
Egg Carton Storytelling: Use an empty egg carton to create a story about Humphrey’s friends. Decorate each egg cup to represent a different character or place from the story. Use your egg carton to tell a new story about Humphrey’s next adventure. What challenges might he face, and how will he overcome them?

Hello, I am Humphrey Dumpty. I am an egg, and my greatest dream is to become an explorer, just like my grandpa. Grandpa Humpty wasn’t just any explorer; he was the greatest. They say he rode with the king’s horses and the king’s men, but then he sat on a wall and fell. I don’t want to end up like that, so I have to be very careful every time I wobble on the kitchen counter or roll outside the fridge. I don’t want to crack, especially before I’ve gone on any adventures.
No one else in my dozen shares my dream of becoming an explorer. They ask me why I wouldn’t want to become a delicious cake instead or a brightly colored Easter egg. But I want to go where no egg has gone, just like Grandpa Humpty. I also don’t want to crack, so I must become strong. Maybe I should start with some exercises, like swinging swords with a samurai spoon, boxing with a four Crusader, and doing the freeze challenge in the freezer.
It’s cold, but after all that hard work, I don’t feel any stronger. I’m still worried I could crack. The rest of my dozen tells me that to be strong, I must stay hot for about 10 minutes. So, I wrap myself up snug as a bug and sit in the blazing sun, but I don’t think it works. I’m still worried I could crack.
What if a fire-breathing dragon blew heat on me, or I went near a fiery volcano, or orbited around the hot sun? Oh no, here comes a hand! I forgot today is Sunday—it’s baking day! I can’t end up in a cake, not before I’ve had my adventures.
How can I be strong when there’s no dragon here and no volcano over there? Where am I going to get a rocket ship to get to the sun? How am I ever going to be a great explorer now? I need to find somewhere quiet where I can think and figure out a new plan.
Oh, this bath looks like the perfect place! Wow, it’s so nice and warm in here. I feel totally relaxed. I float, dreaming about sailing the big blue ocean and going on a great outdoor adventure like Grandpa Humpty. But I’m starting to feel a little strange. When I leave the bath, my steps are heavier, and my body feels powerful. I feel different!
My dozen notices too. “Humphrey, you sound heavier! Humphrey, you look stronger!” Oh my goodness, I am hard-boiled! Does this mean… Yes, Humphrey, you are much stronger now. But even so, you are still easy to crack, so please be careful.
I will, thank you, my friends! I’m not afraid of being cracked anymore. I am ready! I am Humphrey, the egg explorer. I may not know where I’m going or what lies ahead, but I am strong and excited to be on my way. My adventure begins!
I hope you enjoyed our exciting story today. See you next time!
