In the lesson “Let’s Dance in the Rain!”, participants engage in a fun and interactive movement activity that simulates dancing in the rain. Through playful commands like “drip,” “splash,” and “drop,” children mimic raindrops and puddle jumping, fostering creativity and physical activity. The lesson concludes with a joyful recap of the movements, encouraging children to express themselves through dance.
  1. What do you pretend to do when you hear “drip”?
  2. How do you feel when you jump in a puddle and say “splash”?
  3. Can you show me how to “drop” and then “hop” like a raindrop?

Let’s Dance in the Rain!

Hi there! Are you ready to have some fun? Let’s stand up and get moving because today we’re going to dance in the rain! Yay!

Drip, Drip, Drip!

When I say “drip,” pretend your arms and fingers are raindrops. Let them fall down to the ground like rain dripping from the sky. Can you do that? Great!

Splash, Splash!

Now, when I say “splash,” stomp your feet around like you’re jumping in a big, fun puddle. Imagine the water splashing everywhere! Isn’t that exciting?

Drop and Hop!

And when I say “drop,” crouch down low, then hop back up high. It’s like you’re a raindrop falling and bouncing back up again. Let’s try it!

Let’s Dance Together!

Are you ready to put it all together? Let’s dance in the rain!

Drip!

Splash!

Drop! One more time!

Drop! Wow, you did an amazing job moving and dancing! See you next time for more fun. Bye-bye!

  • Have you ever danced in the rain or played in puddles? What was it like, and how did it make you feel?
  • What other fun activities can you think of that you can do outside when it’s raining? Why do you think they are fun?
  • If you could create a new dance move inspired by nature, what would it be? Can you show us or describe it?
  • Raindrop Art: Let’s create our own raindrop art! Use blue paint or crayons to draw raindrops on a piece of paper. Can you make big raindrops and small raindrops? Try to make them fall from the top of the paper to the bottom, just like real rain. Once you’re done, show your artwork to a friend and describe how the raindrops are falling.

  • Puddle Jumping Game: Pretend there are puddles on the ground. Use pillows or pieces of paper to mark where the puddles are. Jump from one puddle to another, just like you did in the dance. How many puddles can you jump over without touching the ground? Invite a friend to join and see who can jump the most puddles!

  • Weather Watch: Look outside and see if you can spot any clouds. Do they look like rain clouds? If it’s raining, watch how the raindrops fall. Are they fast or slow? If it’s not raining, imagine what it would be like if it started to rain. Share your observations with your family and talk about how rain helps plants and animals.

Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

Hi! Come on, stand up! It’s time to move! Let’s go, because today we’re dancing in the rain! Hooray! When I say “drip,” dance with your arms and fingers down to the ground like dripping rain. When I say “splash,” stomp your feet around like you’re splashing in a giant puddle. And when I say “drop,” drop down low, then hop back up. Are you ready? Okay, let’s dance in the rain!
