Eyes Out: The Rainy Day

Written and illustrated by Ramona Sanderson

Once upon a time, there was a Blue Dragon who felt sad because it was a rainy day. He didn’t like the rain because it made him feel gloomy. But then, his friend Pink Dragon came along and asked, “Why so blue, Blue Dragon? Let me show you how rain can be fun! You can splash in puddles!” Pink Dragon jumped into a puddle with a big splash.

“Wow!” said Blue Dragon, feeling curious. He tried jumping into a puddle too. “This is so fun! What else can we do in the rain?”

“Follow me!” said Pink Dragon. “Look at what the rain did to the stream!”

“It turned into a river!” exclaimed Blue Dragon, amazed.

“Look, I made little boats! Do you want to race them?” asked Pink Dragon.

“Sure!” replied Blue Dragon, excitedly.

“I won!” shouted Blue Dragon happily.

“Oh no, I fell in the water!” laughed Pink Dragon, and Blue Dragon giggled along with her.

Just then, Mama Dragon called, “Come inside, it’s thundering.”

At dinner, Blue Dragon and Pink Dragon told their parents all about their rainy day adventures. They hoped for another rainy day soon so they could have more fun.

Wasn’t Ramona’s story amazing? Pink Dragon showed Blue Dragon how much fun a rainy day can be. She was such a great friend! I hope you enjoyed our story today. See you next time!

Fun Rainy Day Activities

Rainy days can be exciting! Here are some fun things you can do:

  • Splash in puddles like Blue Dragon and Pink Dragon.
  • Make paper boats and race them in streams.
  • Watch the raindrops race down the window.
  • Draw or paint pictures of rainy day adventures.

Remember, even if it’s raining outside, you can always find ways to have fun and enjoy the day!

  1. Have you ever felt sad or gloomy on a rainy day like Blue Dragon? What did you do to feel better?
  2. What are some fun activities you like to do when it rains? Do you have a favorite rainy day game or activity?
  3. If you could spend a rainy day with any animal or creature, like Blue Dragon and Pink Dragon, who would it be and what adventures would you have together?
  1. Puddle Jumping Experiment: Next time it rains, put on your rain boots and go outside with an adult. Find a puddle and jump in it! Notice how the water splashes. Can you make a bigger splash by jumping higher? Try jumping with a friend and see who can make the biggest splash. Talk about why the water moves the way it does when you jump.
  2. Make Your Own Rain Gauge: Use an empty plastic bottle to create a rain gauge. With the help of an adult, cut the top off the bottle and place it upside down inside the bottom part to act as a funnel. Mark measurements on the side with a ruler. Leave it outside when it rains and check how much rain you collected. Discuss with your family why measuring rain can be important.
  3. Rainy Day Storytime: Imagine you are Blue Dragon or Pink Dragon. Write or draw a short story about a new adventure you might have on a rainy day. What fun activities would you do? Share your story with your family or friends and ask them what they like to do when it rains.
