Hello, my reading friends! I’m so happy you’re here. Today, we’re going to read a special story about Santa and the important things he wants us to remember at Christmas time and all year long. Let’s find out what they are in “A Gift to Remember.” If you have the book, you can read along with me!
Santa is very busy at the North Pole. The elves are making toys, and the air smells like cocoa and candy canes. The reindeer are ready to fly, and Santa’s sleigh is filling up with gifts for children everywhere.
One day, Santa got a letter from a child. The letter asked Santa for a surprise and also to give a toy to someone who needs one. The child even asked Santa what he wanted for Christmas!
As Santa sat by the fire, Mrs. Claus asked him what one gift he would give to all the children. Santa thought for a moment and said, “I would give them the gift of remembering.”
Santa had a wonderful idea! He told the elves to make a special dust to sprinkle on each toy. This dust would help children remember important things like family, friends, God’s love, and Jesus.
The elves sprinkled the magic dust on each toy. Santa wanted every child to remember to be kind and to thank God. He wanted them to remember the special night when Jesus, the holy light, was born.
When children wake up on Christmas morning and see their gifts, the dust will remind them of these important things.
So, what does Santa want us to remember? Our families, God’s love, and Jesus. These things are very important and make Christmas special.
I hope you enjoyed our story today. Merry Christmas to all my reading friends around the world!
Memory Box Craft: Create a “Memory Box” with the children. Provide each child with a small box and art supplies like stickers, markers, and glitter. Encourage them to decorate their box and fill it with small items or drawings that remind them of their family, friends, and things they are thankful for. Discuss with them how these memories make them feel and why they are important.
Kindness Chain: Start a “Kindness Chain” in the classroom. Give each child strips of colored paper and ask them to write or draw an act of kindness they can do for someone else. Link the strips together to form a chain. Hang the chain in the classroom as a reminder of the importance of kindness and how it connects us all, just like Santa’s magic dust connects children to important memories.
Discussion Time: Gather the children in a circle and ask them to share a special memory with their family or friends. Prompt them with questions like, “What is your favorite family tradition?” or “How do you show love to your friends?” Encourage them to listen to each other’s stories and reflect on how these memories make them feel happy and loved.

Dear Santa, how are you? My brother and I would love a surprise for Christmas. Can you also give a toy to someone who needs one? P.S. What do you want for Christmas?
Thank you for your letter. Our head elf postman delivered it to me a few days ago. It is mighty busy here; the entire North Pole is hustling and bustling getting ready for Christmas. The snow is deep, and we get little sleep as we whittle and glue, making gifts just for you.
Smells of cocoa and candy canes fill the air as our elves make the toys, crafting each one with care. My reindeer are groomed and all ready for flight, and my sleigh’s filling up, much to children’s delight. Boys and girls know that Saint Nick is coming to town, so I’ll have one last rest and then make my way down.
As I sit by the fireside to warm up my boots, Mrs. Claus sits beside me to patch up my suit. She smiles at me warmly and murmurs, “My dear, I have a question. After all these years, if you could give one gift, then what would it be for all of the children on this Christmas Eve?”
I stroke my white beard and then touch my white head. “Why, I’d give them the gift of remembering,” I said. This idea brought so much Christmas joy to my heart that I thought up a plan and knew I must start.
I dashed out of my chair and threw on my red coat. I told all the elves about the letter you wrote. “Make the toys for the kids like you always do,” I said, “but this year let us add something new. We’ll make sparkling red and gold remembering dust for kids to remember what’s crucial. They must think of family and friends, think of life and God’s love, and a holy pure baby sent here from above.”
To the elves, I cried, “Sprinkle this dust on each toy! It’s magic made special for each girl and boy. So, my dears, on each present, there’s shimmering dust, for Santa has given you this sacred trust. That on each Christmas Day, the dust will remind you to thank gracious God and to always be kind.”
Remember, remember that one silent night, the Christ child was born; he was God’s holy light. As I lay your fine gifts underneath your bright tree, I will pause here to thank Christ upon bended knee. And then when you awake on the new Christmas morn, see your dust and remember the Savior was born.
Merry Christmas, Saint Nicholas!
So, what are the things Santa wants us to remember? Our families, God’s love, and Jesusâthose things are all very important to me too.
