A Very Funny Christmas Story!

Hello, my fun-loving reading friends! Are you ready for a story? Today, we’re going to read about a cat named Splat. Splat is worried if he’s been good enough to get a big present from Santa. Let’s find out together!

Splat Writes to Santa

Splat the Cat decided to write a letter to Santa. “It’s very important to tell Santa what you want for Christmas,” said Splat. He wrote, “Dear Santa, can I please have a really big present for Christmas? Thank you, Splat. P.S. I have been a very good cat.”

Splat’s little sister said, “Only good cats get really big presents from Santa. Are you sure you’ve been good?”

“Of course!” said Splat, feeling a little worried. He thought, “Maybe I haven’t been good enough.”

Splat Helps Around the House

Splat wanted to make sure he was good, so he decided to help his mom get ready for Christmas. “Mom, I’m going to help you!” he said.

He washed the dishes, even though they weren’t dirty. “I’m just so good!” he said proudly.

Then, he decorated the Christmas tree again, even though it was already done. “Now it’s perfect!” said Splat.

Splat was very tired from being so good. “I think I’ll go to bed now,” he said.

Waiting for Santa

Splat snuggled into bed but couldn’t sleep. “Maybe I should wait up for Santa and tell him how good I’ve been,” he thought.

He listened for Santa’s reindeer, but it was just the clock ticking. He saw a shadow and thought it was Santa, but it was only his friend Seymour.

Splat waited and waited, but soon it was morning.

Christmas Morning Surprise

On Christmas morning, Splat was sad. “I guess I haven’t been good enough,” he said. His little sister said, “Told you so!”

But when they went downstairs, Splat’s family jumped out and shouted, “Merry Christmas, Splat!” They had a really big present just for him!

“It’s the best Christmas present ever!” cried Splat, feeling very happy.

I hope you enjoyed our story today. See you next time!

  1. What do you think makes someone “good”? Can you think of a time when you did something good for someone else? How did it make you feel?
  2. Have you ever been worried about something like Splat was? What did you do to feel better or solve the problem?
  3. If you could ask Santa for one special gift, what would it be and why? How do you think Splat felt when he finally got his big present?
  1. Letter to Santa Activity: Just like Splat, let’s write our own letters to Santa! Think about something special you would like for Christmas. On a piece of paper, write or draw what you want and why you think you’ve been good this year. Share your letter with a friend or family member and talk about the nice things you’ve done.

  2. Helping Hands Challenge: Splat helped his mom to show he was good. Let’s think of ways we can help at home too! Choose one thing you can do to help, like tidying up your toys or setting the table. After you help, talk with your family about how it made you feel and why helping is important.

  3. Christmas Tree Decoration Observation: Splat decorated the tree to make it perfect. Look at a Christmas tree at home or in your community. What decorations do you see? Are there any that are special to you? Draw your favorite decoration and explain why you like it. Discuss with your classmates or family how decorations make the holiday special.

In this story, Splat the Cat is afraid he hasn’t. Will he get the big present he asked for? Hi, my name is Toby, and I’m from Ohio. Like and subscribe to “Merry Christmas, Splat” by Rob Scotton.

“It’s very important to write a letter to Santa,” said Splat. “How else will he know what to bring you for Christmas?” Seymour nodded. Splat’s pencil scratched across the page until he finished. “I’ve done it!” he exclaimed, proudly showing off his letter. Seymour was impressed. Splat’s little sister wasn’t.

“Dear Santa, can I please have a really big present for Christmas? Thank you, Splat. P.S. I have been a very good cat.” She said, “Only good cats get really big presents from Santa.”

“Are you sure you’ve been good?”

“Of course,” said Splat. She gave Splat a look that only little sisters can give.

“Really?” Splat stuck his nose in the air and marched out of the kitchen. “I have been good,” he said. Seymour nodded. In fact, Splat thought, “I’ve been very good this time.” But then he had an awful thought that made his tail quiver and twitch. “Maybe I haven’t been good enough.”

Splat tried hard to remember. “Yes,” he decided. “I’m sure I have. But just in case…”

“Mom!” cried Splat. “I’m going to help you get everything ready for Christmas.”

“Oh dear,” said his mom.

Splat took that to mean, “Thank you very much! You really are a good little cat.” And he set about being ever so helpful.

“I’ve washed the Christmas dishes,” Mom said.

“Thank you, Splat,” said his mom.

“But the dishes weren’t dirty.”

“I know,” replied Splat, “and still I washed them. I’m just so good!”

“The Christmas tree is decorated now!” Mom, Splat called.

“I thought it was already done,” replied his mom.

“Not even close!” said Splat. “But it is now! I’m going to clear the snow from the path, Mom!”

“Wait!” his mom called. “Don’t open the door.”

“Being so good is very tiring,” said Splat.

“It certainly is,” said his mom.

“Oh, I think I’ll go to bed now,” Splat announced.

“Good idea,” said his mom.

Splat snuggled under the covers and closed his eyes, but his eyes wouldn’t stay closed. “Maybe I’d better wait up for Santa and tell him how good I’ve been,” thought Splat.

So Splat took his flashlight from the drawer and waited. All was quiet until… clip clop, clip clop! Splat heard reindeer on the roof. But the clip clop slowly turned to tick tock. It was only his clock.

Splat rolled over just in time to see a shadow appear on the wall. “Santa!” Splat called, but it was only Seymour making a nice angel on the window.

Splat huffed, plumped up his pillow, and waited some more. “Santa has to come soon,” thought Splat. But the rest of the night passed silently and peacefully, with not even a whisper.

Christmas morning shone through Splat’s bedroom window, but he was not the least bit excited. His little sister came in to wake him.

“I guess I haven’t been good enough after all,” said Splat.

“Told you so,” said his little sister. “But you can play with Kitty if you like.”

“Thanks,” Splat said in a little voice.

Splat’s little sister led him down the stairs. It was too quiet. There were no presents around the tree, and the rest of his family was nowhere to be seen.

“Because I haven’t been good enough,” said Splat. “Santa hasn’t visited us at all.”

But then Splat’s family leaped out from behind the sofa. “Merry Christmas, Splat!” they cheered, and they were holding a really big present just for Splat.

“It’s the best Christmas present ever!” cried Splat.

Splat was very excited with his big present. “I just wish I could find out what was in that box.”
