Hello, my amazing reading friends! It’s Annie here, and I’m so happy you’re joining me for a story. Do you like to paint? Today, we’re going to meet a little boy who loves painting so much that he paints everywhere! Let’s see what happens when his mom finds out. Are you ready to read and sing along with “I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More”? If you have the book, grab it so we can read together!
Our story is called “I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More,” written by Karen Beaumont and illustrated by David Catrow. One day, the little boy’s mom saw him painting on the floor, the ceiling, the walls, the curtains, and even the door! His brother shouted, “You ain’t gonna paint no more!”
The boy said, “I ain’t gonna paint no more, no more. I ain’t gonna paint no more.” But he loved painting so much that he couldn’t stop! He took some red paint and painted his head.
Then he said, “Now I ain’t gonna paint no more.” But he couldn’t help himself and painted his neck. “Now I ain’t gonna paint no more,” he said again.
He still couldn’t rest, so he painted his chest. “Now I ain’t gonna paint no more,” he promised.
He thought it wouldn’t hurt to paint his arm. “I ain’t gonna paint no more, no more. I ain’t gonna paint no more,” he said, but he just couldn’t stop!
Then he saw some black paint and painted his back. “Now I ain’t gonna paint no more,” he said.
Like an Easter egg, he painted his leg. “Now I ain’t gonna paint no more,” he said again.
He wasn’t done until he painted his feet. “Now I ain’t gonna paint no more, no more. I ain’t gonna paint no more,” he said.
But he was such a… well, he didn’t paint his… because there was no more paint left!
And that’s the end of our colorful story! I hope you had fun reading and singing along with me. See you next time for another exciting story!
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around your home or classroom! Look for objects that match the colors mentioned in the story, like red, black, and any other colors you remember. Can you find something red like the paint the boy used on his head? Share your findings with a friend or family member and talk about why you chose those objects.
Paint Your Own Story: Use some washable paints or crayons to create your own painting adventure. Imagine you are the little boy in the story. What would you paint if you could paint anything? Draw or paint your ideas on paper. Remember to use lots of colors and have fun! Once you’re done, share your artwork with the class and explain what you painted and why.
Creative Questions: Think about these questions and discuss them with a partner or your teacher. Why do you think the little boy loved painting so much? What would you do if you were the boy’s mom? How can we enjoy painting while keeping our surroundings clean? Share your thoughts and listen to what others have to say.

“I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More,” written by Karen Beaumont and illustrated by David Catrow.
One day, my mama saw me painting pictures on the floor and the ceiling and the walls and the curtains and the door. I heard my brother holler like I never did before, “You ain’t gonna paint no more!”
“I ain’t gonna paint no more, no more. I ain’t gonna paint no more.” That’s what I say, but there ain’t no way that I ain’t gonna paint no more. So I take some red and I paint my head.
“Now I ain’t gonna paint no more.”
“Oh, what the heck! I’m gonna paint my neck. Now I ain’t gonna paint no more.”
Still, I just can’t rest, so I paint my chest.
“Now I ain’t gonna paint no more.”
Guess there ain’t no harm if I paint my arm.
“I ain’t gonna paint no more, no more. I ain’t gonna paint no more.”
But I just can’t stand not to paint my…
And now I ain’t gonna paint no more.
Then I see some black, so I paint my back.
“Now I ain’t gonna paint no more.”
Like an Easter egg, I’m gonna paint my leg.
“Now I ain’t gonna paint no more.”
Still, I ain’t complete till I paint my feet.
“Now I ain’t gonna paint no more, no more. I ain’t gonna paint no more.”
But I’m such a… I’m not gonna paint my…
‘Cause there ain’t no paint, so I ain’t gonna paint no more.
