Hello, my reading friends! It’s Annie here. Are you ready for a fun story? Today, we’re going to meet a special monster who lives in a place called Cutesville. It’s a little hard for him because he’s the only monster there. Do you think he will find someone to love him? Let’s read “Love Monster” by Rachel Bright and find out!
This is our monster friend. Hello, monster! He looks a bit funny, don’t you think? He lives in a world full of cute, fluffy things like kittens, puppies, and bunnies. Everyone loves these cute, fluffy animals. But what about our slightly hairy, googly-eyed monster? Poor monster!
Even though he feels a little sad, our monster friend doesn’t give up. He decides to go on an adventure to find someone who will love him just the way he is. He looks everywhere! He looks up high, down low, and all around. He even looks inside and outside. Sometimes, he thinks he might have found what he’s looking for, but things aren’t always what they seem.
His search doesn’t go well for a long time. It gets dark and a little scary, and the monster feels tired. He decides to go back home. But guess what? In a blink of his googly eye, everything changes! Sometimes, when you least expect it, love finds you. Love always has a way of finding you!
I hope you enjoyed our story today! Remember, love can find you anywhere, just like it found our monster friend. See you next time for another fun story!
Monster Matching Game: Create a set of cards with pictures of different animals and our Love Monster. Mix them up and place them face down. Take turns flipping two cards at a time to find a match. Discuss how each animal is unique and lovable in its own way, just like the Love Monster. Ask, “What makes you special and lovable?”
Love Hunt Adventure: Go on a “Love Hunt” around your home or classroom. Look for objects that remind you of love, like a heart-shaped item or something that makes you feel happy. Share your findings with the group and explain why each item represents love to you. Ask, “Where do you find love in your life?”
Create Your Own Monster: Use craft supplies like paper, markers, and googly eyes to create your own unique monster. Think about what makes your monster special and lovable. Share your monster with the class and describe its special qualities. Ask, “How can we show love to those who are different from us?”

“Love Monster” by Rachel Bright.
This is a monster. Hello, monster! I think you’ll agree he’s a little bit funny-looking, to say the least. He lives in a world of cute, fluffy things, which makes being funny-looking pretty challenging. You might have noticed that everybody loves kittens, puppies, and bunnies—cute, fluffy things. But nobody loves a slightly hairy, googly-eyed monster. Poor monster!
This might be enough to make a monster feel a bit down in the dumps, but not being the moping-around sort, he decided to set out and look for someone who’d love him just the way he was. He looked high, he looked low, he looked middle-ish, he looked inside and outside. More than once, he thought that maybe, just maybe, he’d found what he was looking for. But as it turned out, things were never quite as they seemed.
Yes, it would be fair to say that his search did not go well. In fact, it didn’t go well for such a long time that it began to get dark and scary, and well, not very nice. So the monster, having lost all his energy, decided it was time to give up and go home.
But in the blink of a googly eye, everything changed. You see, sometimes when you least expect it, love finds you. Love always has a way of finding you.
I hope you enjoyed our story today! See you next time!
