Welcome to Story Time!

Hello, friends! Today, we are going to read a fun story called “Sneezy the Snowman” by Maureen Wright. Let’s find out what happens to Sneezy!

Sneezy’s Hot Cocoa Adventure

Sneezy the Snowman was feeling very cold. He thought, “I need something warm to drink!” So, he drank some hot cocoa. It tasted yummy, but oh no! Sneezy melted because the cocoa was too hot!

The children were surprised and asked, “What should we do?” Sneezy’s voice came from the puddle, “Make me brand new!”

Keeping Sneezy Warm

The children decided to help Sneezy stay warm. They gave him a scarf and a hat. Sneezy looked great, but he was still cold. He thought, “Maybe I should find a hot tub to warm up.”

He found a hot tub and sat in it. But oh no! Sneezy melted again because the water was too hot!

More Warm Clothes for Sneezy

The children rebuilt Sneezy once more. They gave him a colorful scarf and a long pink hat. Sneezy looked very nice, but he was still cold. He thought, “I will stand by the campfire to get warm.”

But oh no! Sneezy melted again because the fire was too hot!

Finding the Perfect Balance

The children rebuilt Sneezy again. This time, they gave him a bright orange coat. Sneezy was happy, but he felt too hot with all the clothes. He decided to eat some ice cream to cool down.

Sneezy ate seven scoops of ice cream! He was not too cold and not too hot. He was just right!

The Happy Ending

Sneezy learned that he could stay warm with clothes and cool with ice cream. The children were happy, and Sneezy was happy too!

Thank you for joining us for Story Time! We hope you enjoyed the story of Sneezy the Snowman. See you next time!

  • What do you think Sneezy the Snowman learned about staying warm and cool? Can you think of a time when you had to find the right balance between being too hot or too cold?
  • If you were one of the children helping Sneezy, what other ideas might you have to keep him from melting? Have you ever helped someone solve a problem before?
  • Why do you think Sneezy felt happy at the end of the story? Can you share a moment when you felt just right, like Sneezy did with his ice cream?
  1. Dress Up Sneezy: Let’s help Sneezy find the perfect outfit! Gather some scarves, hats, and coats from home or use paper cutouts to dress up a snowman drawing. Try different combinations and see which ones keep Sneezy warm without melting him. Discuss with your friends or family why some clothes might be better than others for keeping warm.

  2. Hot and Cold Experiment: Fill two bowls with water, one with warm water and one with cold water. Use a small plastic toy or a piece of ice to represent Sneezy. Place the toy in each bowl and observe what happens. Talk about why Sneezy melts in hot water and stays solid in cold water. What can we learn about temperature from this experiment?

  3. Story Time Role Play: Act out the story of Sneezy the Snowman with your friends or family. Take turns being Sneezy and the children. Use props like scarves, hats, and pretend hot cocoa. Think about how Sneezy feels when he melts and when he finds the right balance. How can we help Sneezy stay happy?

Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

Hey, I’m Ryan, and I’m Craig. Welcome to Story Time with Ryan and Craig! Today’s book is “Sneezy the Snowman” by Maureen Wright, illustrated by Steven Gilpin.

Let’s get started!

Sneezy the Snowman shivered. “It’s cold out here, that’s for sure! I need a drink to warm me up.” So he drank cocoa from a cup. He said with a smile, “I like this a lot!” And then, right there, believe it or not, he melted from drinking something too hot.

The children cried out, “What should we do?” A voice from the puddle said, “Make me brand new!”

“Yeah, we should have seen that coming,” Craig said. “You give a snowman a hot cup of cocoa, and he’s going to melt. You can’t get all that hot cocoa in a snowman belly.”

Ryan added, “But I understand. If you’re made completely of ice and snow, you’re going to be cold. You can get a little warmed up.”

“Maybe we give him a scarf,” Craig suggested.

“I love that idea! Maybe a little beanie too?” Ryan replied.

“Yeah, what about just throwing on a coat?” Craig asked.

“I don’t know if we need a whole coat,” Ryan said. “A scarf and beanie will probably be good. Let’s leave the decision up to him.”

They rebuilt Sneezy as snowflakes flew. A cold winter wind swirled, and the Snowman sneezed a gigantic “Achoo!”

“I’m sneezing and freezing and shivering too!” A little girl said, “Then let’s share! I have something you can wear. Here’s my hat to put on your head. You look awesome!”

The children said. The Snowman blinked his cold black eyes. The stocking cap was a nice surprise, but Sneezy the Snowman shivered. “It’s cold out here, that’s for sure! I am freezing every minute. I’ll find a hot tub and sit right in it.”

He found one and smiled. “I like this a lot!” And then, right there, believe it or not, he melted from sitting in water too hot.

The children cried out, “What should we do?” A voice from the hot tub said, “Make me brand new!”

“Okay, yeah, not on us,” Craig said. “If you can’t handle a cup of hot cocoa, how are you going to handle sitting in an entire body of hot water?”

Ryan said, “You know what? I think the beanie was working. Let’s just add to that. You had a great idea with the scarf.”

They rebuilt Sneezy as snowflakes flew. The Snowman sneezed again. “Achoo! I’m sneezing and freezing and shivering too!”

A little boy said, “Then let’s share! I have something you can wear. Here’s my scarf that’s red and blue. I think it would look great on you!”

The Snowman blinked his cold black eyes. The colorful scarf was a nice surprise. It went very well with the long pink hat. The children all said, “How about that?”

But Sneezy the Snowman shivered. “It’s cold out here, that’s for sure! I need to feel some warmth on me. There’s a campfire by that tree,” he said with a smile.

“I like this a lot!” And then, right there, believe it or not, he melted from standing beside something hot.

The children cried out, “What should we do?” A voice from the puddle said, “Make me brand new!”

“Are you kidding me, Sneezy? You went right to a fire!”

“But you know what? The beanie’s working. These children have it going well. Your idea of a scarf was great!”

They rebuilt Sneezy as snowflakes flew. The Snowman sneezed again. “Achoo! I’m sneezing and freezing and shivering too!”

A little girl said, “Then let’s share! I have something you can wear. Here’s my coat, the perfect fit! I know that you’ll look good in it.”

The Snowman blinked his cold black eyes. The bright orange coat was a nice surprise. It went very well with the scarf and hat. The children all said, “How about that?”

But Sneezy said, “Whoa! I’m way too hot! I’ll take off all the new clothes I’ve got!”

The children yelled, “No, that’s not the way! Listen to what we have to say. Buy something cold at the ice cream store. Have two scoops or three or four!”

Sneezy ate ice cream seven scoops high. “This is great!” the Snowman cried. “I’m not too cold and I’m not too hot, and I’m wearing clothes I like a lot!”

Then, after eating every bite, he said, “At last, I feel just right!”

“Finally!” Ryan said. “Did you see what helped solve the problem?”

“Yeah, ice cream!” Craig replied.

“That was part of it, but specifically, did you see the coat?” Ryan asked.

“Okay, okay, yeah, it was the ice cream. It had nothing to do with the scarf.”

“I love that scarf! Good idea on the scarf!”

“Thanks for watching Story Time with Ryan and Craig! Now it’s time for shoutouts!”

“Wow, you held that for a long time!”

“Miss Pia’s extended day in Wyoming, Leela and Chloe in Michigan, Mrs. Gilligan’s third-grade class in Mount Vernon, Mrs. Henny’s third-grade class in Vermont, Mrs. Ford’s kindergarten class in Trumbull, Connecticut, Mrs. Press’s third-grade class in Watts, California.”

“Remember, if you want your very own shoutout, all you have to do is go to RyanandCraig.com and send us a message. You can say anything, but you should say, ‘I want a shoutout!’”

“Cut to the chase right on through it!”

“See you next time!”
