Hello, friends! I’m Craig, and I’m so happy you’re here for Story Time! Today, we’re going to have lots of fun with a special book. Are you ready? Let’s go!
Today, we’re reading a book called “The Book with No Pictures” by BJ Novak. Guess what? This book doesn’t have any pictures at all! But don’t worry, it’s still super fun and silly. Let’s find out why!
Even though there are no pictures, this book is full of funny words and sounds. When you read it, you have to say all the silly things written on the pages. It might make you giggle and laugh a lot!
Since there are no pictures, we get to use our imagination. That means we can think of our own pictures in our heads. Maybe you can imagine a dancing monkey or a singing robot. What do you see in your imagination?
This book shows us that words can be just as fun as pictures. Words can make us laugh, think, and even sing. When we read, we can go on amazing adventures just by using our imagination and the words on the page.
Now that you know how fun words can be, try reading a book at home. Maybe you can find a book with no pictures and see what silly things you can say. Remember, reading is an adventure, and you can go anywhere with your imagination!
Thanks for joining me for Story Time. I hope you had fun! See you next time!
Create Your Own Silly Story: Gather some paper and crayons. Ask the children to think of a funny story using only words. Encourage them to write down silly sentences and then draw what they imagine. For example, “The cat wore a hat and danced with a bat!” Let them share their stories with the class and see how different everyone’s imagination is.
Sound Adventure: Have a sound scavenger hunt. Ask the children to listen carefully to the sounds around them, either in the classroom or at home. They can list the sounds they hear, like a ticking clock or a chirping bird. Then, ask them to create a story using those sounds. This helps them understand how words can create vivid images and stories in their minds.
Imagination Drawing: Read a short passage from a book without showing any pictures. Ask the children to close their eyes and imagine what is happening. Then, have them draw what they imagined. This activity helps them practice using their imagination to create pictures in their minds, just like in “The Book with No Pictures.”
Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:
