Welcome, Little Readers!

Hello, my reading friends! It’s Ani here, and I’m so happy you’re joining me for a story. Today, we have a super fun book about two pets who find out what it’s like to get pampered. Are you ready to see if they enjoy it? Let’s read “Piggy and Pepper Get Pampered” together!

The Adventures of Piggy and Pepper

Once upon a time, there was a dog named Pepper and a pig named Piggy. They lived together and loved to have adventures. One rainy day, they decided to play outside. They jumped in big puddles of rain and mud, splishing and splashing everywhere!

But oh no! They got mud all over the house—on the sofa, the chairs, and even the stairs. Their owner, Miss Tillywink, said, “It’s time to get you both clean!” Piggy and Pepper were a little worried. Where were they going?

A Day at the Groomers

When they arrived at the groomers, they were surprised! The shop was pretty in pink, with treats and smoothies. They jumped into a bubbly tub with a strawberry scrub. They even wore robes and curlers in their hair!

Piggy enjoyed cookies and scones, while Pepper munched on bonbons and bones. They were cleaner than ever and had a fantastic time. It wasn’t scary at all; it was grand!

Back to the Mud!

When they got home, Piggy and Pepper had a new plan. They ran back into the mud and made a big mess again! Miss Tillywink was not happy. So, back to the groomers they went, getting all clean and fluffy once more.

But Miss Tillywink figured out their plan. She washed them with a hose outside. The water was cold, and the wind was chilly. Piggy and Pepper decided it was better to stay clean!

The Fun Continues

But guess what? They found brushes and paint! Do you think they liked being pampered a little too much? It was such a fun story, wasn’t it?

  1. What do you think Piggy and Pepper liked most about their day at the groomers? Have you ever had a special day where you felt pampered or taken care of? What was it like?
  2. Why do you think Piggy and Pepper kept going back to the mud even after getting all clean? Can you think of a time when you did something fun even though it made a mess?
  3. If you could plan a fun day for Piggy and Pepper, what activities would you include? Would you take them somewhere special or play a game with them?
  1. Pet Pampering Station: Create a mini pet pampering station at home or in the classroom. Use toy animals or stuffed animals and set up a pretend grooming area with brushes, towels, and bowls of water. Encourage the children to role-play as groomers, giving their toy pets a pampering session. Ask them to describe what they are doing and why it’s important to keep pets clean and happy.

  2. Mud and Clean Experiment: Fill two small containers with mud or dirt and water to create a muddy mixture. Let the children dip a toy or a small object into the mud, then clean it using water and a cloth. Discuss how the object looks before and after cleaning. Ask questions like, “What happens when we get dirty?” and “How does it feel to be clean?” to help them understand the importance of cleanliness.

  3. Story Time Reflection: After reading the story, ask the children to draw their favorite part of Piggy and Pepper’s adventure. Encourage them to think about why Piggy and Pepper enjoyed being pampered and what they learned from their experience. Discuss questions like, “Why do you think Piggy and Pepper liked being clean?” and “What would you do if you were Piggy or Pepper?” to stimulate their imagination and understanding.

There once was a dog that lived with a pig, and this is the story of the adventures they had. On a rainy afternoon by the California bay, Piggy and Pepper set out to play. They ran outside to have some fun, jumping in puddles one by one—big puddles of rain and mud on the ground, splishing and splashing and rolling around. Soon they were filthy from head to tail. They ran in the house leaving a trail—mud on the sofa, mud on the chairs, mud on the drapes, and even the stairs.

“It’s off to the groomers to get you both clean,” said their owner, Miss Tillywink. But what could this mean? They looked at each other and started to worry. “Where are we going in such a big hurry?” They covered their eyes with their ears and their paws. But when they arrived, oh my, what they saw! Inside the shop was all pretty in pink, with treats at the door and smoothies to drink. Then suddenly, they jumped into a polka dot tub filled with bubbles and a strawberry scrub. They snuggled in robes and a big puffy chair with fancy pink curlers all up in their hair.

Piggy ate treats of cookies and scones, while Pepper delighted in bonbons and bones. They were cleaner than ever with a sparkle and shine. Oh, what a marvelous, fantastical time! This wasn’t so bad; in fact, it was grand. So Piggy and Pepper devised a new plan. Miss Tillywink was thrilled to pick up her pets, but once they were home, she had major regrets. Piggy and Pepper took off in a dash, into the mud and then into the trash—spoodles and oodles and baskets of clothes flying, caboodles of ribbons and bows swirling and whirling, dust clouds and grime, drips and drops of syrup and slime, sugar and honey and cookies galore. Oh, what a mess on Miss Tillywink’s floor!

How many ways could they get unclean? As dirty as ever, if you know what I mean. So back to the groomers the pig and pup went, right where they hoped they would be sent—into the bath, and powdered and puffed, all brushed and combed and even fluffed. Their toenails were polished as they sat in their seats while both of them ate mountains of treats. Piggy and Pepper did this again and again until Miss Tillywink caught on to their plans. So she took Piggy and Pepper outside to the hose, where she washed them all over from their head to their toes. The water was icy; the wind was so chilly. Nothing about this was fluffy or frilly. So as Piggy and Pepper were about to faint, they decided it was better to be clean as a saint.

That was until they discovered the brushes and paint. I think they like being pampered a little too much! What do you think? It was a fun story, wasn’t it?
