Hello, my reading friends! It’s Ani here. Are you ready for a fun story? Do you ever feel sleepy during the day? When I do, I love taking a nice nap. Let’s see who else is napping in our story today. If you have the book The Napping House by Audrey Wood and Don Wood, grab it and read along with me!
Once upon a time, there was a house, a very cozy house, where everyone was taking a nap. In this house, there was a bed, a super cozy bed, where everyone was sleeping.
On that cozy bed, there was a granny. She was snoring softly, dreaming away in the napping house where everyone was sleeping.
On top of the snoring granny, there was a child. The child was dreaming sweet dreams, right there on the snoring granny, in the cozy bed, in the napping house where everyone was sleeping.
On the dreaming child, there was a dog. The dog was dozing, enjoying a peaceful nap on the dreaming child, on the snoring granny, in the cozy bed, in the napping house where everyone was sleeping.
On the dozing dog, there was a cat. The cat was snoozing happily on the dozing dog, on the dreaming child, on the snoring granny, in the cozy bed, in the napping house where everyone was sleeping.
On the snoozing cat, there was a mouse. The mouse was slumbering quietly on the snoozing cat, on the dozing dog, on the dreaming child, on the snoring granny, in the cozy bed, in the napping house where everyone was sleeping.
On the slumbering mouse, there was a tiny flea. This flea was wide awake! It decided to bite the mouse, which made the mouse jump! The mouse scared the cat, the cat clawed the dog, the dog thumped the child, and the child bumped the granny. Oh no! The bed broke, and now no one is sleeping in the napping house!
Just one little flea caused a big commotion! I hope you enjoyed our story today. See you next time for more fun and adventures!
Build Your Own Napping House: Gather some soft blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals to create your own cozy napping house at home. Stack them up like in the story, starting with a big pillow for the granny, then add a smaller pillow for the child, and so on. Use your stuffed animals to represent the dog, cat, mouse, and flea. Once your napping house is built, pretend to be each character and act out the story. How does it feel to be the granny, the child, or the flea?
Animal Nap Time Observation: Take a walk outside or look around your home to observe animals or pets napping. Notice how they sleep and where they choose to rest. Do they curl up like the cat or stretch out like the dog? Draw a picture of your favorite animal napping and share it with the class. Discuss why you think animals need naps just like people do.
Chain Reaction Game: Just like the flea caused a chain reaction in the story, let’s create our own! Line up some dominoes or small blocks in a row. Gently push the first one and watch them all fall down. Talk about how one small action can lead to a big change, just like the flea’s bite. Can you think of other examples where a small action leads to a big reaction?

There is a house, a napping house, where everyone is sleeping. And in that house, there is a bed, a cozy bed, in a napping house where everyone is sleeping. And on that bed, there is a granny, a snoring granny, on a cozy bed in a napping house where everyone is sleeping. And on that granny, there is a child, a dreaming child, on a snoring granny, on a cozy bed in a napping house where everyone is sleeping. And on that child, there is a dog, a dozing dog, on a dreaming child, on a snoring granny, on a cozy bed in a napping house where everyone is sleeping. And on that dog, there is a cat, a snoozing cat, on a dozing dog, on a dreaming child, on a snoring granny, on a cozy bed in a napping house where everyone is sleeping. And on that cat, there is a mouse, a slumbering mouse, on a snoozing cat, on a dozing dog, on a dreaming child, on a snoring granny, on a cozy bed in a napping house where everyone is sleeping. And on that mouse, there is a flea, a wakeful flea, on a slumbering mouse, on a snoozing cat, on a dozing dog, on a dreaming child, on a snoring granny, on a cozy bed in a napping house where everyone is sleeping.
A wakeful flea who bites the mouse, who scares the cat, who claws the dog, who thumps the child, who bumps the granny, oh, who breaks the bed in the napping house where no one now is sleeping. Just one small bite from a little insect can cause a lot of commotion.
