In today’s Story Time, we explored the whimsical tale “Bedtime for Monsters” by Ed Vere, which playfully imagines a monster’s adventure as he journeys toward a child’s bedroom. As the story unfolds, we learn that the monster, rather than being scary, is simply looking for a bedtime snack, encouraging children to embrace their imagination and dispel fears of monsters. The lesson concludes with a comforting reminder that it’s time for both children and monsters to sleep, inviting them to leave out a snack for the friendly creature.
  1. What do you think the monster wants when he comes to your room?
  2. How do you feel about monsters after hearing this story?
  3. What snack would you leave out for the monster?

Welcome to Story Time!

Hello, friends! Today, we have a fun story to share with you. It’s called “Bedtime for Monsters” by Ed Vere. Are you ready? Let’s begin!

Are There Monsters?

Have you ever thought about monsters? Maybe there’s a monster not too far away. Do you think this monster might be thinking about you? Oh no, what if he’s thinking about eating you up? But don’t worry, it’s just a story!

The Monster’s Journey

Our monster is on a big adventure! He rides his bicycle through a dark forest. Do you think he’s happy because he remembered to bring his knife and fork? Hmm, what could he need those for?

Next, he crosses a sticky, gooey swamp. Do you think he’s imagining how yummy you might taste with ketchup or mustard? And when he tiptoes through prickly thorns, ouch! Maybe he thinks you’ll taste even better on hot buttered toast!

Getting Closer!

Now, the monster climbs up a cold, snowy mountain. He’s getting closer and closer to you. Do you think he’s feeling very hungry?

But wait, don’t be scared! If you hear a rumble, it might just be his tummy. And if you hear a creak, he might be climbing the stairs!

What’s Next?

As he opens your bedroom door, do you think he’s licking his lips to gobble you up? Oh no, it’s not that at all! This monster just wants a tasty snack.

Bedtime for Monsters

Good night, little kitty! It’s bedtime for monsters everywhere, big ones and little ones too. Do you really think he’d eat you up? How silly!

Maybe you could leave out a little snack for him, just in case. Can you put out a bedtime snack?

Time to Sleep!

Now, it’s time for a nap. Go to sleep, little one. The monster probably won’t eat you up, but it’s bedtime for monsters. Bye-bye!

See You Next Time!

Thanks for joining us for Story Time! We hope you had fun. If you want to hear more stories, come back next time. Bye!

  • What do you think about the idea of monsters? Have you ever imagined a friendly monster, and what would it be like?
  • If you were going on an adventure like the monster in the story, what would you bring with you and why?
  • Have you ever been scared of something that turned out to be not so scary after all? Can you share what happened and how you felt?
  1. Monster Snack Creation: Imagine you are the monster from the story and you need a bedtime snack. With the help of an adult, create a simple snack using fruits or vegetables. Arrange them on a plate to look like a funny monster face. What ingredients did you use? How does your monster snack taste?

  2. Monster Adventure Map: Draw a map of the monster’s journey from the story. Include the dark forest, the sticky swamp, and the snowy mountain. Use crayons or markers to add details. Can you think of other places the monster might visit? Add them to your map and share your adventure with a friend or family member.

  3. Monster Feelings Exploration: Think about how the monster might feel during his journey. Is he happy, scared, or excited? Draw different faces showing these emotions. Can you make the same faces in a mirror? Talk about a time when you felt the same way as the monster.

Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the YouTube transcript:

Hi, I’m Ryan Logan, and I’m Craig Jovi. Welcome to Story Time with Ryan and Craig. Today’s book is “Bedtime for Monsters” by Ed Vere. Let’s get started!

Do you ever wonder if somewhere not too far away there might be monsters? Because supposing there are monsters, do you think that this monster might be thinking about you? And if this monster is thinking about you, maybe he’s thinking about you in an eating-you-up kind of way. Oh, I hope not, because he’s coming to find you right now!

As he bicycles through a dark and terrible forest, do you think he’s smiling because he remembered to pack his knife and fork? What’s he need those for? I think you know!

As he crosses the gooey swamp, do you think he’s imagined just how good you’ll taste all covered in ketchup? Or maybe mustard? And then tiptoes through thorns and thistles—ouch! Do you think he’ll decide you’ll taste even more delicious squished and then squashed into hot buttered toast?

And at this very moment, as he climbs up the cold and snowy mountain, getting closer and closer to you, don’t you think he’ll be feeling very hungry indeed?

So, long journey—you’re not scared, are you? Oh no, because if he is feeling very hungry while he searches high and low, maybe you’ll hear his big empty tummy rumbling. And if you do hear rumbling, you might also hear a creak as he starts to climb the stairs.

As he opens your bedroom door, do you think he’s licking his lips because he wants to gobble you up? Oh no, it’s much worse than that! This monster wants a delicious snack!

Good night, little kitty! Because it’s bedtime for monsters everywhere—big ones like him and little ones too. Do you really think he’d eat you up? How silly!

Although, you could leave out a little bedtime snack just in case. Can you put out a bedtime snack?

I’m going to take a nap now.

Okay, go to sleep!

Oh, go to sleep, little Ryan. He probably will not eat you up, but it’s bedtime for monsters. Bye!

Thanks for watching Story Time with Ryan Logan and Craig Jovi. We’ll see you next time!
