Today, we’re going to read a fun story called “Frog Goes to School” by Jonathan London. Are you ready? Let’s hop right in!
It was the first day of school, and Froggy was so excited! But oh no, he woke up late! The sun was shining bright, and the school bus was already leaving. “Wait for me!” Froggy shouted as he hopped out of bed and flopped outside—flop, flop, flop!
Froggy hopped onto the bus, but everyone started laughing. Oh dear, Froggy was still in his underwear! He quickly hid behind his friend Max’s umbrella all the way to school.
But guess what? Froggy was just dreaming! He woke up in his bed and realized it was time to get ready for school. This time, he put on his clothes and flopped into the kitchen—flop, flop, flop!
Froggy’s mom said, “Everyone feels a little nervous on the first day of school.” But Froggy was ready! They leapfrogged to the bus stop together—flop, flop, flop!
At school, Froggy found his name tag on his table. He was so happy because it was the first word he learned to read. “Froggy!” he said out loud. His teacher, Miss Witherspoon, asked everyone to share what they did last summer. Froggy was excited to tell everyone he learned how to swim!
Just then, the principal, Mr. Mugwort, walked in. Froggy felt a little shy, but Mr. Mugwort joined in the fun and sang along with Froggy until it was time for recess.
After school, Froggy’s dad asked, “How was your first day of school?” Froggy said, “Great! I even told the principal how to swim!” But Froggy forgot his lunchbox and baseball cap at school. “Oh Froggy, will you ever learn?” his mom asked. Froggy giggled and said, “That’s why I’m going to school, Mom!”
And that’s the end of our story. Thanks for joining Story Time! We hope you had fun. See you next time!
Froggy’s Morning Routine: Let’s help Froggy get ready for school! Pretend you are Froggy and practice your morning routine. What do you do first when you wake up? Do you brush your teeth, get dressed, or eat breakfast? Share your routine with a friend or family member and see if they do anything differently.
Name Tag Adventure: Just like Froggy found his name tag, let’s make our own! Create a name tag using paper and crayons. Write your name and decorate it with your favorite colors or stickers. Wear it proudly and practice spelling your name out loud. Can you find other things around the house that have words you can read?
Leapfrog Fun: Froggy and his mom leapfrogged to the bus stop. Let’s play a game of leapfrog! Find a safe space, like a garden or a park, and take turns with a friend or family member to leap over each other. Count how many leaps you can do in a row. How does it feel to move like Froggy?
Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

[Music] Welcome to Story Time with Craig, Jovi, and Ryan Lagaan. Today’s book is “Frog Goes to School” by Jonathan London, illustrated by Frank Remkiewicz.
It was the first day of school. Froggy woke up and looked out the window. The sun was high in the sky. “Oh no, the bus!” he cried. “I’ll miss the bus!” He hopped out of bed and flopped outside—flop, flop, flop. The school bus was leaving. “Whoo-whoo!” he yelled and took a mighty hop.
“Ryan, is that what he’s wearing to school?”
“Well, frogs are swimmers, so it looks like a swimsuit. Let’s hope so.”
The bus hissed to a stop and the door folded open. Froggy flopped up the steps—flop, flop, flop. But when he reached the top, everybody laughed and pointed. Froggy yelled, “Max, did you forget something?” Froggy looked down—he was in his underwear!
He dashed to the back of the bus and hid behind Max’s umbrella all the way to school. “Why didn’t you change?” “Sorry, bus driver, can you hold on a minute? I’m not wearing any clothes!”
At school, he hopped behind bushes, tried to hide behind the flagpole, and rolled down the hall like a bowling ball. In class, he pretended to be a flower pot. “Froggy!” called his teacher, but it wasn’t his teacher at all—it was his father!
Froggy rubbed his eyes; he had been dreaming. He was still in bed. “Russ, Aunt Jean!” Froggy said. “It’s the first day of school!” This time, Froggy got all dressed. Then he flopped into the kitchen—flop, flop, flop. He tried to pour milk on his bowl of flies, but the carton flew out of his hands.
“You just noticed about school?” Froggy’s mother asked. “Everybody is nervous on the first day.” “Not me!” cried Froggy. Together, they leapfrogged all the way to the bus stop—flop, flop, flop.
At school, Froggy found his name tag on his table. He liked his name; it was the first word he knew how to read. He read it aloud: “Froggy!” Louder and louder he said it. “Froggy! Froggy!” cried his teacher, Miss Witherspoon. “It’s time to pay attention!” But it was hard to pay attention. He squirmed and looked out the window at the falling leaves. He felt like a leaf falling—plop! He fell out of his chair. “Oops!”
“Froggy, sit on the floor,” said Miss Witherspoon. “At circle time, I’d like you to tell us what you did last summer. Who wants to go first?” Froggy shouted, “Me! Me! Me! Me!” and so did Max.
Miss Witherspoon clapped, and everybody clapped with her. Then they grew very quiet. One at a time, Miss Witherspoon called on students. When Froggy’s turn came, he jumped up and said, “Last summer, I learned how to swim!” and he sang a song.
“Do you know the song?” Ryan asked. “I’ve never heard it in my life.”
“Hey kids, if you know this song, please comment in the section below or send us a video, and we’ll play it next week on Story Time with Ryan, Craig, and Toby.”
Uh-oh! In walked the principal, Mr. Mugwort. Froggy looked more red in the face than green. Mr. Mugwort glared at him, then joined in the song until the bell rang for recess.
When Froggy flopped off the bus after school, his father asked, “Frog, how was your first day of school?” “Great!” said Froggy. “I told the principal how to swim!”
“That’s nice,” said his mother, “but where’s your lunchbox and baseball cap?” “I left them at school.” “Oh Froggy, will you ever learn?” said his mother. “That’s why I’m going to school, Mom!”
And together they leapfrogged back to the school to get his things.
Thanks for watching Story Time with Ryan, Craig, and Toby. We’ll see you next time!
