In the lesson “Welcome to Story Time with Creativity,” we follow the inspiring journey of Little May, a dreamer who aspires to become an astronaut and see Earth from space. Despite facing skepticism from her peers, May’s parents encourage her to pursue her dreams, emphasizing that with belief and hard work, anything is achievable. The story ultimately conveys a powerful message about the importance of dreaming big and persevering in the face of challenges.
  1. What did Little May want to be when she grew up?
  2. How did May’s mom help her believe in her dreams?
  3. What do you think the story teaches us about following our dreams?

Welcome to Story Time with Creativity!

Hi there! I’m RyanLogan, and I’m so excited to share a fun story with you today. If you enjoy our stories, you can follow us on Instagram or visit our website to see more. A big thank you to Maya and Emilio for sending us today’s book. And happy birthday to Maya on May 27! Today’s story is called “The Stars” by Rod Ahmed, with beautiful pictures by Stacia Burrington. Let’s dive in!

Meet Little May, the Dreamer

Little May loved to dream big. Some people say daydreamers can’t succeed, but May was different. One day, she had a school project about what she wanted to be when she grew up.

May said, “I want to see Earth!”

Her mom explained, “This is Earth, May. The flowers, the grass, the forests, and the mountains—we live on Earth.”

But May replied, “I want to see Earth from out there!”

Dreaming of Space

May’s mom encouraged her big dreams, saying, “You have to become an astronaut! That way, you can see Earth from space.”

May asked, “Do you think I could do that?”

“Of course you can! If you can dream it, believe in it, and work hard for it, anything is possible,” her mom said.

After dinner, May looked for books about space and astronauts. She even made her own astronaut costume using old curtains and cardboard boxes. She asked her dad how to become an astronaut.

He told her, “You will find your way, May. If you dream it, believe in it, and work hard for it, anything is possible.”

A Magical Dream

That night, May had a wonderful dream. She was dancing in space, surrounded by twinkling stars, and she could see Earth below her, shining like a crystal ball.

The next morning, May excitedly told her parents about her dream. Her eyes sparkled with joy every time she talked about it.

Sharing Her Dream

In class, Miss Belle asked everyone to share their dreams for the future. May said, “I want to be an astronaut!” But some kids laughed, and Miss Belle suggested she think about being a nurse instead.

May felt sad on her way home. She looked out the car window, feeling a bit blue. When she got home, she started crying.

Her mom comforted her, saying, “Don’t let anyone stop you from following your dreams, May. You can go to space!”

May promised, “When I get to space, I will wave to you and Dad from the spaceship!”

Her mom encouraged her, “Always remember: If you can dream it, believe in it, and work hard for it, anything is possible.”

Reaching for the Stars

May kept dreaming, believing, and working hard, and guess what? She went to space and waved to her mom and dad on Earth.

This story shows us that if you dream it, believe in it, and work really hard for it, anything is possible!

  1. What big dreams do you have, just like Little May? Can you think of something you would love to do or be when you grow up?
  2. Have you ever felt like May when someone didn’t believe in your dreams? How did you feel, and what did you do about it?
  3. May’s parents encouraged her to follow her dreams. Can you think of a time when someone encouraged you to do something you really wanted? How did that make you feel?
  1. Dream Journal: Encourage the children to start their own “Dream Journal.” Ask them to draw or write about their dreams and what they want to be when they grow up, just like Little May. They can decorate their journals with stars and planets to make it more fun. Discuss with them how they can work towards their dreams and what steps they might need to take.

  2. Build a Spaceship: Organize a craft activity where the children can create their own spaceship models using recycled materials like cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, and paper tubes. Encourage them to think about what they would need to take on a space journey and how they would design their spaceship. This hands-on activity helps them visualize their dreams and understand the concept of working towards a goal.

  3. Star Gazing Adventure: Plan a simple star-gazing activity. If possible, take the children outside at night to look at the stars. Ask them to imagine what it would be like to see Earth from space, just like May dreamed. Encourage them to share what they see and how it makes them feel. This activity helps them connect with the story and understand the vastness of space.

I want to give a special shout-out to Maya and Emilio for sending us today’s book. I also want to say happy birthday to Maya on May 27! Thanks for sending us today’s book; we can’t wait to read it. Today’s book is “The Stars” by Rod Ahmed, illustrated by Stacia Burrington. Let’s get started!

Little May was a dreamer. They say that daydreamers never succeed, but little May was different. One day, May was working on an assignment for school about what she wanted to be when she grew up.

May said, “I want to see Earth!”

Her mother explained, “This is Earth, May. The flowers, the grass, the forests, and the mountains—we live on Earth.”

But May replied, “I want to see Earth from out there!”

Her mother encouraged her big dreams, saying, “You have to become an astronaut! That way, you can see Earth from space.”

May asked, “Do you think I could do that?”

“Of course you can! If you can dream it, believe in it, and work hard for it, anything is possible.”

After dinner, May searched for books about space and astronauts. She even made her own astronaut costume out of old curtains and cardboard boxes. Later, she asked her dad how to become an astronaut.

He reassured her, “You will find your way, May. If you dream it, believe in it, and work hard for it, anything is possible.”

That night, May had a happy dream. She was dancing in space, surrounded by sparkling stars, and below her, she could see Earth floating like a shining crystal ball.

The next morning, May excitedly told her parents about her dream. Her eyes lit up with excitement every time she talked about it.

In the classroom, Miss Belle asked everyone to share their dreams for the future. May said, “I want to be an astronaut!” But some kids laughed, and Miss Belle suggested she consider being a nurse instead.

May felt disappointed on her way home. She looked out the car window, feeling blue and cold. When she got home, she started crying.

Her mother comforted her, saying, “Don’t let anyone stop you from following your dreams, May. You can go to space!”

May promised, “When I get to space, I will wave to you and Dad from the spaceship!”

Her mother encouraged her, “Always remember: If you can dream it, believe in it, and work hard for it, anything is possible.”

May kept dreaming, believing, and working hard, and guess what? She went to space and waved to her mom and dad on Earth.

It just goes to show that if you dream it, believe in it, and work really hard for it, anything is possible!

I hope this helps!
