Hello, friends! Today, we’re going to have a fun story time together. Are you ready? Let’s go!
Our story today is called “No, David!” and it was written by David Shannon. It’s all about a little boy named David who gets into all sorts of mischief. Let’s see what he does!
David’s mom often says, “No, David!” because he gets into trouble. One time, David tries to reach for cookies on a high shelf. Oh no, that’s not safe! He might fall and get hurt.
Another time, David makes a big splash in the bathtub. Water goes everywhere! It’s like he’s a sea captain on a big adventure, but he needs to be careful not to make a mess.
David also likes to play with his food, but food is for eating, not playing. His mom reminds him to eat his broccoli and carrots. Yum!
Sometimes, David doesn’t put his toys away. It’s important to clean up after playing so we don’t trip and fall.
Even though David gets into trouble, his mom always loves him. At the end of the day, she gives him a big hug and says, “I love you, David!”
David’s story teaches us to listen to our parents and be careful. It’s okay to have fun, but we should always try to be safe and tidy up after ourselves.
Thank you for joining us for story time! If you enjoyed “No, David!” and want to hear more stories, make sure to come back next time. Have a great day, and remember to always listen and be safe!
Cookie Jar Challenge: Let’s pretend to be like David reaching for cookies! Set up a safe obstacle course at home using pillows or cushions. Ask an adult to place a small toy or object on a high shelf (within safe reach). Can you find a safe way to get it without climbing? Talk about why it’s important to ask for help when something is too high.
Bathtub Splash Experiment: Fill a small basin with water and gather some toy boats or floating objects. Gently place them in the water and see how they float. What happens when you make waves with your hands? Discuss why it’s fun to play with water but also important to keep it in the tub to avoid making a mess.
Food Fun Art: Use different colored fruits and vegetables to create a fun picture on your plate. Arrange them to make a face or a simple shape. Talk about how food is for eating, but it can also be fun to make it look nice before we eat it. Remember to eat your healthy creations afterward!

Hot dog! Today’s book is “No, David!” by David Shannon. Let’s get started!
“No, David!” by David Shannon. David’s mom always said, “No, David!”
Tick-tack-toe, crayon—no, David! That is very dangerous; he should not be up there.
Cookies? Yeah, but he could fall!
Cookies, injury, cookies, hospital, cookies, cast—cookies!
Now, David! No, no, no, no! Oh my gosh, that’s going to cause so much water damage!
Craig, he’s a sea captain; he’s on a very important mission! Look at everything that’s going on! There’s a mine following him, there’s a shark in his hand—what’s he going to do? That duck is clearly in trouble, and his battleship is going to sink! This could be a big insurance deductible!
His battleship’s going to sink!
Craig, come back here! David, it’s a—but seriously, he needs to put some clothes on; it’s inappropriate!
Craig, it’s summertime; he’s going to the swimming hole!
David, be quiet! Don’t play with your food; food is not a toy; it’s for sustenance!
I disagree, Craig; he just made a best friend from scratch!
That’s enough, David! Broccoli, carrots—go to your room!
Superhero, settle down! Stop that this instant!
Oh, that’s so disgusting! I mean, use a tissue, right? Right, yeah, definitely use a tissue!
Are you putting your toys away? Bulldozer, robot—join us! Or keyboard—we mean spaceship, not in the house, David!
Whoa, David, you’re going to hurt yourself or break something!
Hurt himself? He’s wearing a mask!
Or break something—like what I said! No, David!
Or break something—I’m pretty sure that was already broken!
Craig, no! Wasn’t!
David, come here!
Yes, David?
I love you!
Huh, that was really touching!
Okay, Craigie, come here!
[Music]
No, David!
