In today’s story time, we explored the adventures of Pete the Cat, who joyfully embraced changes to his shoes’ colors after stepping in various substances like strawberries, blueberries, and mud. Throughout his experiences, Pete maintained a positive attitude, singing about his shoes regardless of their color. The lesson emphasizes the importance of resilience and staying happy in the face of challenges, encouraging us to keep singing our own song.
  1. What did Pete the Cat do when his shoes changed colors?
  2. How did Pete feel about his shoes, even when they got dirty?
  3. What can we learn from Pete about being happy and having fun?

Welcome to Story Time!

Hello, friends! Today, we’re going to have fun with a story about a cool cat named Pete. Are you ready? Let’s go!

Pete the Cat and His White Shoes

Pete the Cat had some brand new white shoes. He loved them so much that he sang a happy song:

“I love my white shoes, I love my white shoes, I love my white shoes!”

Oops! Strawberries!

Oh no! Pete stepped in a big pile of strawberries. What color did his shoes turn?

That’s right, they turned red! But did Pete cry? No way! He kept walking and sang:

“I love my red shoes, I love my red shoes, I love my red shoes!”

Oh No! Blueberries!

Next, Pete stepped in a pile of blueberries. What color did his shoes turn now?

Yes, they turned blue! But did Pete cry? Nope! He kept walking and sang:

“I love my blue shoes, I love my blue shoes, I love my blue shoes!”

Uh-oh! Mud!

Then, Pete stepped in some mud. What color did his shoes turn?

That’s right, they turned brown! But did Pete cry? No way! He kept walking and sang:

“I love my brown shoes, I love my brown shoes, I love my brown shoes!”

Splash! Water!

Finally, Pete stepped in a bucket of water. All the colors washed away. What color were his shoes now?

Yes, they were white again, but they were wet! Did Pete cry? No way! He kept walking and sang:

“I love my wet shoes, I love my wet shoes, I love my wet shoes!”

The Happy Lesson

The story of Pete the Cat teaches us that no matter what happens, we can keep going and stay happy. Just like Pete, we can sing our own song and have fun!

Thanks for joining us for story time! Remember, it’s all good!

  • What do you think Pete the Cat was feeling when his shoes changed colors? Have you ever had something unexpected happen to you? How did you feel?
  • If you were Pete and your favorite shoes changed colors, what song would you sing to stay happy? Can you make up a little song about it?
  • Why do you think Pete didn’t cry when his shoes got dirty or wet? Can you think of a time when you stayed happy even when things didn’t go as planned?
  1. Color Mixing Experiment: Let’s explore how colors change just like Pete’s shoes! Gather some water, red, blue, and brown food coloring, and three clear cups. Fill each cup with water and add a few drops of one color to each cup. Mix different colors together to see what new colors you can create. Can you make the colors of Pete’s shoes? What happens when you mix all the colors together?

  2. Shoe Adventure Walk: Take a walk outside and pretend you are Pete the Cat. Look for things that could change the color of your “shoes” (you can imagine or use colored paper cutouts). What colors would your shoes turn if you stepped in grass, sand, or puddles? Share your adventure with a friend or family member and sing your own happy shoe song!

  3. Story Time Drawing: Draw a picture of Pete the Cat with his colorful shoes. Use crayons or markers to color Pete’s shoes in red, blue, brown, and white. Can you draw something that Pete might step in to change the color of his shoes? Share your drawing with the class and tell the story of Pete’s colorful adventure!

Hi, I’m Ryan Leod, and I’m Craig Tovy. Welcome to Story Time with Ryan Leod and Craig Tovy! Today’s book is “Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes,” art by James Dean, story by Eric Litwin.

Hey Ryan, you were wearing a button-up shirt earlier. What happened?

I spilled hot chocolate on it, and I’m super sad.

Well, this is just the book for you then!

Really?

Yeah, let’s get started!

“Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes,” art by James Dean, story by Eric Litwin.

Pete the Cat was walking down the street in his brand new white shoes. Pete loved his white shoes so much, he sang this song:

[Music]

“I love my white shoes, I love my white shoes, I love my white shoes, white shoes!”

Oh no! Pete stepped in a large pile of strawberries. What color did it turn his shoes?

Yellow?

No, think about it!

Pink?

What color are strawberries?

Red!

Did Pete cry? Goodness, no! He kept walking along and singing his song.

“Everything is cool! I love my red shoes, I love my red shoes, I love my red shoes, red shoes!”

Oh no! Pete stepped in a large pile of blueberries. What color did it turn his shoes?

Yellow?

Ryan, that’s what you said before!

Okay, blue!

I knew it! Remember when you said yellow and bananas?

No!

Did Pete cry? Goodness, no! He kept walking along and singing his song.

“Awesome! I love my blue shoes, I love my blue shoes, I love my blue shoes, blue shoes!”

Oh no! Pete stepped in a large puddle of mud. What color did it turn his shoes?

Yellow?

No, think of mud!

Brown!

Did Pete cry? Goodness, no! He kept walking along and singing his song.

“Groove! I love my brown shoes, I love my brown shoes, I love my brown shoes, brown shoes!”

Oh no! Pete stepped in a bucket of water, and all the brown and all the blue and all the red were washed away. What color were his shoes again?

Yellow?

Pink?

What did we start with?

White!

I knew it! White! Right, but now they were wet. Did Pete cry? Goodness, no! He kept walking along and singing his song.

“Rock and roll! I love my wet shoes, I love my wet shoes, I love my wet shoes!”

The moral of Pete’s story is no matter what you step in, keep walking along and singing your song because it’s all good.

So Ryan, did that help you out with your shirt problem?

It did! I feel much better, and I’m still happy about the shirt I have on. I’m going to sing my own song. Do you want to know what it’s called?

Please tell me!

“Yellow, pink, bananas!”

I wish I’d never heard that again!

Well, thanks for watching Story Time with Ryan Leod and Craig Tovy! We’ll see you next time!

Groovy!
