Pete and his dad step outside. The wind makes the leaves dance, and Pete sees something in the tree. “Oh, it’s just an owl,” Pete says. “That’s not too spooky!”
They walk to a neighbor’s house, and Pete rings the doorbell. “Trick or treat!” he says. The door opens, and it’s Callie! She’s not spooky at all. Callie joins Pete and his dad for more trick-or-treating fun.
At the next house, Pete sees something in the yard. “Phew, it’s just a scarecrow,” he says. Pete and Callie ring the doorbell. “Trick or treat!” they say. Mrs. Gold, the crossing guard, opens the door. “Happy Halloween!” she says. “Your costumes are awesome!”
Suddenly, they hear a noise behind them. “What was that?” asks Callie. “Oh, it’s just our friend Emma,” Pete says. “Not spooky, but groovy!”
“One last house, then we’ll go home,” says Pete’s dad. Pete rings the doorbell. “Yikes! A spooky ghost!” Pete shouts. But it’s not a ghost—it’s Grandma! She gives them treats and hugs.
