Hello, friends! Today, we’re going to talk about a funny story called The Pigeon Needs a Bath by Mo Willems. It’s all about a silly pigeon who really needs to get clean!
Oh no! The pigeon is very dirty! He has dirt all over his wings. Do you think he needs a bath? I think so!
The pigeon doesn’t want to take a bath. He says he feels clean, but we can see he’s not! He tries to say he doesn’t smell, but there are flies buzzing around him. Silly pigeon!
Finally, the pigeon agrees to take a bath. But wait! The water is too hot, then too cold, then too deep, and then not deep enough. The pigeon is being very picky!
At last, the pigeon gets in the tub. Splash! He starts to wash and play with bubbles. Guess what? He loves it! He has so much fun that he doesn’t want to get out!
Now the pigeon wants to stay in the bath forever. Isn’t that funny? Baths can be so much fun with bubbles and toys!
Taking a bath is important to stay clean and healthy. It can also be a lot of fun, just like it was for the pigeon!
Thanks for joining us for Storytime with Toby! We hope you enjoyed learning about the pigeon and his bath adventure. See you next time!
Bath Time Experiment: Let’s explore what makes a bath fun and clean! Fill a small tub or basin with water and add some bubbles. Bring a few of your favorite waterproof toys and see how they float or sink. Try washing a toy and notice how it looks and feels before and after. Talk about why it’s important to wash things to keep them clean, just like the pigeon!
Smell Detective: Become a smell detective! Gather a few items with different scents, like a lemon, a flower, or soap. Close your eyes and have someone hold an item under your nose. Can you guess what it is by its smell? Discuss how smelling nice is part of being clean and why the pigeon needed a bath to smell fresh.
Bath Time Art: Create a picture of your dream bath! Use crayons, markers, or paints to draw a bathtub filled with bubbles, toys, and maybe even a rubber duck. Think about what makes bath time fun for you. Share your artwork with a friend or family member and explain why you think baths are important, just like the pigeon learned.
I’m Craig Tobey, and welcome to Storytime with Toby! Today’s book is *The Pigeon Needs a Bath* by Mo Willems.
Whoa, the pigeon is filthy! I could use your help because the pigeon really needs a bath.
That’s a matter of opinion, right? Just give a dirty pigeon a bath!
No problem, here we go! Okay, what a getup! I don’t really need a bath.
Yeah, but your wings are filthy! You’re definitely getting a bath.
Come on, you might like it! I took one last month.
From scratch to clean—those are just words, right?
Yeah, but they mean very specific things. You’re dirty, and you need a bath to become clean.
You are getting a bath, 100%!
Hmm, I feel clean. Maybe you need a bath!
Wow, okay buddy, don’t turn this around on us.
I’ve never seen a clean pigeon. I don’t know what “clean” and “dirty” are in Pigeon, but you look dirty.
Maybe you shouldn’t…
Oh, you’re getting a bath! That’s what’s happening—case closed!
When was the last time you had a bath?
Uh, this morning, duh!
Right, is that when you had a bath? Last Tuesday after the pigeon?
You’re getting in!
Oh, that was pretty recently. Life is too short to waste on unimportant things like taking a bath.
What smell? I don’t smell anything!
And if I do, it’s a very normal smell for a pigeon.
You know, in some places, it is impolite to bathe.
What places? I’ve never heard of this!
I will admit, I don’t know pigeon culture very well, so I don’t know what’s polite or not.
Maybe we should just let him be.
I don’t want him to be made fun of by his friends.
Yeah, and if he’s happy, I’m happy!
No, no, you gotta bathe!
Oh, you’re getting a bath, stinky pigeon!
Now all these flies buzzing around me are purely coincidental.
Yeah, let’s get out of here! Take a bath, dude!
Okay, fine! If it means so much to you, I’ll take a bath.
Great, awesome!
What was all the fuss about?
Don’t worry, he’s gonna take a bath now.
Whoa, I’m not gonna like this one bit! The water is too hot, too cold, too lukewarm—what?
Not enough toys, too many toys, too deep, not deep enough, too cold, now it’s too hot again!
Oh, that is still too hot. Well, I guess this is okay.
So, are you gonna get in or not?
Splash! Hey, this is fun!
Wash, wash, wash!
I say it in the tub—this is the life! I love bubbles!
Look at me! Ten hours later…
Can I stay in the tub forever?
Oh no, you want to stay in the tub?
You know what? Fine! We’re leaving! You stay in your bath—live in the bath for all we care!
Enjoy it! We’re out of here! Peace, pigeon!
The pigeon needs a bath!
Well, thanks for watching Storytime with Ryan and Craig! We’ll see you next time!
Ryan, have you really not had a bath since last Tuesday?
Craig, I will take one tomorrow morning!
I will take 110!
And there we go! [Music]
