In “Creepy Carrots,” Jasper the rabbit becomes convinced that the carrots he loves are following him and causing mischief, leading him to build a fence to keep them in place. However, the clever carrots escape, showing that sometimes our fears can be unfounded and that we may not have control over everything. In “Creepy Pair of Underwear,” Jasper’s excitement over a pair of spooky underwear turns into a humorous struggle as they keep reappearing despite his attempts to get rid of them, ultimately teaching him that facing fears with courage can lead to personal growth.
  1. What did Jasper think about the carrots at first?
  2. How did Jasper feel when he saw the creepy underwear glowing?

Creepy Carrots

Once upon a time, there was a rabbit named Jasper. Jasper loved carrots more than anything else! The best carrots grew in a place called Kraken Hopper Field. They were big, crunchy, and free for anyone to take. Jasper would grab some carrots on his way to school, before his baseball games, and even on his way home. He just couldn’t get enough of them!

But one day, something strange happened. Jasper thought the carrots were following him! “How can carrots follow someone?” he wondered. “Are they alive?”

After a big game, Jasper heard a spooky sound behind him. It sounded like carrots creeping! He turned around, but nothing was there. “It’s just my imagination,” he thought, but he started hopping home a little faster.

That night, while brushing his teeth, Jasper thought he saw the carrots again! He turned quickly, but there was nothing. He laughed at himself and went to bed.

The next morning, Jasper went back to Kraken Hopper Field. He picked some carrots, and nothing happened. “Creepy carrots? That’s silly!” he said to himself.

But when he got home, he yelled, “Mom! There are creepy carrots in the shed!” His mom looked, but there were no carrots. “There’s no such thing as creepy carrots,” she said.

Later, in bed, Jasper heard breathing. He saw a shadow on the wall—it looked like a carrot! He called for his dad. They checked everywhere, but there were no creepy carrots. “Just a bad dream,” his dad said.

Jasper was seeing creepy carrots everywhere! He decided to make a plan. On Saturday, he went to Kraken Hopper Field with supplies. He built a big fence and a moat to keep the carrots in the ground. His plan worked! No more creepy carrots!

But the carrots had their own plan. They dug a tunnel and escaped! They were happy because Jasper wouldn’t bother them anymore. Those carrots were very clever!

Jasper Rabbit needed new underwear. His mom took him to the store and picked plain white ones. But Jasper saw something cool—creepy underwear! They were spooky but comfy.

“Mom, can we get these?” Jasper asked. “They’re not creepy; they’re cool!”

His mom agreed to buy one pair. That night, Jasper wore them to bed. “Do you want the light on?” his dad asked.

“No, I’m a big rabbit now,” Jasper said. But when the lights went out, the underwear glowed green! Jasper was surprised. He tried to ignore it and went to sleep.

The next day, he found the creepy underwear back on him! He threw them away, but they kept coming back. Jasper even sent them to China, but they returned with chopsticks!

Finally, Jasper used his mom’s scissors to cut them up. He checked everywhere, and they were gone. He felt brave and happy.

Jasper learned that sometimes things can be a little scary, but with courage, he could handle anything. And he was proud of himself for being a big rabbit!

  • Jasper thought the carrots were following him. Have you ever imagined something was following you or felt scared of something that wasn’t really there? What did you do to feel better?
  • Jasper built a fence and a moat to keep the carrots in the ground. Can you think of a time when you made a plan to solve a problem? What was your plan, and did it work?
  • Jasper’s creepy underwear kept coming back to him. Have you ever had something that you thought was a little scary but turned out to be fun or cool? How did you change your mind about it?
  1. Carrot Hunt: Go on a carrot hunt in your kitchen or garden! With the help of an adult, find some real carrots. Look at their shape, color, and size. Can you draw a picture of a carrot and describe it? Imagine if your carrot could talk or move, what would it say or do?

  2. Story Time with a Twist: Create your own version of “Creepy Carrots” using toys or drawings. What if the carrots were friendly instead of creepy? What would they do with Jasper? Share your story with your family or friends and see what new adventures Jasper and the carrots can have together!

  3. Shadow Play: Use a flashlight to make shadows on the wall. Can you create a shadow that looks like a carrot or something else from the story? Try making different shapes and see if your family can guess what they are. Think about how Jasper might have felt seeing shadows at night. How do shadows change when you move the light closer or farther away?

Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

Jasper Rabbit had a passion for carrots, and the carrots that grew in Kraken Hopper Field were the best—fat, crisp, and free for the taking. He pulled some for a morning snack on the way to school, yanked out a few on his way to Little League practice, and ripped them from the ground on his way home at night. Jasper couldn’t get enough carrots. He liked carrots—good for him! Free carrots! Nothing could go wrong here… until they started following him.

“What? How are the carrots following him? Are they alive?”

“Run, Jasper, go!”

He first noticed something strange after the big game against East Valley. Jasper was about to help himself to a victory snack when he heard it—the soft, sinister sound of carrots creeping. He turned, but there was nothing there. “Just my imagination,” he thought, but he hopped a little faster.

That night, as he was brushing his teeth, there they were! Jasper whipped around, but nothing. He laughed at himself, picked his toothbrush off the floor, and went to bed quickly.

The next morning, he approached Kraken Hopper Field slowly. He reached for two wild carrots. Nothing happened. He bit into one. Nothing happened. “Creepy carrots? It was ridiculous!” Oh well, looks like we’re all back to normal. Just my imagination running away with me…

But when he arrived home that evening, he screamed, “Mom! Creepy carrots in the shed!” His mom opened the door slowly. There weren’t any carrots, not even the regular kind. “There are no such things as creepy carrots,” Mom said, shaking her head.

Later that night, as Jasper lay in bed, he heard it—breathing. Terrible breathing. And there on his wall… a creepy carrot! He shouted, “Dad! Dad!” His dad thumped into his bedroom and turned on the light. They searched under the bed—no creepy carrots. They looked through the closet—no creepy carrots. They opened the dresser drawers—no creepy carrots. “Just a bad dream, son,” his dad said, shaking his head. “Now go to sleep.”

That wasn’t going to happen. “Hey Ryan, I just thought of this. Do you want to spend the night at my house?”

“Yes! I’m never going to sleep again! You don’t have any carrots in your house, do you?”

“No, I don’t think so.”

By the end of the week, Jasper was seeing creepy carrots everywhere. He knew his parents were wrong—creepy carrots were real, and they were coming for him. But they couldn’t get him if they couldn’t get out.

“It’s not a bad idea. How do we keep the carrots in the ground? We could put a blanket on them, build a cement pad over them, cast a spell… ooh, we could hope they don’t come out!”

Jasper hatched a plan. First thing on Saturday, he grabbed supplies and headed to Kraken Hopper Field. “Trap the carrots! Tie a string around them! Trap the carrots! Saw up some wood! Create a big moat, fill it with water! Build a large hammer to smash the carrots!”

As the sun finally set across Kraken Hopper Field, Jasper Rabbit smiled on his way home. There was no tunk-tunk-tunk. There were no carrot-shaped shadows. His plan had worked! No creepy carrots would ever get out of that carrot patch again.

As the sun finally set, the carrots of Kraken Hopper Field escaped, dug a tunnel, and called their mom. They cheered— their creepy plan had worked! They were sure of it: Jasper Rabbit would never get into that carrot patch ever again. Those carrots were very clever!

Jasper Rabbit needed new underwear. On Thursday, Mom took him to the underwear store and grabbed the last three packages of plain white. But as they headed for the checkout, Jasper spotted them—creepy underwear! So creepy, so comfy—they were glorious!

“Mom, can we get these?” Jasper pleaded.

“I think they’re a little too creepy,” said Mom.

“They’re not creepy; they’re cool!” said Jasper. “I’m not a little bunny anymore; I’m a big rabbit now!”

Mom agreed to buy one pair. “Well, you’re a grown rabbit. You can buy whatever kind of underwear you want now, even if it’s those terrifying ones.”

That night, Jasper wore his cool new underwear to bed. “Do you want me to leave the hallway light on?” asked Dad.

“Dad, I’m not a little bunny anymore,” said Jasper.

His dad shut the door, and that’s when Jasper noticed the underwear glowed a ghoulish green. “This is not what was advertised!”

He closed his eyes, pulled up the covers, and buried his face in his pillow, but it didn’t help. He could still see that ghoulish green glow. Jasper leapt out of bed and put on a pair of plain white underwear. He stuffed the creepy underwear into the bottom of his laundry hamper and finally fell asleep.

But when he got up the next day, he was wearing the creepy underwear! “How’d they get on? I put them at the bottom of my hamper!”

Jasper threw them into the garbage can. He was still a big rabbit; he wasn’t scared or anything, but he was done with scary underwear.

After school, Jasper was doing his homework when he heard it—a scratchy scraping sound coming from his dresser. He opened the drawer, and they were back, staring at him with that ghoulish green glow. “Get rid of them!”

He snatched the creepy underwear out of the drawer, grabbed a big envelope and some stamps, and sent them to China. “Bye-bye, scary underwear!”

But when he opened the front door the next morning, there they were! And were those chopsticks? His creepy pair of underwear had somehow returned from China and brought back souvenirs!

Jasper grabbed his mom’s good sewing scissors. She didn’t like him using them, but this was an underwear emergency! This time, the creepy underwear were gone for good.

At bedtime, he slowly opened his underwear drawer—nothing, just plain white undies. He searched under his bed, shook out his lampshades—no sign of creepy underwear. He went into the bathroom to comb his ears— they were back!

“What’s the matter with you?” his mom asked. “You’re so jittery lately.”

“Nothing! A grown rabbit couldn’t be terrified of his underpants!”

Jasper couldn’t take it anymore. He ran straight to the toilet and threw the crayon in. It just floated there, spinning slowly. It did not look happy to see him.

That evening, Tales from the Carrot Patch was on, but Jasper studied for his spelling test. His eyes kept darting to his pencil case—no creepy crayon. He flung the toilet lid up—no creepy crayon. He got into bed, nervously watching his walls—no creepy crayon.

During the test, Jasper spelled “ocean” wrong but spelled “courage” right. He got a C+—it was glorious! It wasn’t an A, but it was his. He headed home from school that day, finally feeling free.
