Today’s Special Book

Today, we’re reading a book just for Lauren Lemieux’s class. It’s called “If Kids Ruled the World” by Linda Bailey, with pictures by David Quick. Let’s dive into this fun story!

Imagine a World Where Kids Are in Charge

If kids were the rulers of the world, every single day would be like your birthday! You’d get to eat birthday cake, and your doctor would say, “Eat your cake to grow big and strong!”

There would be no bedtime! Beds would be for jumping, and pillows would be for pillow fights. Making the bed? No need for that!

Scaring Monsters and Wearing Fun Clothes

If kids ruled, the monster in your closet would be scared of you! You could sneak up and shout “Boo!” and the monster would faint!

You could wear anything you want—a t-shirt, a tutu, or even a fancy suit. You could even wear your underwear on your head if you felt like it!

Traveling in Style

Want to go somewhere? You’d have your own special ride! Maybe a bicycle, a helicopter, or even a big balloon! For long trips, you could sail on a pirate ship!

Adventures in Your Backyard

Every yard would have a lake with frogs to catch and rafts to ride. There’d be a dock for diving and a secret island to explore. Follow a map, and you might find treasure!

No more baths needed—the lake is your bath! But if you want bubbles, you can have a bathtub big enough for all your friends!

Treehouses and Secret Schools

Every yard would have a tree with a treehouse. You’d have a rope ladder to pull up behind you, keeping your secret diary safe. No one could come in unless you said so!

You could go to any school you like—circus school, fairy school, or even inventing school. Many kids would choose recess school!

A World Full of Fun

If kids ruled, sidewalks would be trampolines, cars would be ponies, and dinosaurs would live in the park. Everyone would remember how to play, even if they were 106 years old!

Imagine a big marching band with people of all ages playing instruments and having fun!

What a Wonderful World!

If kids ruled the world, it would be amazing!

  • What would be the first thing you would change if you were in charge of the world? Why do you think that change would be fun or important?
  • Imagine you could have any kind of special ride, like a pirate ship or a big balloon. What would you choose and where would you go on your adventure?
  • If you could create your own school, what kind of school would it be and what fun things would you learn there?
  1. Design Your Dream World: Imagine you are in charge of the world, just like in the story. Draw a picture of what your world would look like. What fun things would you have? Would there be special places to play or exciting rides to travel on? Share your drawing with the class and explain why you chose those things.

  2. Monster Scare Game: Let’s play a game where you pretend to scare away imaginary monsters. Use your imagination to think of different ways to make the monsters run away. You can use funny faces, silly dances, or loud noises. After the game, talk about how it felt to be brave and scare away the monsters.

  3. Backyard Adventure Hunt: Go on a mini-adventure in your backyard or a nearby park. Look for interesting things like rocks, leaves, or bugs. Use a small notebook to draw or write about what you find. Can you imagine these items being part of a treasure map? Share your discoveries with your family or friends and tell them about your adventure.

Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

Thank you so much for sending us today’s book; we can’t wait to read it! Today’s book is “If Kids Ruled the World” by Linda Bailey, illustrated by David Quick. Let’s get started!

If kids ruled the world, every day would be your birthday. Birthday cake would be good for you, and your doctor would say, “Don’t forget to eat your birthday cake so you’ll grow up strong and healthy.”

If kids ruled the world, there’d be no such thing as bedtime. Beds would be for bouncing on, and pillows would be for pillow fights. No one would ever make a bed—what’s the use of that?

This is awesome! Kids rule the world!

If kids ruled the world, the monster in your closet would be scared of you. Anytime you wanted, you could sneak up and yell “Boo!” You’d hear a scream and then a thump—that would be your monster fainting!

You could wear anything you like—a t-shirt, a tutu, or even a tuxedo. You could even wear your underwear on your head, not that you’d want to!

If you felt like going somewhere, you’d have your own thingamajiggy to get there. You could have a bicycle, a theme copter, or even a balloon! If you wanted to travel a long way, you could take a pirate ship!

Yes, this is awesome! You can travel anywhere!

If kids ruled the world, every yard would have a lake with frogs for catching and rafts for riding, a dock for diving, and a mysterious island to swim to. What would you find if you followed a map? X marks the spot for treasure!

You’d never have to take a bath again—that’s what the lake is for! But if you felt like taking a bath, you could have all the bubbles you wanted and a bathtub big enough for all your friends.

Every yard would have a tree, and every tree would have a treehouse. Every treehouse would have a rope ladder to pull up behind you. You could keep your secret diary there with your secret codes. You wouldn’t even have to use invisible ink because no one could come in unless you said so.

You could go to any kind of school you like—circus school, fairy school, inventing school. Lots of kids would go to recess school!

If kids ruled the world, all the sidewalks would be trampolines, all the cars would be ponies, and dinosaurs would live in the park. No one would ever forget how to play, not even if they turned a hundred and six years old and lost all their teeth. There’d be plenty of play for everyone!

Wow, what a marching band with people of all ages and instruments walking down the road!

If kids ruled the world, it would be great!
