Welcome to Story Time!

Hello, friends! Today, we’re going to have a fun story time. Are you ready? Let’s jump into a story about Pete the Cat and his missing cupcakes!

Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes

Once upon a time, Pete the Cat and his friend Gus were very busy. They were making yummy cupcakes for a party. They counted the cupcakes and had ten in total. But oh no! Some cupcakes were missing!

The Mystery Begins

Pete and Gus counted the cupcakes again. Now there were only eight! Who could have taken them? They found some sprinkles on the ground. Gus thought it might be Squirrel because she loves sprinkles.

But Squirrel said, “It wasn’t me! I’ve been at the spelling bee.” So, it wasn’t Squirrel.

More Cupcakes Disappear

Uh-oh! Even more cupcakes were missing. Now there were only six. Pete and Gus were puzzled. They found another clue and thought it might be Alligator because he loves to eat.

But Alligator said, “It wasn’t me! I’ve been learning my ABCs.” So, it wasn’t Alligator.

Where Did the Cupcakes Go?

Oh dear! Now there were only four cupcakes left. Pete thought it might be Turtle because Turtle loves sweets.

But Turtle said, “It wasn’t me! I’ve been swimming in the sea.” So, it wasn’t Turtle.

The Big Surprise

All the cupcakes were gone! Pete and Gus were very confused. Then they found Grumpy Toad with icing on his face. They solved the mystery!

Grumpy Toad said, “I’m so sorry! I ate all the cupcakes. I couldn’t stop!”

A Happy Ending

Pete and Gus decided to give Grumpy Toad another chance because that’s what friends do. Grumpy Toad was so happy, he did a little dance!

At the party, Grumpy Toad brought lots of cupcakes for everyone. It was a fun night for all!

The Lesson

The story teaches us that everyone makes mistakes, and it’s important to give our friends another chance. Being kind and forgiving makes everyone happy!

Thank you for joining us for story time! We hope you had fun. See you next time!

  • What would you do if you found out someone ate your cupcakes? How would you feel, and what would you say to them?
  • Have you ever lost something important to you, like Pete and Gus lost their cupcakes? How did you find it, or what did you do about it?
  • Why do you think it’s important to give someone another chance when they make a mistake, like Pete and Gus did with Grumpy Toad?
  1. Cupcake Counting Game: Let’s practice counting just like Pete and Gus! Gather some small objects like buttons or blocks. Pretend they are cupcakes. Count out ten “cupcakes” and then take some away. How many are left? Try different numbers and see if you can solve the mystery of the missing cupcakes each time!

  2. Detective Adventure: Become a detective like Pete and Gus! Look around your home or classroom for clues. Maybe you can find something that is missing or out of place. Use your detective skills to figure out what happened. Remember to ask questions and think about where things might have gone!

  3. Forgiveness Role Play: Practice being kind and forgiving like Pete and Gus. With a friend or family member, take turns pretending to make a mistake, like accidentally knocking over a block tower. Practice saying, “It’s okay, let’s try again!” and give each other a hug or high-five. Talk about how it feels to forgive and be forgiven.

I have something to say, Craig. I’m more of a pie person; I’m not really into cake. Frosting is too sweet.

Today’s book is “Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes” by Kimberly and James Dean. Let’s get started!

Pete and Gus were as busy as could be; they were getting ready for the cupcake party that started at three. They were making cupcakes for everyone. Pete and Gus counted them just for fun. They had ten when they were done.

Oh no! Hang on, some of the cupcakes were gone. They were sure there had been ten. Pete said, “Maybe we need to count again.”

They counted the cupcakes lined up straight. Now there were only eight. It looked like someone had taken two, but who? Pete and Gus did not know what to do. Just then, they found a clue. Gus said, “Look what I’ve foundโ€”sprinkles on the ground! I bet it was Squirrel; she loves sprinkles.”

Squirrel said, “It wasn’t me! It couldn’t be; I’ve been at the spelling bee.”

Uh-oh! More cupcakes are missing! Come and see! This was too weirdโ€”two more cupcakes had disappeared. Now there were only six. Someone must be playing tricks, but who? Pete and Gus did not know what to do. Just then, they found another clue.

Pete said, “I bet it was Alligator; he loves to eat.”

Alligator said, “It wasn’t me! It couldn’t be; I’ve been learning my ABCs.”

Uh-oh! More cupcakes are missing! Come and see! Now there were only four. Someone had taken two more, but who? Pete and Gus did not know what to do. Just then, they found another clue.

“I bet it was Turtle,” said Pete. “I know Turtle loves sweets.”

Turtle said, “It wasn’t me! It couldn’t be; I’ve been swimming in the sea.”

Uh-oh! More cupcakes are missing! Come and see! What on Earth was going on? All the cupcakes were now gone. Pete and Gus did not know what to do. They started looking for another clue.

They found Grumpy Toad with icing on his face. Pete and Gus had solved the case!

“I’m so sorry! It was me. I could not stop with just one. I ate and ate till there were none.”

Grumpy Toad would have to miss the fun; he could not come after what he had done. But Pete said, “Wait! Grumpy Toad made a mistake; this is true. Let’s give him a second chance; that’s what friends do.”

Pete told Grumpy Toad they would give him another chance. He was so excited he did a happy dance!

The night of the party was so much fun. Grumpy Toad brought more than enough cupcakes for everyone!

So, Ryan, I guess the moral of the story is that if you’re ever missing something and you’re with your friends, what you need to do is find Grumpy Toad because the clues will likely lead to him. You find Grumpy Toad, you find what you’re missingโ€”case closed!

Thanks again for watching Story Time, everyone! We’ll see you next time!
