Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum: Let’s Draw Brad!

Hello, friends! I’m Chris Eliopoulos, and I love to draw. I helped create a fun show called Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum with my friend Brad Meltzer. Brad is a writer, which means he makes up stories and writes them down. Today, I’m going to show you how to draw a character named Brad from our show. Are you ready to have some fun?

Step 1: Start with the Letter “C”

First, let’s draw the letter “C.” This will be one of Brad’s ears. It’s like drawing a little curve on the side of the paper.

Step 2: Add a “U” Shape

Next, draw a “U” shape right under the “C.” This will be Brad’s face. It’s like a smiley face without the eyes and mouth!

Step 3: Draw the Other Ear

Now, let’s draw another little round shape on the other side for Brad’s other ear. Great job!

Step 4: Make the Head

To make Brad’s head, draw a big half-circle over the top, connecting the ears. It’s like a rainbow!

Step 5: Add the Nose

For Brad’s nose, draw a backwards “C” in the middle of his face. It’s like a tiny curve.

Step 6: Eyes and Eyebrows

Let’s give Brad some eyes by drawing two dots. Then, add some eyebrows above the eyes. Now Brad can see!

Step 7: Draw the Glasses

Brad wears glasses, so let’s draw little rectangles around his eyes and connect them with lines. Now he looks smart!

Step 8: Give Him a Smile

Draw a big smile with a half-circle. Inside the smile, draw a circle and a line through it. Brad is happy!

Step 9: Add Some Hair

Even though the real Brad doesn’t have hair, let’s draw a little line on top of his head. It’s fun to imagine!

Step 10: Draw a Cape

Brad is like a superhero, so let’s give him a cape! Draw a half-circle and a straight line down. Now he’s ready to fly!

Step 11: Finish with the Body

Draw the rest of Brad’s body. You can make him look like he’s ready for an adventure!

Step 12: Sign Your Artwork

Finally, add your name to your drawing. This shows that you are a great artist!

Thank you for drawing with me today! Keep practicing and have fun creating your own stories and pictures. Remember, you can be an artist like me or a writer like Brad. Have a wonderful day, and see you next time!

  • What was your favorite part of drawing Brad, and why did you like it? Can you think of other things you like to draw?
  • Brad wears glasses and has a cape like a superhero. If you could add something special to your drawing of Brad, what would it be and why?
  • Chris and Brad work together to create stories and drawings. Have you ever worked with a friend to make something? What did you create together?
  1. Character Creation: Now that you’ve learned how to draw Brad, try creating your own character! Start with simple shapes like circles, squares, and triangles. Think about what your character might like to do. Does your character have a special talent or a favorite hobby? Draw your character doing something fun and share your drawing with a friend or family member.

  2. Story Time: Just like Brad Meltzer writes stories, you can create your own story about Brad or your new character. Think about an adventure they might go on. Where would they go? What would they see? Write a short story or tell it out loud to someone. Remember, every story is unique, just like you!

  3. Observation Walk: Go on a walk with a family member and look for shapes in the world around you. Can you find objects that look like the shapes you used to draw Brad? Maybe a tree looks like a “U” or a cloud looks like a big half-circle. Draw or describe what you see and how it reminds you of the drawing steps you learned.

Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

**Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum**

Hey campers! I’m Chris Eliopoulos, the illustrator of the Ordinary People Change the World series, as well as the co-creator of Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum with my good friend Brad Meltzer. Today is a little bonus episode, and I thought I’d tell you a bit about my friend Brad Meltzer. Brad is a writer, so his job is to sit in a room and dream up stories and write them down.

If you notice on Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum, there is a character also named Brad. So, as a little tribute to our good friend Brad, we’re going to draw him! I want everyone to learn how to draw Brad so that when the time comes, you can show him your drawing and have a good laugh.

I’m ready to draw, so here we go! Our first step in drawing Brad is to draw the letter “C.” Let’s do a little letter “C” here.

Next, we’re going to draw a little “U” shape underneath. Now, let’s draw the other ear by making a little round shape on the other side. Now, we’re going to draw the head by going up over the top with another half-circle.

Okay, now for Brad’s nose, we’ll draw a backwards “C” in the middle of his face. Then, we’ll add a couple of dots for his eyes and some eyebrows. Next, we’re going to draw some glasses for him with little rectangular shapes and lines.

Now, let’s give him a big smile! We’ll do a little half-circle down here and then draw a circle in the middle and a line through it. You can fill this in because, in real life, Brad has no teeth; he adds them on afterward.

Finally, we’re going to draw some hair for him. We’ll just draw a little line. The real Brad has no hair, but we decided to give him some as a kid because he wanted it. Then, let’s give him a little cape. We’ll do a half-circle and a straight line down.

Now, let’s draw his body. Finally, let’s add a little signature or autograph so when you give Brad your picture, you can sign it and let him know that you’re a great artist!

Thank you for watching! I hope you keep drawing every single day, and if you’re not an artist like me, try writing like Brad. Have a good day, and we’ll see you next time!
