Hello, my fun-loving reading friends! Are you ready for a story? Today, we’re going to meet a very special giraffe who learns something important about being yourself. Let’s read “The Giraffe Who Found Its Spots” together!
Once upon a time, there was a giraffe who felt lonely. He wanted to make friends, but he thought he needed to be like other animals to fit in. So, he tried to be like the monkeys, but they just swung away. He tried to run fast like the cheetahs, but they ran away too. He even tried to hide his head in the sand like the ostriches, but they flapped away.
The giraffe tried to curl like the elephants, but they didn’t want to play. He tried to show the rhinos his horn, but they just charged away. He even stood on one leg like the flamingos, but they flew away. The giraffe felt sad and thought, “Why doesn’t anyone like me?”
Then, a wise voice told the giraffe, “You’re trying too hard to be someone you’re not. Try being yourself, and others will like you for who you are. Being different is what makes you special. Wear your spots with pride!”
That night, there was a big party. The giraffe decided to go. Everyone was having fun, singing and dancing. But it was so dark! If only someone could reach the branches to let in the moonlight.
The giraffe said, “I got this!” He stretched his long neck and moved the branches. The moonlight shone down, and the party was even more fun! Everyone thanked the giraffe and said, “It must be great being so tall and having a long neck.”
The giraffe realized, “It is pretty great! I don’t need to be someone else to fit in. I am special just the way I am.” And from that day on, the giraffe was happy being himself.
I hope you enjoyed our story today. Remember, you are special just the way you are! See you next time!
Spot the Difference: Let’s play a game called “Spot the Difference.” Draw a picture of yourself and then draw another picture where you try to look like someone else. Share your drawings with the class and discuss what makes each picture special. What do you like about being yourself?
Animal Parade: Pretend to be different animals like the giraffe did in the story. Try walking like a monkey, running like a cheetah, or standing like a flamingo. After trying each animal, talk about what makes each one unique. Then, think about what makes you unique and share it with a friend.
Special Talent Show: Just like the giraffe used his long neck to help at the party, think about something special you can do. It could be singing, drawing, or even telling a funny joke. Share your special talent with the class and celebrate what makes each of you unique.

“The Giraffe Who Found Its Spots” by Addison Books.
It’s hard being a giraffe. I stick out wherever I go. I tried to fit in with the other animals to make friends, but they just laughed at me. I tried to show the monkeys that I have a tail like them, but they just swung away from me. I tried to show the cheetahs that I had spots like them and could run really fast, but they just ran away from me. I tried to show the ostriches that I could stick my head in the sand like them, but they just flapped away from me. Is anybody out there? I tried to show the elephants that I could curl like them, but they wanted nothing to do with me. I tried to show the rhinos that I had a horn like them, but they just charged into me. I tried to show the flamingos that I could stand like them, but they just flew away from me. It’s hopeless; no one wants to be my friend. I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Why doesn’t anyone like me?
You’re trying too hard to be someone you’re not. Try being yourself, and they will like you for who you are. Being different is what makes you special. Wear your spots with pride, and you will find your way in life.
But what if no one likes me for being different?
There is a big party tonight; you should come too! You’ll feel better.
Wow, this party is so much fun! Everyone is doing their part to make it great. The animals continue to sing and dance late into the night. It’s getting so dark I can barely see. If only someone could reach the branches overhead to let in the moonlight.
I got this!
Wow, the party is incredible now with the moonlight shining down. This has been the best party ever, thanks to you!
It must be great being so tall and having a long neck.
It is pretty great! You don’t need to be someone you’re not just to fit in or make friends. You are special just the way you are.
I hope you enjoyed our story today. See you next time!
