Hello, my reading friends! Welcome to a fun story time. Do you like stories where things go missing? Today, we’re going to read about Susie and her sneaky cat, Pirate, in “Susie’s Shoes Go Missing.” Let’s see what happens!
Susie woke up excited to play at the park. She wanted to wear her red sandals, but oh no! One sandal was missing. Susie looked everywhere and found it hiding behind a chair. Pirate, her cat, was pretending to sleep nearby. Silly Pirate!
It was a stormy day, and Pirate was scared of the thunder. Susie wanted to wear her pink slippers to read a book, but one slipper was gone! She found it under a book. Pirate was there to help, jumping around and being funny.
It was raining, and Susie needed her rain boots to splash in puddles. But one boot was missing! She thought maybe a mouse took it. With Pirate’s help, she found it between some blocks. What a sneaky boot!
Susie was ready for ballet class, but one of her white ballet shoes was missing. Pirate was playing with his toy, and Susie heard a noise. She found her shoe next to the wall. Pirate was having fun with his toy and the shoe!
Susie was going to a tea party and wanted to wear her shiny shoes. But one shoe was missing again! She saw Pirate’s shadow and found the shoe under his pillow. Pirate was playing a shoe hiding game! Susie laughed and told Pirate, “No more tricks!”
Susie had a fun-loving cat named Pirate who loved to hide her shoes. What a silly cat! Susie always found her shoes with Pirate’s help. Do you have a pet that likes to play games too?
Let’s say hello to some of our reading friends from around the world:
Thank you for joining our story time! I hope you enjoyed Susie’s adventure. See you next time for more fun stories!
Shoe Hunt at Home: Just like Susie, you can have a shoe hunt at home! Ask a family member to hide one of your shoes somewhere in the house. Then, go on a fun adventure to find it. Can you find your shoe faster than Susie did? Remember to check behind chairs, under books, and between blocks, just like Susie!
Create a Sneaky Cat Story: Imagine you have a sneaky pet like Pirate. Draw a picture of your pet hiding something special. Then, tell a story about how you found it. What did your pet hide? Where did you find it? Share your story with a friend or family member.
Observation Game: Next time you’re outside, pretend you’re Susie looking for her shoes. Look around and notice where things might be hiding. Can you find a leaf hiding under a rock or a bug hiding behind a flower? Share what you find with your classmates or family.
Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

“Susie’s Shoes Go Missing,” written by Susan Johnson and illustrated by Emily Cull.
Susie’s favorite thing to do is line her shoes up two by two. Her cat, Pirate, curls up and pretends to sleep.
**Monday:** Susie woke up like a spark and yelled, “Let’s go play at the park!” She got up quickly, jumped out of bed, and said, “I’ll wear my red sandals.” Pirate stood beside her, hissing. Susie saw one sandal missing. “Where is my sandal?” Susie cried, searching her room. By Pirate’s side, she tiptoed behind the chairs. She asked, “What’s my sandal doing there?” With red sandals on her feet, she carried Pirate across the street.
**Tuesday:** Sounds of thunder filled Pirate with dread, so he jumped up on Susie’s bed. “Let’s cuddle up and read a book. I’ll wear my pink slippers.” She flashed the light around her room, but her slipper was gone. Something went “boom!” Pirate looked over the edge. “Why did my books fall off the ledge?” Susie said, “Is that what I think?” Under the book was the color pink. Pirate came to the rescue once more; he screeched and jumped to the floor.
**Wednesday:** They awoke to a gray, wet morning. The raindrops on the roof gave warning. “I’ll wear my rain boots, make a dash, and the puddles will jump and splash.” One boot was gone! “It can’t be true! My boots protect me from the rain. It’s not beside my painted rocks or in the drawer with my socks. It must be a thief, perhaps a mouse sneaking around inside my house.” Once more, she followed Pirate’s cue and found it between two blocks. Who knew?
**Thursday:** Susie woke up early that day to find her white shoes for ballet. Why was Pirate nowhere around and only one shoe to be found? She put on her tights and pink tutu but could not find her other shoe. Down the hall, Susie heard a noise. Pirate was playing with his toy. “Pirate, help me look for my shoe! I’m starting to feel sad and blue.” Pirate rolled his ball down the hall to a ballet shoe next to the wall.
**Friday:** On her way to a tea party, Susie did not want to be tardy. Her shiny shoes would match her dress. “Good grief, one is missing!” This shoe thief was very sly. Then, from the corner of her eye, Pirate’s shadow came into view. Above his pillow, another clue! Susie hid beside her bed to spy on Pirate before he fled. Something shiny between his teeth! She saw him shove it underneath. Susie snatched up her shoe with relief. “It was Pirate, you little thief! That sneaky cat, true to his name, playing his silly shoe hiding game.” Wearing her shiny shoes, she said goodbye and yelled, “No more tricks, don’t even try!” But hiding shoes was so much fun; Pirate’s not ready to be done.
Susie sure had a fun-loving cat who liked to hide her shoes.
