The story follows five little monkeys as they prepare for bed, only to have fun jumping on the bed, leading to a series of mishaps that teach the importance of safety and the consequences of their actions. Ultimately, the monkeys learn to settle down and go to sleep after their adventurous antics.
  1. What did the monkeys do to get ready for bed?
  2. Why did the doctor say “No more monkeys jumping on the bed?”

Welcome to Story Time!

Hello, friends! I’m Ryan, and this is my buddy Creek Toby. We love sharing stories with you! Today, we’re going to read a fun book called “Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed” by Eileen Christelow. Are you ready? Let’s begin!

Getting Ready for Bed

Once upon a time, it was bedtime for five little monkeys. They took a nice bath to get all clean. Then, they put on their cozy pajamas. After that, they brushed their teeth until they were sparkly and clean. Brushing teeth is so important!

Jumping on the Bed

After saying goodnight to their mama, the five little monkeys started jumping on the bed. Oh no! That’s not safe, but it sure is fun!

Oops! One Monkey Falls

One little monkey fell off the bed and bumped his head. Mama called the doctor, and the doctor said, “No more monkeys jumping on the bed!”

Four Monkeys Left

Now, four little monkeys were jumping on the bed. But then, another one fell off and bumped his head. Mama called the doctor again, and the doctor said, “No more monkeys jumping on the bed!”

Three Monkeys Jumping

Then, three little monkeys were left jumping on the bed. One more fell off and bumped her head. Mama called the doctor, and the doctor said, “No more monkeys jumping on the bed!”

Two Monkeys Having Fun

Two little monkeys kept jumping on the bed. But, oh no, one fell off and bumped his head. Mama called the doctor, and the doctor said, “No more monkeys jumping on the bed!”

One Last Monkey

Finally, one little monkey was jumping on the bed. She fell off and bumped her head. Mama called the doctor, and the doctor said, “No more monkeys jumping on the bed!”

Time to Sleep

After all that jumping, the five little monkeys were very tired. They fell fast asleep. Sweet dreams, little monkeys!

  1. Have you ever had a bedtime routine like the five little monkeys? What do you do to get ready for bed?
  2. Why do you think the doctor kept saying, “No more monkeys jumping on the bed”? Can you think of other fun activities that are safe to do before bedtime?
  3. What do you think the monkeys might dream about after all that jumping? Have you ever had a funny or exciting dream?
  1. Monkey Safety Dance: Let’s learn about safety while having fun! Pretend to be the monkeys from the story. Jump around in a safe space, like a soft carpet or a mat. When you hear “Stop!” freeze and think about why it’s important to be careful when playing. Can you come up with other safe ways to have fun without getting hurt?

  2. Counting Monkeys: Use five small toys or cut-out paper monkeys to act out the story. As each monkey “falls off the bed,” count how many are left. Can you count backwards from five to zero? Try creating your own story with different animals or toys and practice counting them too!

  3. Bedtime Routine Chart: Create a bedtime routine chart with pictures or drawings. Include steps like taking a bath, putting on pajamas, and brushing teeth. Talk about why each step is important for a good night’s sleep. Can you think of other things you do before bed that help you relax and get ready to sleep?

Hey, I’m Ryan Lagarde and I’m Creek Toby, and welcome to Story Time with Ryan! Remember, if you like what you see, click subscribe, give us a like, or leave a comment. You can ask us anything!

Ryan, have you ever slept on a bed? I’ll answer in the comments. Today’s book is “Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed” by Eileen Christelow. Let’s get started!

“Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed” by Eileen Christelow. It was bedtime, so five little monkeys took a bath. Five little monkeys put on their pajamas. Five little monkeys brushed their teeth. Teeth brushing is awesome; my teeth are so clean!

Five little monkeys said goodnight to their mama, then five little monkeys jumped on the bed. Oh, that’s not good! You’re not supposed to do that, but it’s so fun!

One fell off and bumped his head, so mama called the doctor. The doctor said, “No more monkeys jumping on the bed!”

So four little monkeys jumped on the bed. That was a fluke! What else can go wrong? One fell off and bumped his head, so mama called the doctor. The doctor said, “No more monkeys jumping on the bed!”

Yeah, we should be careful. I think I see a pattern!

So three little monkeys jumped on the bed. One fell off and bumped her head. Mama called the doctor, and the doctor said, “No more monkeys jumping on the bed!”

So two little monkeys jumped on the bed. One fell off and bumped his head, so mama called the doctor. The doctor said, “No more monkeys jumping on the bed!”

I’m telling you, it won’t end well! Just because it happened to you and all the other monkeys doesn’t mean it’s going to happen to me. I guarantee you, there’s only one way to find out!

So one little monkey jumped on the bed. She fell off and bumped her head. Mama called the doctor, and the doctor said, “No more monkeys jumping on the bed!”

So five little monkeys fell fast asleep. Thank goodness!
