  1. What is your favorite kind of music to play or listen to?
  2. Can you tell me about a fun time you had with your pets?
  3. What words do you like to read or write with your friends?

Let’s Have Fun with Stories and Words!

Playing Music Together

Guess what? I have a drum! My friend said the flute is for you to play. We can make music together in a band. It’s so much fun! Do you like music too?

My Cute Dogs

Have you seen my dogs? One is white, but her paws are black. They love to cuddle with me when I go to sleep. They even sleep on my bed. Yay!

Exciting Gifts

Look at all the gifts! There’s a ball for her and a bat for him. Up there by the box, there’s some tape. I can write words from all of us. This will be fun! You did it!

Playing with Dogs

I came to see what you were doing. I saw your little dog playing with you. If you use this toy, she can play just like my dog. You can play with it even when I’m not here. Maybe she needs a little nap now. I’ll see you when your dog wakes up.

The Big Red Bug

Look at the bug! It’s big, red, and fat. I did it! Yay!

The Happy Doll

The doll can bake cakes and hide. She has a big smile on her face. She’s in a box with a note. She’s so cute and fun. I did it! Yay!

Clothes and Birds

Her shirt is worn, and her skirt is torn. The scarf is in the dirt. A bird is on her arm. I did it! Yay!

Meet the Digraphs!

Phonics is fun! When you know how to read words, you can read words like “new,” “catch,” and “shout.” Sound them out and ask a friend questions by writing a note. Check her answer to see what she wrote. Look for digraphs when you read a book. It’s easy to find them if you just look!

Meet the Blends!

If you want to read, practice your blends. Make a club about phonics and swap books with your friends. Try to spell words and flip through a book. You can make a craft, glue treasures, and cook. Bring a snack and something to drink. Ask great questions and have time to think.

Time to Go!

It’s time to go now! Grab your scarf and hat. Bring your stool and leap over the mat.

  • What kind of music do you like to listen to or play? Do you have a favorite instrument, and why do you like it?
  • Do you have any pets or know someone who does? What fun things do you like to do with them, or what have you seen others do?
  • Have you ever received a special gift or given one to someone else? What made it special, and how did it make you feel?
  1. Make Your Own Band: Gather some simple instruments like a drum, a flute, or even homemade instruments like a shaker made from a container filled with rice. Encourage the children to form a band and create their own music. Ask them to think about how different sounds can come together to make a song. Can they play a song that tells a story?

  2. Story Time with Puppets: Use puppets or stuffed animals to act out the stories from the article. Let the children choose a story, like “My Cute Dogs” or “The Happy Doll,” and use their toys to bring the story to life. Ask them to think about how the characters in the story feel and what they might say. How do the characters’ actions change the story?

  3. Digraph and Blend Hunt: Give the children a simple book or a page from a magazine and ask them to find words with digraphs (like “sh” in “shout”) and blends (like “bl” in “blend”). Provide a list of digraphs and blends to help them. Encourage them to sound out the words and think about how these sounds help us read. Can they find a word with a digraph or blend in their favorite book?

Watch for digraphs when you read a book. It is easy to find them; you just have to look.
