In the lesson “Counting Fun with Turtles,” children engage in counting activities using turtles and flowers to enhance their numerical skills. They learn to count both turtles and the corresponding number of flowers needed to feed them, reinforcing the concept of one-to-one correspondence. The lesson encourages exploration of counting in everyday life, promoting a playful approach to learning numbers.
  1. How many turtles did we count together?
  2. What do the turtles like to eat?
  3. How many flowers do we need for the turtles?

Counting Fun with Turtles!

Hey there, friend! Are you ready to have some fun with numbers and turtles? Let’s get started!

Counting Stones

Look at these stones. Let’s count them together: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Wow, guess what? They are not just stones; they are turtles!

Hungry Turtles

These turtles are very hungry. Do you know what they love to eat? Flowers! Let’s pick some flowers for our turtle friends.

How Many Flowers?

We need to pick one flower for each turtle. Let’s count the turtles again: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. So, we need five flowers to make all the turtles happy!

Let’s Count Again!

Counting is so much fun! You can count anything around you, like toys, books, or even your fingers. Try it and see how many you can count!

Thanks for counting with me today. See you next time for more fun with numbers!

  • What are some things you like to count at home or outside, just like we counted the turtles and flowers?
  • If you could choose any animal to count, what would it be and why? How many of them would you like to count?
  • Can you think of a time when you had to count something to help someone, like picking flowers for the turtles? What did you count, and how did it help?
  1. Turtle Parade: Gather some small toys or objects at home, like blocks or stuffed animals. Pretend they are turtles and line them up in a parade. Count them together: 1, 2, 3, and so on. Can you make a parade with 10 turtles? What about 15? Try arranging them in different shapes and count again!

  2. Flower Hunt: Go on a flower hunt in your garden or a nearby park. Pick some flowers (or use paper ones if you can’t pick real ones) and match them to the number of turtles you have. If you have 5 turtles, find 5 flowers. Can you find more flowers than turtles? How many extra flowers do you have?

  3. Counting in Nature: Next time you go for a walk, look for things you can count, like birds, trees, or cars. How many can you find? Try counting something new each time you go out. Share what you counted with a friend or family member and see if they can find the same number of things!
