Have you ever wondered where most of the energy on Earth comes from? It all starts with the Sun! Even though the Sun is more than 140 million kilometers away, it gives us enough light and heat to brighten our days and keep us warm.
Plants are amazing because they use sunlight to make their own food through a process called photosynthesis. This is how they grow and stay healthy. When animals and people eat plants, they get the energy that plants have stored from the Sun.
Besides helping plants grow, the Sun’s energy can also be turned into electricity. This is done using special tools called photovoltaic cells. These cells take sunlight and change it into electrical energy that we can use to power our homes and gadgets.
To make even more electricity, many photovoltaic cells are put together to form solar panels. These panels can be placed on the roofs of buildings to provide electricity for homes. Sometimes, large groups of solar panels are set up in sunny areas to make electricity for entire towns and cities.
Solar energy has some great benefits! Sunlight is a renewable resource, which means it won’t run out. Plus, using solar energy doesn’t create pollution, so it’s better for our planet.
However, there are some challenges too. Solar panels need a lot of space and can be expensive to install. Also, they might not produce as much electricity on cloudy days.
