Ancient Egyptian Adventure – History for Kids

Welcome to a magical journey through time! Are you ready to explore the past? Today, we’re going to learn all about ancient Egypt. Let’s meet Emily and Jay, two curious kids who were feeling a bit bored. Their dad was a famous scientist who worked in a secret lab. One day, they decided to sneak in and see what he was up to.

Inside the lab, they found a strange machine with lots of buttons. It was their dad’s new invention—a time machine! Without thinking, Emily and Jay stepped inside. Jay accidentally pulled a lever, and suddenly, the machine began to speak. “Hello, children! I’m Timezor. You’ve turned me on, so now we must travel through time together. Buckle up; we’re heading to Egypt over 2,000 years ago, the time of the great pharaohs!”

Meeting Cleopatra

When they arrived, Jay saw a woman sitting on a throne being carried by men. “Who is that?” he asked. Emily replied, “That’s Cleopatra, the pharaoh of Egypt. The Egyptians worked really hard to build amazing pyramids.”

Jay was curious and asked Cleopatra, “Why do you have such a big house just for you?” Cleopatra smiled and said, “Dear child, this isn’t just a house. It’s a pyramid—a special place where pharaohs are buried when they pass away. They are embalmed and placed here forever.”

Jay thought for a moment and said, “I don’t want to be a pharaoh. I think I’d rather be a farmer or a merchant and travel on the Nile River.”

Life in Ancient Egypt

Cleopatra was the last queen of ancient Egypt. She was not only beautiful but also very smart. She could speak seven languages and inspired many artists and writers. When important Egyptians like the Pharaoh died, their bodies were carefully embalmed. This meant they were cleaned, perfumed, wrapped in bandages, and placed in a wooden coffin to keep them safe for a long time.

The Mighty Nile River

The Nile is the longest river in Africa and was super important in ancient Egypt. Thanks to the river, people could grow food and transport goods and people. In ancient Egypt, doctors were very skilled. Each doctor treated different illnesses, knew a lot about the body, made medicines, and even had tools for operations.

Timezor then said, “Jay, Emily, it’s time to continue our journey. Are you ready to discover more exciting times from the past? Click on the box to keep traveling through time!”

And with that, their adventure continued, full of new discoveries and fun!

  1. What do you think it would be like to travel back in time like Emily and Jay? If you could visit any time in the past, where would you go and why?
  2. Cleopatra was a queen who could speak seven languages. Why do you think it might have been important for her to know so many languages? Can you think of a time when knowing another language could be helpful?
  3. The Nile River was very important to the people of ancient Egypt. Can you think of a river or a place near your home that is important to your community? What makes it special or useful?
  1. Create Your Own Time Machine: Use a cardboard box and art supplies to create your own time machine. Decorate it with buttons, levers, and anything else you think a time machine should have. Once it’s ready, pretend to travel to ancient Egypt. What would you like to see or do there? Share your adventure with your family or friends.

  2. Build a Mini Pyramid: Gather some building blocks or use sugar cubes to construct a mini pyramid. As you build, think about why the ancient Egyptians built pyramids and how they might have done it without modern tools. Discuss with a friend or family member what you learned about pyramids from the story.

  3. Explore the Nile River: Draw a picture of the Nile River and the activities that might have happened around it in ancient Egypt. Include boats, farmers, and merchants. Think about why the Nile was so important to the people of ancient Egypt. Share your drawing and explain its significance to someone at home.
