Let’s Learn About Opposites!

Did you know that learning about opposites can be super fun? Let’s explore some opposites together with cute characters! Are you ready?

Hot and Cold

When the sun is shining, we feel hot! But when it snows, we feel cold! Brrr!

Big and Small

Imagine a giant elephant. It’s big! Now, think of a tiny mouse. It’s small!

Spiky and Smooth

A cactus is spiky, but a balloon is smooth! Can you think of something else that’s smooth?

Long and Short

A giraffe’s neck is long, while a bunny’s tail is short! What other things are long or short?

Light and Heavy

A feather is very light, but a rock is heavy! Try lifting a feather and a rock to see the difference!

Colorful and Black and White

A rainbow is colorful, but a zebra is black and white! Can you draw something colorful?

Together and By Myself

When we play with friends, we are together. When we read a book alone, we are by ourselves.

Front and Back

The front of a train is where the engine is, and the back is where the caboose is! Can you find the front and back of your toy train?

Full and Empty

A full glass of juice is full, but when we drink it all, it’s empty!

Square and Round

A box is square, and a ball is round! What other things are square or round?

Sad and Happy

When we lose a toy, we might feel sad. But when we find it again, we feel happy!

More Opposites!

Let’s think of more opposites: sunny and nighttime, dark and daylight. Opposites are everywhere!

Learning about opposites can make us smile, not frown. Smile and frown are opposites too! Keep exploring and have fun learning!

  • Can you think of a time when you felt hot or cold? What were you doing, and how did it make you feel?
  • What are some big things and small things you see around you every day? Why do you think some things are big and others are small?
  • Have you ever played with something smooth or spiky? What was it, and how did it feel to touch?
  1. Opposite Hunt: Go on a scavenger hunt around your home or classroom to find pairs of opposites. For example, look for something big and something small, or something hot and something cold. Share what you find with your friends or family!

  2. Opposite Art: Create a drawing that shows two opposites. You could draw a picture of a sunny day on one side of the paper and a nighttime scene on the other. Use lots of colors for the sunny side and darker colors for the nighttime side. Display your artwork and explain the opposites you chose!

  3. Feel the Opposites: Gather objects with different textures, like a spiky pinecone and a smooth pebble. Close your eyes and feel each object. Can you guess which is which? Talk about how they feel different and what other opposites you can think of that you can touch.
