Julia’s Adventure to Pancake Peak

One morning, Julia woke up to see a beautiful sunrise. It was the perfect day for an adventure! She decided to hike to a place called Pancake Peak. Julia loved exploring on her own, and she was ready for the journey.

As she walked through Muffin Meadow, she saw lots of colorful wildflowers. Then, she explored the dark and mysterious Black Coffee Cave. Next, she carefully crossed Bacon Bridge, balancing bravely. Julia climbed up Hash Brown Hill super fast and stopped for a quick picnic all by herself. She was almost at Pancake Peak!

When Julia reached Pancake Peak, she enjoyed the peaceful view all around her. But suddenly, she heard some noisy creatures. They were arguing and noticed Julia. A little pack rat named Vince asked for help, and a javelina named Fitz, who had broken glasses, joined in. A scared porcupine named Violet was there too. Julia was surprised and thought there was a mistake. She told them she needed to be home for dinner.

Vince explained that they were stuck. Violet said they could get to the peak, but now they couldn’t see to get back. Fitz complained that his backpack was too heavy. They asked if they could go with Julia.

Helping New Friends

Even though Julia liked being alone, she decided to help her new friends get back safely. The three animals were so happy and excited! They all had a sunny picnic together at Hash Brown Hill. Julia found snacks in Fitz’s backpack, and after eating, Fitz could carry it himself.

When they reached Bacon Bridge, they saw it was broken. But Fitz said they could still cross it. Violet suggested they keep moving because Black Coffee Cave was getting darker. Julia realized she lost her headlamp, but Fitz used his strong sense of smell to guide them through the cave to Muffin Meadow.

They came across a trap, but Violet bravely protected her friends. Then they smelled something yummy, and Julia realized it was dinner at her house. They made it just in time!

Dinner with Friends

As they sat down for dinner, Julia heard a knock at the gate. She was happy to have a feast with all her new friends, just the way she liked it.

  • Julia went on an adventure to Pancake Peak and met some new friends along the way. Have you ever gone on an adventure or a trip where you met someone new? What was it like, and did you make any new friends?
  • Julia helped her new friends when they needed it. Can you think of a time when you helped someone or when someone helped you? How did it make you feel?
  • Julia and her friends had to work together to solve problems, like crossing the broken bridge. Can you think of a time when you worked with others to solve a problem? What did you do, and how did you work together?
  1. Map Your Adventure: Create a simple map of Julia’s journey to Pancake Peak. Use colored pencils or crayons to draw Muffin Meadow, Black Coffee Cave, Bacon Bridge, Hash Brown Hill, and Pancake Peak. Label each place and draw a path showing Julia’s route. Think about what you might see, hear, or smell in each location. Share your map with a friend and explain why you chose those details.

  2. Pack Your Backpack: Imagine you are going on an adventure like Julia. What would you pack in your backpack? Find a small bag and fill it with items you think are important for a hike. You might include a snack, a flashlight, or a map. Explain to a family member or friend why each item is important for your journey.

  3. Animal Helpers: Julia met some animal friends on her adventure. Think about an animal you would like to have as a helper on your journey. Draw a picture of your animal friend and write a short story about how they help you on your adventure. What special skills do they have? How do they make your journey easier or more fun?

**Transcript:**

Julia wakes up to a beautiful sunrise. It’s the perfect day to hike up to Pancake Peak. The air is fresh, and Julia is prepared, traveling by herself, just the way she likes it.

As she buzzes through the wildflowers in Muffin Meadow, she spelunks through the depths of Black Coffee Cave and balances bravely across Bacon Bridge. Julia crests Hash Brown Hill in record time and has a quick picnic for one. It’s just a little farther until she reaches the turnaround at Pancake Peak. The panorama at Pancake Peak is perfectly peaceful; she has it all to herself.

Suddenly, a band of bickering creatures disturbs the silence. They notice Julia. A tiny pack rat asks for help, and a javelina, squinting and fiddling with broken glasses, interrupts. A frightened porcupine joins in. Julia backs away, thinking there’s been a misunderstanding. She explains she needs to be home in time for dinner.

The pack rat, named Vince, explains they’re stranded. Violet, the porcupine, says getting to the peak was fine, but now they can’t see. Fitz, the javelina, complains about his heavy pack. They plead to tag along with Julia.

Though this is not how Julia likes it, she agrees to help them return safely to the base of Pancake Peak. The relieved trio squeals with glee and breaks for a sunny group picnic at Hash Brown Hill. Julia discovers snacks in Fitz’s pack, and after they eat, he can carry it himself.

They realize Bacon Bridge is broken, but Fitz reassures them that they can manage. Violet suggests they keep moving as Black Coffee Cave is getting darker. Julia gasps when she realizes she lost her headlamp. Fitz, who can’t see but has a keen sense of smell, leads them through the cave to Muffin Meadow.

They encounter a trap, but Violet defends her friends. They smell delicious food, and Julia realizes it’s dinner at her house, and they are right on time.

As they sit down to dinner, Julia hears a knock at the gate. Tonight, she is feasting with all her new friends, just the way she likes it.
