Fun Art Projects with Jeremy

Hey there! I’m Jeremy, and today we’re going to have some fun with art and a little bit of science. I love playing jokes on my dad, so I came up with a funny project to surprise him. Let’s get started!

Surprise Picture with Hairy Legs

First, let’s make a silly picture with hairy legs. We’ll need some recycled chopsticks, a piece of cloth, and two pictures. One picture is of my dad, and the other is a secret picture of hairy legs.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Glue the secret picture of hairy legs to the cloth.
  • Use chopsticks as weights by taping them to the cloth. This helps the picture unroll quickly.
  • Tape the secret picture to the back of the main picture and roll it up.
  • Make a lock using a twist tie and two pipe cleaners. Twist them into loops and tape them to the picture and cloth.
  • Slide a pencil through the loops to keep the picture in place. When you pull the pencil out, the hairy legs will be revealed!

It’s a fun way to add a surprise to your favorite picture!

Magic Light Gloves

Now, let’s make some magic light gloves! You’ll need an LED light, two watch batteries, and an old pair of gloves.

Here’s how to make them:

  • Take two watch batteries and tape them together, making sure one side is positive and the other is negative.
  • Attach the LED light wires to each side of the batteries. It should light up!
  • Slide the light and batteries into the fingertip of a glove. If needed, cut a small hole for the light to poke through.

Now you have magic gloves that light up! Show them off to your friends and amaze them!

Weaving with Snack Bags

Let’s get creative with some shiny snack bags. We can turn them into a colorful weaving project!

Here’s what to do:

  • Cut open and clean the snack bags. Then cut them into strips.
  • Create a weaving frame using a cardboard box lid.
  • Tape long strips onto the frame and weave smaller strips over and under them.
  • Once finished, tape the edges with colorful duct tape to hold it together.

This weaving can become a placemat or a cover for your drawing book. It’s a fun and colorful art project!

Art Safety Tip

Remember, when using glue, be mindful of which way the wind is blowing to avoid any sticky situations!

Artzooka Recycle Challenge

For my recycle challenge, I used a canister, a protractor, and a recycled plastic bottle to create something special. Can you guess what it is? It’s a time machine!

I challenge you to make something creative using a canister and a protractor. Take a picture of your creation and share it with us at the Artzooka website.

What will you create today? Let your imagination run wild!

  • What was your favorite art project from Jeremy’s video, and why did you like it? Have you ever made something similar at home or school?
  • Jeremy used recycled materials for his projects. Can you think of some items at home that you could recycle into an art project? What would you make with them?
  • If you could create a surprise picture like Jeremy’s, who would you surprise, and what funny or silly picture would you hide behind the main picture?
  1. Observe and Create: Look around your house for items that can be recycled into art projects. Can you find any old magazines, cardboard boxes, or plastic bottles? Use these materials to create your own surprise picture or magic light gloves. Think about how you can use everyday items in new and creative ways. Share your creation with your family and explain how you made it.

  2. Art Detective: Go on a scavenger hunt to find different textures and colors in your home or garden. Collect small items like leaves, fabric scraps, or paper. Use these items to create a textured collage. How do the different textures feel? How do the colors look together? Discuss with a friend or family member why you chose each item and what you like about your collage.

  3. Question Time: Think about the projects you learned from Jeremy. Why do you think using recycled materials is important for art projects? How does it help the environment? Write down your thoughts or draw a picture that shows how recycling can make the world a better place. Share your ideas with your class or family.

Here’s a sanitized version of the YouTube transcript:

Hey, I’m Jeremy! Let’s get started. My dad is really proud of this picture I made him, and he’s always pulling practical jokes on me, so I thought I would play one on him. Check out his hairy legs!

Okay, let’s make this. I’m going to use some recycled chopsticks for my trunk of junk and my two pictures to show you how easy it is to make this practical joke. I’ve used a bit of cloth and glued this secret picture of my dad’s hairy legs to the front.

Now, this needs to be a little heavy at the bottom so it will fall quickly when you’re ready to play your joke. The chopsticks will work great as weights. Now, place them on the cloth and fold it over, then tape it into place.

There we go! Now I need to tape the legs to the back of the picture. I’ll grab my tape and put a piece right here and a piece on the other side, then just roll it up to keep it in place. I can add a little twist tie right here, and I’ll show you how.

But first, I’ll just tape my secret picture of the legs to the picture so it doesn’t roll down while I’m working on it. I’ll take my twist tie and make a little loop, just like that, then tape it right to the picture.

Now I’m going to take a couple of pipe cleaners and twist them around like this. Once I have these loops, I want to attach them to the fabric. So again, with my tape, I’ll tape it right on there.

When you’re taping these pipe cleaners into place, make sure they’re not too far apart because we’re going to be using a pencil to hold these into place. You can use anything that makes a loop; string would work too.

If I take my pencil and slide it through all three loops, when I pull the pencil out, dad’s hairy legs will be revealed!

It’s easy to add legs to your favorite picture. Start off by making another picture of funny legs on a piece of paper and tape or glue it to some fabric. I taped a pair of chopsticks to the back of the leg picture to add some weight to the cloth. This helps your secret picture to unroll quickly.

Then I taped the secret picture to the back of the painting of my dad and rolled it up. You can use a bit of tape to hold the fabric in place while you work on it; just take it off when you’re done.

To keep the legs from falling until you want to reveal them, make a lock using a twist tie and two pipe cleaners. Twist each of them to form a loop, tape one onto your painting and the other two onto the back of the fabric. You put a pencil between them to hold your leg picture in place. Then when you pull the pencil out, it’s a hairy legs surprise!

We have lots more great ideas like this at artzooka.com.

With a little bit of scientific know-how and imagination, you can make magic! Check out my magic light gloves. Let’s make them! Start with an LED light that doesn’t flash. You’ll need two standard 1.5-volt watch batteries. Tape the two batteries together with masking tape, making sure one side has a positive sign and the other side doesn’t.

Once we have the two batteries together, put one wire from the LED on one side and one on the other. Look at that, it lights up! Tape it together, but keep one wire loose so that when you push down on it, it will touch the battery and the light goes on.

Now for the magic gloves! Start off with an old pair of gloves and slide the light and the batteries right into one of the fingertips. If the light doesn’t poke through the glove easily, you might need to cut a small hole in the fingertip.

Once you’ve made two of these, you can amaze your friends with your own magic light gloves! If you want to make your own magic gloves, this project is on our website at artzooka.com.

Now, let’s see what I can make from items found on a desk. I found sticky notes, clips, and elastics.

I know this looks like I’m snacking, but I’m actually making something! I’ve been collecting shiny snack bags from chips, crackers, and cookies. They are great for weaving.

First, I need to cut these bags open and clean them on the inside. Now, they can be kind of greasy, so maybe use some soap and water. Then I can cut them into strips.

To weave something, you’re going to need a frame. I’ve made a frame out of cardboard that I’ve taped together. Another easy way to make a frame is to use the lid of a cardboard box turned upside down.

Now, in order to weave, I’m going to need some longer strips. Here’s one right here. I can just tape that into place. Now I’ll add one more that fits my frame.

Once all the strips are in place, it’ll look like this. Now I get to weave! I’m going to use these smaller strips. To weave, I start by putting it over the first strip and under the second strip, and then I go over and under.

Once I’ve done this to the whole board, it’ll look like this. Now we have to take the weaving off the frame, so I’m going to add some duct tape to hold it together.

Once you’ve taped up all the sides and peeled it off, it’ll look like this. This would make a great placemat or you can fold it up and make a cover for your drawing book.

Weaving with chip bags is a colorful and delicious art project. After you wash the bags, you can cut them into strips and make them longer by taping them together.

You can make a frame for weaving by attaching some extra cardboard to a box. Tape strips onto the box, then take another strip and weave it into the tape strips.

When you’re finished, carefully pull up the edges of the strips and cover them with colorful duct tape. These weavings make great book covers, and once you really get the hang of it, you can even make something like an apron.

All of this is on our website too at artzooka.com.

And now, time for an art safety message: remember when using glue, it’s a good idea to keep in mind which way the wind is blowing.

For my artzooka recycle challenge, I challenged myself to make something out of a canister and a protractor. I also added a recycled plastic bottle.

Can you guess what it’s going to be? It’s a time machine!

I challenge you to make something out of a canister and a protractor. Be creative, anything goes! When you do, take a picture and email it to me at the artzooka website.
