Hi there! I’m Jeremy, and today we’re going to have some fun making art. I love painting on all sorts of things like paper, canvas, and even tin foil! How about we make a tin foil painting together?
First, we’ll need some tin foil. It’s a bit flimsy, so let’s stick it onto something strong like cardboard. I think I’ll make a cat today. Let’s draw a simple cat shape on the cardboard. Once you’re happy with your drawing, cut it out carefully.
Now, let’s give our cat a face! I used a paper plate to cut out a circle for the face. Then, I added eyes and a nose using more cardboard. I even added some strips for extra details. This cat is super happy, so I gave it a big smile!
What else does our cat need? How about some stripes? I added some extra strips to make it look more fun. For the background, I cut out some circles because I love how they look. You can use anything that makes your picture stand out, like craft foam or modeling clay. I’m using cardboard so when we add the tin foil, everything pops out nicely.
Let’s glue everything in place and wait for it to dry. Now, it’s time to add the tin foil! I mixed some glue with water and used a paintbrush to cover the whole picture with glue. Then, I placed the tin foil on top and rubbed it down. You can see the cat’s face and details through the foil!
You can use one big piece of foil or smaller pieces. If it tears, just glue another piece on top. Once the whole picture is covered in tin foil, it looks shiny and cool!
Now comes the fun part—painting! I added a drop of dish soap to some paint so it sticks to the tin foil. You can dab the paint on with a brush. Here’s a neat trick: use a cloth or paper towel to wipe away some paint. This makes the paint spread out and get trapped in the grooves, creating a cool effect. You can decide how much paint to wipe away. The more you wipe, the lighter it will be.
When you’re done, your painting will look amazing! I even made a frame from popsicle sticks, painted them black, and taped them to the back with a string to hang it up. It’s a magical piece of art!
If you want to make your own tin foil painting, start with a cardboard shape, like a cat. Add more cardboard pieces for decoration. Glue everything in place, then cover it with tin foil. Once it’s dry, paint it however you like. You can even make a frame for it!
Are you ready for another fun project? Let’s make rock sculptures! All you need are some rocks and your imagination. Stack them up to make a cool sculpture. It’s like a puzzle, figuring out how to balance them. It’s artistic and scientific!
For an art challenge, try making something out of a plastic bottle and a box of paints. I made a circus truck! Be creative and see what you can come up with. When you’re done, take a picture and share it with me!
What will you create today? Let’s have fun making art together!
Texture Hunt: Go on a texture hunt around your home or classroom. Find different objects with interesting textures, like a bumpy leaf, a smooth stone, or a rough piece of fabric. Bring them back and feel each one. Discuss how these textures might look if you covered them with tin foil. Can you imagine how the foil would show the bumps and grooves?
Foil Faces: Create a simple face using tin foil. Crumple a piece of foil into a ball and then gently flatten it out. Use your fingers to press and shape the foil into a face with eyes, a nose, and a mouth. What expressions can you make? Try making a happy face, a surprised face, or a sleepy face. Show your foil faces to your friends and see if they can guess the expression!
Color Mixing Experiment: Use a piece of tin foil as your palette. Mix different colors of paint on the foil and see what new colors you can create. Try adding a drop of dish soap to see how it changes the way the paint spreads. What happens when you mix red and blue? How about yellow and green? Share your favorite color combinations with the class!

Hey, I’m Jeremy! Let’s create some art! I love painting on just about anything—paper, canvas, and even tin foil! Today, let’s make a tin foil painting. Tin foil is great to work with, but it’s not very strong, so I’m going to put it on something sturdy, like cardboard. I think I’ll make a cat today, so let’s draw a simple cat shape. Once you have your cat shape drawn out and you’re happy with it, cut it out. When it’s cut, it’ll look like this.
I’m going to use both of these pieces of cardboard for our cat. Let’s give the cat a face! I took a paper plate and cut out a little circle to place down for the face. Now I’ll add eyes and a nose using some more cardboard, cutting it into shapes. I’ll also add some strips for extra detail. Of course, this cat is happy because I’m a great owner, so I’ll give it a nice big smile!
What else does this cat need? How about some stripes? I’ll add a few extra strips to the cat. I also cut out some circles for the background because I love working on that. You can add anything that raises up your picture—craft foam, modeling clay, all that works great. I’m using cardboard so that when I add the tin foil, everything that’s raised really pops.
Now we want to glue all of this into place, and when it dries, it’ll look something like this. Now we get to add the tin foil! I’ve got some glue mixed with water, and I’ll take my paintbrush and paint the glue on. You want to cover the whole thing with glue, and then it’s time for the tin foil. Lay the tin foil over the glue and rub it into place. When I rub over these cardboard shapes, you can see the mouth, nose, and eyes.
You can work with one big piece of foil or smaller pieces—whatever works best for you. If it tears, just glue another piece on top. Once I’ve covered the whole thing in tin foil, it’ll look something like this.
Now, I love painting on tin foil! I’ve added a drop of dish soap to some paint so it will stick to the tin foil. I can dab it on like this. I can paint the whole picture by dabbing, but here’s a cool trick: with some cloth or paper towel, wipe away some of the paint. When you do that, the paint spreads out and gets trapped in the grooves of the tin foil, which looks really cool. You can decide how much paint you want to wipe away—the more you wipe, the lighter it will be.
I’m going to wipe away paint from the flat parts of the picture and paint on the raised parts. When it’s done, it’ll look like this. I finished this one earlier, wiping away paint in some spots and leaving it in others. It makes it look like I used different colors, but it’s all just black paint.
Check out this frame—it’s made from popsicle sticks that I painted black. I taped them to the back and added a little string, so now I can hang it up. This painting is magical; it’s a work of art!
If you want to make one of your own, start with a piece of cardboard cut into the shape of a cat. You can add more cardboard pieces to decorate. Once you have your picture the way you like it, glue everything in place. To add the tin foil, paint the cardboard with glue and press the tin foil down. You can use big or small pieces; they both work. Once the cardboard is covered in foil and dry, you can paint it.
It works to use a brush or smear the paint on with a paper towel. I like to add a lot of paint and then rub it off in some spots but not in others. When you’re happy with your painting, you can build a frame for it, like the one I made from popsicle sticks.
If you missed any of this, don’t worry—it’s all at artzooka.com!
Are you ready to do one of my favorite art projects with me? We just need rocks—yep, just rocks—and a little imagination! Stacking one on top of the other is a super achievement, and stacking four is pure magic! You can use really big rocks to make a giant rock sculpture in your backyard or smaller ones for inside your house.
This might sound funny, but you’re actually doing something very artistic! Look at the shapes of the rocks and how they mix and match with each other. It’s also scientific because it’s all about gravity and figuring out how to balance them.
Keep trying until you get the right balance, and when you do, you’ve got yourself a one-of-a-kind rock sculpture creation! I’d love to see your rock sculpture—send me a picture to the Uka website!
Now, for my art challenge, I challenge myself to make something out of a plastic bottle and a box of paints. I put them in a movie starring a paper bag. Come and see what I made!
Did you like the movie? I made a circus truck out of a plastic bottle and a box of paints! Did you spot the hair clip? Take another look at where I put it. I challenge you to make something out of a plastic bottle and a box of paints. Be creative—anything goes! When you do, take a picture and email it to me at the Uka website, artzooka.com.
