In this lesson from Baby Einstein, children embark on an exciting adventure to explore the wonders of the sky, starting with the bright moon and a playful rhyme about it. They also learn about the different planets in our solar system, discovering their unique characteristics. The lesson encourages curiosity and continued exploration of the universe, inviting young learners to keep gazing at the stars and expanding their knowledge.
  1. What do you see when you look at the moon at night?
  2. Can you name some of the planets we learned about?
  3. What is your favorite thing to look at in the sky?

Welcome to the World of Baby Einstein!

Let’s go on a fun adventure together! We’re going to learn about some amazing things in the sky. Are you ready? Let’s start!

The Moon

Have you ever looked up at the night sky and seen the big, bright moon? It’s so shiny and round! There’s a funny rhyme about the moon:

“Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle, the cow jumped over the moon. The little dog laughed to see such a sight, and the dish ran away with the spoon.”

Isn’t that silly? Imagine a cow jumping over the moon! What a funny picture!

The Planets

Did you know there are other big, round things in the sky called planets? Let’s learn their names together:

  • Mercury
  • Venus
  • Earth (that’s where we live!)
  • Mars
  • Jupiter
  • Saturn
  • Uranus
  • Neptune
  • Pluto

Each planet is special and different. Some are really big, and some are smaller. Some are hot, and some are cold. Isn’t that cool?

Keep Exploring!

There’s so much more to learn about the sky and space. Keep looking up and wondering about all the amazing things you can see. And remember, you can always come back to learn more with Baby Einstein!

Have fun exploring, little star gazer!

  • Have you ever seen the moon at night? What do you think it would be like if a cow really could jump over the moon? Can you draw a picture of what that might look like?
  • We live on the planet Earth. If you could visit any other planet, which one would you choose and why? What do you think you might find there?
  • When you look up at the sky, what other things do you see besides the moon and planets? Have you ever wondered what they are or how they got there?
  1. Moon Phases Craft: Let’s make our own moon phases using cookies! Take some round cookies and a plastic knife. Carefully scrape off the cream to show the different phases of the moon: full moon, half moon, and crescent moon. Can you make all the phases? Try to match them to the moon you see in the sky at night!

  2. Planet Dance: Let’s pretend to be planets! Each child can choose a planet from the list and learn a fun fact about it. Then, create a dance move that represents your planet. For example, you can spin slowly like Saturn’s rings or jump high like a bouncy Mars rover. Share your dance with the class and see if they can guess which planet you are!

  3. Sky Watch Journal: Start a sky watch journal. Every night, look up at the sky and draw what you see. Is the moon full or just a sliver? Can you spot any planets? Write down the date and what you observe. Over time, you’ll see how the sky changes and learn more about the moon and planets!
