Every night, Lily reads stories to the baby about being helpful and polite. She even has a list of things she can do on her own because she’s growing up!

Draw Your Family: Grab some crayons and paper! Draw a picture of your family, including any siblings you have. If you don’t have a sibling, imagine what it would be like and draw what you think they might look like. Share your drawing with the class and talk about what you like to do with your family.
Baby Observation Walk: Take a walk with your family or friends and look for babies in your neighborhood or at the park. What are the babies doing? Are they sleeping, crawling, or maybe being pushed in a stroller? Talk about what you see and how you think Lily might help her baby sibling during a walk.
Role-Playing Game: Let’s pretend! Pair up with a friend and take turns being the big sibling and the baby. The big sibling can show the baby how to do simple things like clapping hands or playing with a toy. Switch roles and think about how Lily might feel when she helps her baby sibling learn new things.

Hi everyone! Welcome back to the Storytime Family. How are you doing today? Did you learn lots of new things at school? Have you had a long day or a fun day? Are you ready to settle down and read a book?
Today we have a book called “Being a Big Sister” by Priya Ram. Let’s have a look!
Lily likes to watch her mom’s belly. It moves and jiggles just like jelly. She’s been waiting to meet her sibling so badly. “Just wait for a few more weeks,” says Mom. The crib is ready, and there are new baby clothes, a colorful mobile, and a pair of socks for baby toes.
Lily likes to read a book for the baby every night, full of stories on how to be helpful and polite. She has made a list of tasks. “Are they all for me?” Lily asks. The list says, “Lily, you are now grown. You can learn to do things on your own.”
Lily wonders what a baby is like. “Can babies wear a helmet and ride a bike? Can babies sing or play the guitar? Can babies kick a ball and make sure not to fall?” The list says that babies are very small. First, they learn how to roll and then crawl, but they can play with us when they are tall.
The long wait is finally over! Someone special has come over. The baby has tiny eyes and a nose, hair so soft, and small toes. A baby is as cute as a kitten, and Lily is surely smitten. The baby often needs mom’s milk to drink, and Daddy helps to cook and clean up the sink.
Shining with colorful red and green lights, the monitor lets Lily know if the baby is alright. The baby wakes up and cries for milk every night, so Lily sleeps in her room, tucked in tight. When they go for a walk, Lily pushes the stroller. She says, “I’m a big sister, and I want to be stronger!”
Lily gives cuddles that are warm and cozy. It helps to calm down the baby when they are fussy. Every day, they like to spend some time together. It’s when they show their love for each other. Other times, it’s good to play and be on your own; it gives Mom and Dad some time to be alone.
Lily gets to teach and guide the little one. She shows how things are properly done. She helps with the baby in so many ways; she tries to be the best sister always. The baby is growing so fast, and the family is having a blast. There’s lots of joy and giggling, and Lily is grateful for her sibling.
