Hello, friends! Welcome to Circle Time. I’m Caroline from the Khan Academy Kids team, and I’m here with my friend Sophie. How are you all feeling today? Some of you might be happy, excited, or even a bit frustrated. No matter how you’re feeling, we’re thrilled you’re here with us!
Today, we’re starting with a fun song. Our friend Caitie from Case’s Classroom and Super Simple Songs is here to sing with us. The song is about a dog named Bingo. Bingo is spelled B-I-N-G-O. Let’s sing together!
♪ There was a farmer who had a dog, and Bingo was his name-o ♪
♪ B-I-N-G-O, B-I-N-G-O, B-I-N-G-O ♪
♪ And Bingo was his name-o ♪
Now, let’s clap for each letter in Bingo’s name. First, clap for the letter B, then for I, N, G, and O. Great job clapping and spelling, everyone!
After our song, we talked about dogs, especially beagles. Beagles are small, energetic dogs with a great sense of smell. They have short legs and floppy ears that help them sniff out scents. Beagles come in two sizes and have a history of being hunting dogs. Today, they are also family pets and can work at airports to sniff out illegal items. Beagles are known for being noisy because they bark to communicate.
Next, it’s time to get moving with Coach Kelli. Exercise is important because it makes us stronger and helps our brains work better. Today, we’re doing exercises to the Bingo song. We’ll do up-down jumps, squats with a water bottle, and hop on one foot. Remember to stay hydrated, especially when it’s hot outside!
Some of our friends sent us pictures of instruments they drew. We saw a colorful drum and a didgeridoo, which is an instrument from Australia. We also received a drawing of Sandy the dingo going camping. Thank you to everyone who shared their artwork with us!
It’s time to say goodbye, but thank you for joining us today. We had so much fun singing, learning about beagles, exercising, and seeing your amazing drawings. We can’t wait to see you again next time. Goodbye from Caroline, Sophie, and the Khan Academy Kids team!
Beagle Detective: Go on a scent adventure like a beagle! Ask an adult to hide a few objects with distinct smells around your home or garden, such as an orange peel, a cinnamon stick, or a piece of chocolate. Use your nose to find them, just like a beagle would. After you find each item, describe its smell and where you found it. How do you think beagles use their sense of smell to help people?
Bingo Rhythm Game: Create your own rhythm using the Bingo song. Clap your hands, stomp your feet, or use a simple instrument like a homemade drum (a pot and spoon will do!). Try to match the rhythm of the Bingo song. Can you create a new rhythm for each letter of Bingo’s name? Share your rhythm with a friend or family member and see if they can guess which part of the song it matches.
Draw Your Own Beagle Adventure: Imagine you have a beagle as a pet. Draw a picture of an adventure you would go on together. Would you explore a park, go on a treasure hunt, or visit a new place? Think about what your beagle might smell or see on this adventure. Share your drawing with someone and tell them about your beagle’s special skills.
