The Story of Chess

Once upon a time, in a land far away called India, there was a wise ruler known as Raja. He was worried about a battle that was coming soon. One evening, while sitting in his garden, Raja noticed his advisor, the vizier, playing with some interesting pieces on a board.

Raja asked, “What are these colorful pieces? Are they part of a new game?”

The vizier replied, “This is a special game, master. It’s not just for fun; it helps you plan and win battles. If you play with a clear mind and good intentions, your army will be unbeatable.”

Raja was curious, “Will it always be like this?”

The vizier nodded, “Yes, master. This game is called chess. It combines science, art, and sports. Anyone who learns it well becomes very powerful.”

  • Have you ever played a game that helps you think and plan, like chess? What was it, and what did you enjoy about it?
  • Chess is described as a mix of science, art, and sports. Can you think of something else that combines different things like that? How do you think they are similar?
  • If you could create your own game, what would it be like? Would it have special pieces or rules like chess? Share your ideas!
  1. Chess Piece Hunt: Create your own chess pieces using everyday items like bottle caps, buttons, or small toys. Once you’ve made your pieces, set up a mini chessboard using a piece of paper or cardboard. Try to remember where each piece goes and what moves they can make. This will help you understand the game better and make it more fun!

  2. Chess Story Time: Imagine you are Raja from the story. Write a short story or draw a comic strip about how you learned to play chess and used it to win a battle. Share your story with your family or friends and see if they can come up with their own chess adventures!

  3. Chess in Everyday Life: Look around your home or school and find patterns or situations that remind you of chess. For example, can you spot a checkerboard pattern on the floor or a strategic game like chess in a sport you play? Discuss with a friend or family member how planning and strategy are important in these situations, just like in chess.

This story happened so long ago that no one can remember the year. In those old days, India was often attacked by enemies. One evening, the ruler of the country, called Raja, was sitting in the garden with his vizier. Raja was thinking about an upcoming battle.

“What are these amazing figures? Why are they of different colors? Why have they formed ranks? Have you come up with a new pastime, vizier?”

“It’s a fascinating game, master, but it’s not just fun. It will teach you how to map plans, win battles, and perform heroic deeds. Just remember that your intentions must be pure and your thoughts must be sharp. This way, your army will become impregnable.”

“Will it always be like this?”

“It will always be like this, master. We’ll call this game chess. It combines the power of science, art, and sports. The one who masters it becomes invincible.”

Chess seems to be an amazing game. Is everything the wise vizier told us really true? People have been playing chess for more than a thousand years, and yet they are not tired of it, so it must be true. We should check everything ourselves. Kids Academy has a chess class; let’s go there!
