Chicka Chicka 1 2 3: A Fun Number Adventure!

Let’s Climb the Apple Tree!

One day, the numbers wanted to have some fun. Number one told number two, and number two told number three, “Let’s race to the top of the apple tree!” They were so excited to climb up high!

Number four told five and six to join in the fun. They were bright little numbers, ready to climb. Number seven shouted to number eight, “Hurry up, slowpoke!” because eight was always a little late.

More Numbers Join the Fun!

Then came number nine, ready to climb the apple tree. Next were ten and eleven, and they thought the apples tasted yummy, like a treat from heaven!

Number twelve was hot pink, and thirteen was lucky. They picked apples that were red and green. Fourteen and fifteen wanted to climb too. They all wanted to be part of the apple tree crew!

Will There Be a Place for Me?

Numbers sixteen and seventeen climbed up next, followed by eighteen, nineteen, and then twenty. There were so many numbers, it was getting plenty crowded!

Numbers thirty and forty climbed up to join the party. Fifty and sixty were having a dandy time, and seventy had long, sandy hair. They all wondered, “Will there be a place for me?”

Higher and Higher!

Number eighty said, “Let’s climb even more!” So they went higher and higher, all the way to ninety. Finally, ninety-nine was at the top, and all the numbers felt fine. But poor zero was sad and began to cry, “Will there be a place for me?”

Oh No, Bumblebees!

Suddenly, bumblebees buzzed close! Zero hid behind the tree. The bees shouted, “Get out of our tree!” and all the numbers tumbled down. Ninety, eighty, and seventy fell to the ground in a big jumble.

Numbers on the Run!

Sixty, fifty, and forty ran away. No more climbing, no more play. Thirty, twenty, and the rest followed, feeling a bit hollow.

Nineteen, eighteen, and seventeen jumped and flew. Sixteen, fifteen, and fourteen hit the floor too. Thirteen was unlucky, and twelve almost touched the sky. Eleven was bent, and ten was nowhere to be seen.

Zero Finds His Place!

But wait! Zero was brave and leaped into the sky. He wasn’t shy anymore. He landed on top of the tree and joined with ten to make one hundred!

All the numbers cheered, “Chicka Chicka 1 2 3, zero’s the hero of the number tree!”

Let’s Celebrate!

All the numbers came back out, climbing higher and higher as they shouted with joy. They were so happy to be together again, with zero leading the way!

  • What do you think it would be like to climb an apple tree with all the numbers? Have you ever climbed a tree or something tall? How did it feel?
  • Why do you think zero felt sad at first, and how did he become the hero at the end? Can you think of a time when you felt left out but then found a way to join in?
  • If you could be any number climbing the tree, which one would you choose and why? What special things do you think that number could do?
  1. Number Hunt: Go on a number hunt around your home or classroom! Look for numbers on clocks, books, or even in the kitchen. Can you find numbers 1 to 10? How about 11 to 20? Write them down as you find them and see if you can spot any patterns or sequences. Discuss with a friend or family member where you found each number and what it was used for.

  2. Apple Tree Counting Game: Create your own apple tree using paper and crayons. Draw a tree and cut out small paper apples. Write numbers from 1 to 20 on the apples. As you place each apple on the tree, say the number out loud. Can you arrange the apples in order from 1 to 20? Try counting backward from 20 to 1 as you remove the apples from the tree.

  3. Zero the Hero Storytime: Gather around and listen to a story about Zero the Hero. Discuss why zero is important and how it can change numbers. For example, what happens when zero joins with ten to make one hundred? Draw a picture of Zero being a hero and share your drawing with the class. Talk about how Zero helped all the numbers in the story.
