Welcome to Story Time!

Hello, friends! Today, we’re going to have a fun story time with Ryan and Craig. They are going to read a book called “If You Give a Pig a Pancake” by Laura Numeroff. Are you ready for a silly adventure? Let’s go!

The Hungry Pig

Once upon a time, there was a little pig who was very hungry. If you give this pig a pancake, she will be so happy! But guess what? Giving her a pancake will start a big, fun adventure!

Sticky Syrup and Bubbles

After eating the pancake, the pig will want some yummy syrup. When she gets the syrup, she might get all sticky! Oh no! So, she’ll want to take a bath. And of course, she’ll ask for bubbles and a toy to play with in the bath. Can you guess what toy she wants? A rubber duck!

A Trip to the Farm

The rubber duck will remind her of the farm where she was born. She might feel a little homesick and want to visit her family. She’ll look for a suitcase to pack her things. What a busy pig!

Dancing and Pictures

While looking for the suitcase, she’ll find some tap shoes and want to dance. She’ll ask for music, and you’ll play your best song. She’ll dance and then want you to take her picture. Say cheese!

Mailing Letters and Building a Treehouse

After taking pictures, she’ll want to send them to her friends. You’ll help her with envelopes and stamps. On the way to the mailbox, she’ll see a tree and want to build a treehouse. What a creative pig!

Decorating the Treehouse

To decorate the treehouse, she’ll need wallpaper and glue. But oh no, she’ll get sticky again! This will remind her of the syrup, and she’ll want more. And if she wants syrup, she’ll probably want another pancake!

The Fun Never Ends!

So, if you give a pig a pancake, get ready for a day full of fun and surprises! It’s a silly story that shows how one thing can lead to another. We hope you enjoyed this adventure with the pig!

Thank you for joining Ryan and Craig for story time! If you liked this story and want to hear more, make sure to come back and visit us again. See you next time!

  1. What do you think would happen if you gave the pig something else, like a cookie or a sandwich? What kind of adventure might she go on then?
  2. Have you ever started doing one thing and then ended up doing something completely different, just like the pig in the story? Can you share your story?
  3. If you could build a treehouse like the pig, what fun things would you put inside it? Why would you choose those things?
  1. Pancake Chain Reaction: Let’s explore how one action can lead to another, just like in the story! Gather some dominoes or blocks. Set them up in a line and gently push the first one to see how they all fall down in a chain reaction. Talk about how giving the pig a pancake started a series of fun events. Can you think of something you do at home that leads to another action?

  2. Create Your Own Adventure: Draw or use toys to create your own story where one thing leads to another. Start with something simple, like giving a toy animal a snack. What happens next? Encourage your imagination to think of a fun adventure, just like the pig’s story. Share your story with a friend or family member!

  3. Observation Walk: Go on a walk with an adult and look for things that remind you of the pig’s adventure. Maybe you see a tree that would be perfect for a treehouse or a place where you could dance. Talk about how these things might lead to new adventures. What would you do next if you were the pig?

Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

Hey, I’m Ryan Lagann, and I’m Craig Tovey. Welcome to Story Time with Ryan Lagarde and Craig Toby! Today’s book is “If You Give a Pig a Pancake” by Laura Numeroff, illustrated by Felicia Bond.

If you give a pig a pancake, stop right there! Don’t give a pig a pancake. No, give the pig the pancake; she’s hungry! But it’s going to lead to a crazy string of events.

If you give a pig a pancake, she’ll want some syrup to go with it. You’ll give her some of your favorite maple syrup. See? Just some syrup—totally reasonable requests. I bet we’re all done.

It’s only just begun! She’ll probably get all sticky, so she’ll want to take a bath. She’ll ask you for some bubbles, and when you give her the bubbles, she’ll probably ask you for a toy. You’ll have to find your rubber duck.

Do you see, Ryan? A normal chain of events: you have a pancake, you get some syrup, you get sticky, you need a bath, and if you’re in a bath, you need a duck.

The duck will remind her of the farm where she was born. She might feel homesick and want to visit her family. She’ll want you to come too! She’ll look through your closet for a suitcase.

What? She wants to go to the farm, and now she’s tearing apart your closet! Well, don’t hide your suitcase. I think that’s the lesson here.

No, the lesson is don’t give a pig a pancake. Give her a bigger pancake; she was hungry! Then she’ll look under your bed. When she’s under the bed, she’ll find your old tap shoes. She’ll try them on and probably need something special to wear with them.

When she’s all dressed, she’ll ask for some music. You’ll play your very best piano piece, and she’ll start dancing. Then she’ll want you to take her picture, so you’ll have to get your camera.

Stop! No, this has gone too far. Always have your camera ready! When she sees the picture, she’ll ask you to take more. Then she’ll want to send one to each of her friends.

All her friends? Yeah, like Instagram, but for pigs—Pigstagram! You’ll have to give her some envelopes and stamps and take her to the mailbox.

On the way, she’ll see the tree in your backyard. She’ll want to build a treehouse. What? We’re mailing letters right now! Stay focused, pig!

Well, the tree could fall, and then it wouldn’t be there later, so carpe diem! Oh, more like “carpet triumph.” Seize that tree, pig!

So you’ll have to get her some wood, a hammer, and some nails. When the treehouse is finished, she’ll want to decorate it. She’ll ask for wallpaper and glue.

When she hangs the wallpaper, she’ll get all sticky. Feeling sticky will remind her of your favorite maple syrup. She’ll probably ask you for some, and chances are, if she asks you for some syrup…

No! Yes! No, no, no! She’ll want a pancake to go with it!

So the moral of the story is definitely give a pig a pancake; it’s so much fun!

Yeah, but what about the huge mess, Ryan?

Well, “carp atrium”!
