Story Time with Ryan and Craig

Hi there! I’m Ryan, and this is my friend Craig. Welcome to Story Time with us! We love reading stories, and today we have a special book to share with you. It’s called “I’m Always Your Dad” by John Hindman, with pictures by Kim Kimbrough. Let’s dive into the story!

Little Bear and Dad

In the story, there’s a little bear and his dad. Even if they can’t be together all the time, the dad wants the little bear to know that he will always be his dad, no matter what!

Always Together in Heart

Little Bear’s dad tells him that even when he’s busy talking to other bears or when Little Bear is doing something else, he is still his dad. They share lots of fun memories, like riding bikes and going on adventures together.

Being Proud and Listening

Dad is proud of Little Bear, especially when he learns new things. He also listens whenever Little Bear has something important to say, even if it’s hard to talk about.

Waiting and Helping

Sometimes, Little Bear has to wait for his dad, but that’s okay because Dad is always on his way. Even when Little Bear tries to help and isn’t perfect yet, Dad is there to support him.

Far Away but Close

Even when Dad is far away, Little Bear knows that they can still share special moments, like watching their favorite movie. Dad loves being Little Bear’s dad and having fun together!

Goodnight, Little Bear

At the end of the day, Dad tells Little Bear he loves him before he goes to sleep. It’s a sweet reminder that no matter what, Dad will always be there for Little Bear.

We hope you enjoyed the story! Remember, you can always share your thoughts with us. Have a wonderful day!

  1. Can you think of a special memory you have with someone in your family, like Little Bear has with his dad? What made it special for you?
  2. Little Bear’s dad is proud when Little Bear learns new things. What is something new you have learned recently, and who helped you learn it?
  3. Even when Little Bear’s dad is far away, they find ways to feel close. How do you stay connected with family or friends who live far away?
  1. Memory Sharing: Think about a special memory you have with someone you love, just like Little Bear and his dad. Draw a picture of that memory and share it with the class. What made that moment special? How did it make you feel?

  2. Heart Connection Craft: Create a “Heart Connection” craft. Cut out two heart shapes from colored paper. On one heart, write or draw something you love doing with your family. On the other heart, write or draw something you would like to do together. Connect the hearts with a piece of string or yarn to show that even when you’re apart, you’re still connected by love.

  3. Listening and Sharing Circle: Sit in a circle with your classmates. Take turns sharing something you learned recently that made you proud, just like Little Bear’s dad was proud of him. Practice listening carefully to each other, and remember to clap or cheer for your friends when they share!

I have something to say, Ryan.

Hi, Dad!

Today’s book is “I’m Always Your Dad” by John Hindman, with illustrations by Kim Kimbrough. Let’s get started!

“I’m Always Your Dad” by John Hindman, illustrations by Kim Kimbrough.

Little Bear, I might not see you tomorrow, but just remember, together or apart, you are always my little bear, and I am always your dad. Always!

That’s right! No matter where we go, no matter what we do, even when you’re talking on the phone and I can’t find something quiet to do.

Yes, I love talking to you, but sometimes I have to talk to other bears.

Okay, I see what you’re trying to do. We will not get emotional about our dads, and that’s a guarantee!

Yeah, I’m not going to start talking about how my dad used to put me on the front of his motorcycle for rides around the neighborhood. I loved it! And I’m not going to talk about this cool picture of me and my dad in our little helmets when he first taught me to ride a bike.

Because that would be… oh, really?

Yeah, I’m stretching it. I miss my dad a little bit.

Nice try! It’s not going to happen. Take that sob story somewhere else!

Are you my dad even when I don’t like the strange cheese you like?

It’s called Manchego, and yes, I’m your dad no matter what cheese you like.

Even when we are waiting in line at the place with the long lines where I get too fidgety?

Yes, even then. And thank you for waiting with me.

Even when you tell me to stop doing that thing with my feet on the back of your seat?

You mean when you’re doing the most annoying thing ever?

Yes, I am still your dad.

Okay, we see what you’re doing, book. Nice try! You’re not going to get me just because you know that my earliest childhood memory is standing on the bench seat of my dad’s pickup truck and playing around while he worked on it. Good try!

Okay, he’s not going to get emotional. Good luck, book, because you probably know that when my dad’s car flooded, he made me sit in the back seat in the flooded part and let my friend sit up front because he treated everyone like they’re his son.

Sounds like a really good memory!

Even when I’m getting good at something and I don’t need your help anymore, I am always your dad, and I am so proud of you!

Yeah, good!

How about when I have something I want to tell you, but it’s hard to say, so I can’t right now?

I know what that’s like, and yes, I’m your dad, and I’ll listen to you whenever you are ready.

Okay, how about when the other bears pick up their cubs and you’re late, and I’m waiting, and it makes me feel funny inside?

Don’t worry, little bear. I am always your dad, and I am always on my way.

Are you my dad even when I’m trying to help and I’m not good at it yet?

Of course I am! Everything takes practice and patience.

Even when you’re upset with me because you know why?

Yes, I…

What did you do?

There we go! That’s what I’m talking about. Yes, little tough love! That’s not very fun, is it?

Yeah, I’m not going to get emotional over getting in trouble with my dad, am I?

Nope, not me! Although, it kind of made me the man I am today. He taught me a lesson.

Dude, I’m still learning today.

Oh, me? Huh, it didn’t work. Let’s just take deep breaths.

You okay?

Um, yeah.

Book, a couple of tough guys who don’t miss their dads.

Even when you’re so far away I have to look at a map to see you?

Yes, and I can’t wait for us to go places together!

What about the times when I’m watching a movie we like, but you aren’t here to watch it with me?

I’m always your dad, and it will always be our movie.

Even when I’m playing and being super awesome and having so much fun, I like that you’re so much fun that I’m not even thinking about you.

Of course I am! I love being the dad of an awesome, fun bear.

In all those times and all the times to come, I am your dad, and I always will be.

Night night, little bear. I love you.

He told him all that before he went to sleep.

Did you do that every night?

I’ll let you in on a secret.

Ah, you got this book! Nobody got me the fan. It’s not working.

Feels good to cry.

Yeah, you know who taught me that it was good to cry?

Don’t say it!
