Today’s Story: “Rainbow Fish and the Big Blue Whale”

Today, we’re reading a fun book called “Rainbow Fish and the Big Blue Whale” by Marcus Pfister. Let’s dive into the story!

Swimming in the Sea

Far away in the deep blue sea, Rainbow Fish and his friends were having a great time swimming around. They all had shiny, silver scales that sparkled in the water. Well, all except one little striped fish, but he was still part of the group!

When they got hungry, they ate tiny little creatures called krill. There were so many krill that Rainbow Fish just had to swim with his mouth open to catch them. Life was wonderful!

A New Friend Arrives

One day, a big, gentle whale swam by and decided to stay near the reef. He liked the krill too and thought the shiny fish were beautiful. But one fish with jagged fins noticed the whale watching them and got worried.

“Why is he looking at us like that?” he asked. Soon, all the fish started to feel nervous about the whale.

Worries and Fears

Rainbow Fish began to worry too. What if the whale ate all the krill? Why did he keep staring at them?

One day, the whale swam close to the fish. The jagged-finned fish got scared and shouted, “Look out!”

The whale felt hurt and then angry. He swam into the middle of the fish and splashed them with his big tail. The fish got scared and swam away to hide in a cave.

Making Peace

After a while, the whale calmed down and swam away. The fish were hungry and came out of the cave, but the krill were gone.

“This is silly,” said Rainbow Fish. “We used to have fun, but now we’re scared. We need to make friends with the whale.”

Rainbow Fish was brave and went to talk to the whale. “Please, let’s talk,” he said. “We made a mistake, and now we’re all hungry.”

The whale told Rainbow Fish that he was hurt by their words. “I never wanted to hurt you,” said the whale. “I just wanted to scare you a little.”

Rainbow Fish felt sorry. “I’m sorry,” he said. “We were scared you might eat us.”

The whale was surprised. “I watched you because your scales are so pretty,” he said. They both laughed and became friends.

New Adventures

With their new friend, the big blue whale, Rainbow Fish and his friends swam off to find a new home full of krill. Soon, they forgot all about the fight and were happy again.

“Rainbow Fish and the Big Blue Whale” by Marcus Pfister.

A long way out in the deep blue sea, Rainbow Fish and his friends swam happily through the reef. Each of them had a glittering silver scale, except for one little striped fish, but he belonged to the group anyway. When the fish were hungry, they ate tiny krill, which seemed to be in endless supply. Rainbow Fish only needed to glide gently through the water with his mouth open to catch as many as he wanted. It was a wonderful life!

One day, a gentle old whale swam by the reef and decided to stay. He liked the spot since he too enjoyed the plentiful krill and admired the beautiful, glittering fish. Before long, the fish with the jagged fins noticed the whale watching them.

“Why is he looking at us like that?” he asked the others. He was in a particularly bad mood that day. “Who knows what he’s thinking?” After that, all the fish grew more and more suspicious of the whale.

Rainbow Fish began to worry. Until now, the fish had always been able to eat their fill. What if the whale did eat up all the krill? Why did he keep staring at them?

One day, the whale swam quite near the school of glittering fish. Panicked, the fish with the jagged fins sounded the alarm. “Look out!” he called.

When the whale heard that, he was hurt at first, but soon he grew very angry. All too soon, the great blue whale shot into the middle of the school and lashed out with his gigantic tail, sweeping the sparkling fish in all directions.

The terrified fish fled, racing towards a crack in the reef for safety, but the whale followed them all the way back to their cave. The blue whale swam back and forth, casting glances at the little fish. They were trapped.

After a while, the whale calmed down and made one last pass before disappearing behind the reef. Nervous but driven by hunger, the fish cautiously left their cave in search of food. But the battle with the whale had left its mark; all the krill had been driven off.

“This is silly,” declared Rainbow Fish. “Before, we played happily in the sea. Now we hide in terror in our cave. We must make peace with the whale.”

The other fish were too afraid to approach the whale, so it was up to Rainbow Fish. The whale stared at Rainbow Fish suspiciously.

“Please, let’s talk,” said Rainbow Fish. “This fight was a big mistake. It drove off the krill, and now we’re all hungry.”

The two talked for a long time. The whale told Rainbow Fish how hurt and angry their hostile words had made him. “I never meant to harm you,” said the whale. “Just scare you a little.”

Rainbow Fish was ashamed. “I’m sorry,” he said. “But when we saw you watching us all the time, we were afraid you might eat us.”

The whale looked surprised. “I watched you only because your shining scales are so pretty,” he said. They both laughed.

“Now, let’s find new hunting grounds,” said Rainbow Fish.

Protected by their new friend, the big blue whale, they swam off together in search of a new home rich with krill. Before long, none of them could remember what the terrible fight had been about.
